Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (2023)
Pure Genius
This is legit pure genius. I was a huge fan of the movie so I didn't know what to expect coming into it so I was partially nervous and partially excited. I can say this is NOT what I expected at all, but it is just as hilarious and incredible in its' own way. The voices being the same does make it even extra amazing, but that's just an added bonus. I love it and will for sure watch it over and over again, just like the movie. Rarely do I like remakes, sequels, or reboots, but this is beyond fantastic. Whether I look forward to something or not, typically it never lives up to expectation one way or the other but this somehow managed to exceed everything I could have possibly hoped for.
Shrinking (2023)
BIll Lawrence does it AGAIN
While I also appreciate the brilliance of Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, I can't help but point out the genius that is Bill Lawrence. His ability to perfectly combine drama and comedy while also making such relatable characters in real life situations is something I've never seen anyone else be able to come close to, let alone do it time and time again. From Spin City to Scrubs to Cougar Town to Ted Lasso, and now to this gem, he has had a hand in making me go from laughing out loud to ugly crying in just the span of minutes going on several decades now. And I can't help but think It all leading to Shrinking is very fitting considering his work has played a large part in helping me mentally and emotionally so many times while laying on a couch.
Velma (2023)
If these were original characters it would be a hit
The writing of this show and it's characters is at a level of the most popular animated shows if not even better. The amount of laugh out loud jokes per minute is extremely impressive. The problem seems to 100% be the choice to make this a version of characters from Scooby-Doo. This show could have easily been a hit with original characters. I understand all the negative reviews to an extent, but it's pretty immature and unreasonable to throw a fit over diversity changes. That being said I truly don't see the point in choosing to that over just creating a series with fun new diverse characters. If this show does get cancelled I really hope this same team of people work together on a new show.
