Unikitty! (2017)
Puppycorn is a travesty
Unikitty is an animated TV series about the titular character Unikitty who is a unicorn, cat, or whatever thing that runs a monarchy. As ruler, she makes sure everyone is in a pleasant mood. Her companions include her brother and some doctor. Her foil is Mr. Frown who does the opposite of what she does.
As for the series itself, the graphics are well-colored, the music is okay, and the humor is adequate I guess. But if there's anything that puts me totally off, it's that unicorn/pooch fella Puppycorn. Yeah he's sorta cute but his speaking ain't genuine. Instead of picking a wannabee guy, I wish they pick a boy.
Sonic Boom (2014)
Give The Little Brown Guy Back To The Lads!
When I learned that it was possible to play Tails alone in the second Sonic the Hedgehog game for the Sega Genesis, it was there that I develop a strong liking for the character. Although I still adore Tails as one of my favorite Sonic characters, I can't say that I appreciate how he is presented in later games and media.
From the 1990s to early 2000s, things were done with respect to tradition. It was during that period when Tails' speaking role was done by young boys. That's the way it should be because Tails is in fact a boy.
But as we go some time past the year 2000, that good tradition was gone. It died when trollops took over being the voice of the fox in those later games and TV series (including this one). It has been that way ever since. Whose idea was it to use trollops? That's not how it suppose to be.
I certainly wish they bring back the good old tradition, and use boys to be Tails' voice again. It's more complimentary to the character that way.
Conker: Live and Reloaded (2005)
A Once Nice Character Forever Corrupted
When it comes to making video games, which is more important? To silence hecklers or to make large revenue? Rare turned the once nice Conker into an insane freak just to silence those who said Twelve Tales: Conker 64 was too kiddish. Well that move was something Rare would regret for a long time. That explains why Nintendo broke ties with Rare. The new corrupted Conker may have won some praise but the character's games were lousy sellers.
So Rare dislikes cutesy Nintendo characters. What's wrong with cutesy characters? Don't they understand that cutesy characters are very marketable? I don't know what unreasonable things they have in mind. But unless they want their characters to stay obscure forever, they should change things back.
SegaSonic the Hedgehog (1993)
Why Ray Got Retired
While I been knowing Sonic and Tails for a long time, I never knew about Ray. This was until I saw an online game featuring him. The game is actually the first Sonic the Hedgehog that was altered by some computer geniuses. After seeing a few screen-shots, I looked into sites like Wikipedia and YouTube to know more about this obscure character. It was there I found out that he appeared in SegaSonic the Hedgehog, an arcade game that never made it to home consoles.
Why was Ray retired after making his sole appearance in this game? People can come up with a theory or another. Firstly, SegaSonic the Hedgehog is one of the first Sonic games where the characters speak. As for Ray, despite showing some considerable cuteness, he was played by a drag king, whereas the other characters are played by the right people. I guessed that might have disappointed a lot of male gamers.
Thankfully, Ray is making a comeback because there are a lot dedicated fans who seem to be interested in him. He then appeared in comic books based on the games. If the game developers decide to put him in a new Sonic game, it will be his first game appearance in more than two decades.
Julius Jr. (2013)
Cute Character But Far From Excellent
In this show we have a little ape who is somewhat cute as well as possessing the knowledge to build devices. Things of the series were just about perfect until I briefly read on some sources about what's behind it.
Is Julius a boy or a girl? One may think the monkey is a boy because he has boy's name. However, I do read something fishy on what's behind his mouth. Whatever it is, it's one way to disregard the skill of young guys who aren't too difficult to obtain. Whoever is in charge of making the stories should pick the right people for some things and not just someone whom their hearts beat for.
Show is cute and colorful but I can't consider it great.
Seeing Stars (1932)
One Way To Spice Up A Cartoon
As with a number of cartoons of its time, "Seeing Stars" shows caricatures of celebrities. Featuring famous persons is certainly one of many ways to get a big score for a cartoon. But even if they do, some animated films would only have short-lived popularity and they would fade into obscurity. The most entertaining scene in this short is when Krazy tries to pick a fruit from a bowl but ends up holding the waiter's long nose by mistake. In response to the inconvenience, the waiter speaks to Krazy in an eerie manner (I find this both scary and comical) before splashing the spaghetti platter on the cat. No need to worry because someone else there helped Krazy get clean. How it concludes was a happy ending for everybody.
