Alpha House (2013)
ALL reviews I read were that person's politics
I must have read 15-20 reviews before I stopped. People that liked it said it was brilliant and lauded it with words of that nature clearly showing that they stand on the left because this was absolutely NOT brilliant. It was mildly entertaining but rating or ranking it as anything other then simply passable is not a reflection of the quality of entertainment that came out of this. It was good enough to watch all the way through, which does mean it wasn't terrible. Then you have the people that rated it at the bottom of the barrel. Now unlike the people on the left, these people seemed to be very up front about their political stances because their reasoning for rating it so low was because they felt that this was a completely inaccurate and unfair characterization of the Republican Party which could only have been done by the lett. I found their reasoning, more entertaining than I did the show at times, considering, this is a work of FICTION that is meant to be comedically entertaining and not somebody's political manifesto. I guess the reviews unfortunately seem to accurately reflect the culture of our society at the moment, which is really quite sad because we seem to be at a place where NOBODY can take a joke anymore and even less people have a SENSE OF HUMOR. Which I find quite ironic, considering if you look at it, the political arena that we are currently living with, the reality of what's going on there, the people who are inhabiting it, their specific actions, stances, and ways of representing and articulating themselves, then you shouldn't be able to help but to be comedically entertained by those REALITIES.
Fast Charlie (2023)
The good reviews are lying
I dont know the process of how films are able to get masses of not authentic reviews but it would seem that whatever the process is, the people who put this film out succeeded in having that done here. There was nothing compelling about any of this movie. Character development was nonexistent. The plot seems to not have a lot of energy or thought put into it and it. And it felt like whoever wrote this mess just felt like they could have things happen, and as a result, the audience would experience it as if these things happening had some kind of connection but that doesn't happen, unless you build the story in a way, so common sense, and, the stuff you built the story with makes sense. There are only a few bad reviews for this film, but all of them basically say the same thing, but I had to watch this whole mess and waste that time to understand that those bad reviews were completely accurate, but it was just astounding, because of how many positive reviews this got. The only conclusion I could draw was that somebody paid or arranged in someway for those positive reviews to be there because they are not deserved in any way.
The Tower (2021)
It's truly sad what the entertainment industry has devolved into at this point
Mosta the tv & films that've been made recently has been awful & basically pandering in its purest form. To who exactly it is pandering to? That's a whole Other can of rotten worms that speaks very poorly to where the human race is headed and currently marinating in. Creating "art" only thru checking off boxes 4 diversity, nonsense political rhetoric, very overtly stating its "message" by literally saying it Word for Word, & much more bs thats not even worthy of being articulated. Most of which simply adds up to a complete lack of respect for the audience on any type of genuine level. This show very astutely goose-steps along in perfect unison to that particular ethos. As a whole the fact that stuff like this has the nerve to be masqueraded as entertainment & then presented to us as a show or a film is offensive and shameful that as a society or a culture, this is where we are currently at. Maybe A. I.'s inevitable rise, and dominance here on earth is truly the rightful next step because if judging by this or anything that is created within this same type of dynamic, we simply do not deserve to inherit and rule over the next epoch of "life" here on this beautiful, blue marble spinning around in the vacuume of this universe. Come on now...BE & DO BETTER!!! Or PLEASE JUST DONT EVEN BOTHER!!!
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
The writers just gave up
I have to say the show was one of my favorites as it was coming out. It was very well written, produced, acted, and every other thing it could be was done well. And then the second half of this last season comes along and it seemed there was like a carbon monoxide leak in the writers room and that's why we got this ending we got. There was A lot of filler in this last season. Probably because they did 14 episodes instead of their usual 10 or eight or whatever. They could've done it in 10 and it probably would've been a lot better because they wouldn't have just been making people do things for no reason that are completely out of character. It's really upsetting though because this was a great show. The writers That were responsible for this last season though, they should really be embarrassed about this and that it has their name on it. I have a lot more negative things to say about this season and the writers abysmal performance but if you're reading this then I think you get the point already. I get really offended it bad writing when I'm watching shows that have been made and somehow okayed by a whole bunch of people before it got to me And sadly the writers responsible for this season have made me categorize the quality of this show in that offensive grouping which also includes unneeded sequels, studios interfering with artistic vision based on fads and "data", and generally things that are like cash grabs and that essentially make it very clear that they do not have respect or appreciation for the audience. Very unremarkable ending to what WAS a great show. Key word being WAS!!
The Walking Dead: Rogue Element (2022)
This show is a sad victim of Collateral damage
It's Seems this and many other shows have been utterly ruined or at least significantly handicapped as a result of either talentless writer's or, and this is more so What I feel the culprit is, that the writers under pressure from their studios or maybe even more so perceived pressure or fear maybe, of not including all races, orientations, creeds, and any other boxes that can be checked when it comes to Being diverse or socially "aware" or another buzzword that's become very popular and apparently "very significant" as of current, culturally that is...being or demonstrating values that align with one being woke. With this whole commonwealth situation that they are not going to be setting the rest of this season to some degree, you know the writers are up in arms so they can get up in their soapboxes so they can show the world how aware they are of social issues and how they are showing the world that they're fighting on "the good side" Bc they're taking their show and making the showcasing of said issues more often then not, what the show becomes about. Now I've digressed a lot here and some of this goes for the walking dead but it's more directed towards the majority of things I've been seeing as of late on the n in film. I apologize for the digression though.
But about the walking dead. Has anyone else noticed in a couple episodes so far this season that the zombies have become a lot more viscous. Their overall power and strength seems to have increased some and their overall speed and aggression has also picked up to such a degree that they've been reminding me of the zombies in 28 days later. Now I know those Zs are on a significantly different level when it comes to speed and aggression, however, this season has altered this aspect of the movements and I guess you could call it temperament of TWDs zombies & it's kind of a huge plot hole or problem with continuity or idk what you would call it, but if throughout the entire series the zombies behaved the way they've been this current season(or at least the past 4 or 5 episodes) then the story would be in a completely different place right now. Twd Zs moved very slowly. The ate people and bit people but they didn't do so like starving rabid animals and with they're same vigor. They did so in a much slower manner. There was never any rush or speed or like aggressive force behind their movements. They'd just slowly creep and eventually overrun or they'd sneak up outa nowhere. They're wouldn't be overpowering people one on one(typically) and, well, I feel like I made my point as well as I'm going to here bc I also feel as though if I haven't already been, I'm very soon just going to be rambling and repeating myself. Bottom line though, it makes me sad with what's going on in the entertainment industry atm bc they're totally ruining the quality of their overall output bc of the manner in which they're "handling" or responding to the social justice movement. I'm all for everyone being treated with love n respect by everyone else and opportunities to be something everyone should be able to get. But The way I've been seeing it come about in the entertainment business seems to be like they have a list of boxes that need to be checked off and that adhering to their new system of showing that they are on the correct side of the social justice movement, they are in fact making a mockery of it. And they're also completely compromising the art form. They're not hiring people because they would be good for the job. They're hiring people because they are of a certain different orientation, race, or anything else that makes somebody different. And I don't believe that's what this is about in the end. And it's just very disheartening because we were in a golden age of television and now that is over and honestly, I'd say that if on a regular year 100 new shows premiere, it used to be that 40 of them were good and good enough to have a second and to
be enjoyed, but This past year I'd say 20 of them probably got to a second season and out of that MAYBE 12 or actually enjoyable N I mean MAYBE. And the main reason for this is because of how they're doing the hiring and then how they're regulating the content. Because I feel like, since the quality of the content is no longer at the top of the pyramid in terms of what's the most important part of getting the show out there. It seems as this has been replaced by this new model I've been talking about. And since having those boxes charged is so important to the studios, it seems to me as if nobody even bothers to or feels like it's important to question what it is these new hires are going to do or look at the content they're trying to put out. Maybe people are scared to considering the current cancel culture state. Regardless, all I know is I haven't seen the problem get any better, all I have seen is the quality media coming out becoming very sadly more and more garbage- like.
Deep Space (2016)
There's a lot of good information in here
If you are into this kind of stuff then I believe you will enjoy this show. I felt like they did a good job in making it stay in task as being a documentary then from letting it feel like a crazy man on a soap box. This show asks and answers a lot of questions related to ufos, et intervention/cooperation, and just how much the governments or whatever you want to call it, are involved and aware of this related issues. In studying archeology and the mysteries of megaliths and their related sites found throughout the world, there seems to be some kind of conspiracy in keeping the information "known" about these things within this narrative that they've written. If things are discovered that don't fit into this particular explanation then those things are basically discarded and the people(scientists) who discover them and assert this "new information" are basically attacked by their scientific community, discredited, and very often lose whatever funding they were receiving to do their studies. In many cases these peoples careers were ended. All Bc they found something that takes ones attention and focuses it on questions that this other group goes to great lengths to keep out of view from the public eye. A lot of things like what I just spoke of are Covered within the span of this show. The particular way in which the topics of the show are related to such things as, governmental knowledge, cover ups, secret space program, ets, ancient archeology, oral and pictorial lore from people from the past, et technology & its integration into our own tech, history and myth and obvious connections, groups/organizations/cabals with no checks or controls on what they're doin that operate with impunity and are responsible for managing a lot of the interactions or lack of interactions btw this secret world of aliens n alien related affairs. The topics just keep going on but my point is that the way these things are all lates out and going through the current known history of this stuff, I felt that they did a good job of making their point and showing these connections and also exposing some of the poorly constructed excuses for things given by this shadow group.
The Many Saints of Newark (2021)
Garbage!
Such a joke. The trailers made you think it was about tony soprano coming in to his own. It was not really about that at all. Woke writers tainting a great show. Studios going for a cash grab. All at the expense of the fans/viewers. Don't waste your time if you're a fan of the show. Just do a binge rewatch of the show. That'll definitely leave you with a better taste in your mouth.
Outsiders (2016)
Such an underrated show
There is some suspension of disbelief needed but that is the nature of fictional works in most cases. That aside, this was a powerful show that sheds light on a lot of societal issues that very badly need to be addressed. And it does this not in the manner that so many shows/movies do now by checking of agenda boxes and yelling it from a soapbox but through the nature progression the story. The writing is great. The acting is also great. The entire world of this story is utterly realistic and very much engaging. I hated a lot of the characters both on and off the mountain but that's what good writing and acting will do. It draws you in and makes you feel. I don't comment on things very often but on occasion something is of a good enough quality(or bad enough) that I feel the need to let others know how I feel about them. This one was of the good enough sort. It's a shame that it only was able to have two seasons but this is another unfortunate result of the age we live in and the reality behind what motives studios to create their art. Money and being able to generate it tends to be what drives soulless executives and studios to end a lot of amazing shows way before they are done being told. Yet you have 15 seasons + of the reality garbage that pollutes the air waves and actively sends our culture further and further in to a state that we should honestly be ashamed of. This show was not of that ilk. Many layers of wonderful storytelling that does the things that tv shows at heart, are supposed to be doing at their best.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Renewal (2021)
So tired of this
I loved this show before this season. The reason I liked it was it was silly comical nonsense performed with deadpan accuracy. Farcical situations that evoked ridiculous reactions from the cast. Most of this season seems like it was made to gain Acceptance from nonsense woke world. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for everyone being treated with respect and love and moving forward in the world in way that we should have already been acting in but for some reason are not. BUT I DONT watch this show to get their thoughts on this stuff. Nor do I watch it to learn about tolerance or anything even in that universe. I watch it bc it WAS FUNNY and it used to serve as an escape from the unpleasant realities of the world for a half hour a week. Now, I get to have a very non-effective PSA once a week and a further reminder that the level of sensitivity in our culture has reached such a level that it is making people act crazy or not know how to act...both actually. But the fact remains that Nobody who watches the show does so because of the "message " it's delivering. And by trying to be one of those shows it's kind of betraying itself and it's own genuineness. So thank a lot.
Into the Badlands: Chapter XXIV: Leopard Catches Cloud (2018)
I think it's bad/lazy writing
This show had the potential to so much better then it was. There are times all throughout it where characters choices and actions are just like "c'mon man". Look at sunny this episode. He just walks around literally blind to the things going on right in front of him. He's ready to just sacrifice Bashi to these strangers over nothing. When he gives them the ability to use the machine, and he doesn't get the responses that he should have gotten he still is walking around and acting like he's not sure of the fact that he just made a huge mistake. I'm just saying, he's the lead of this show, they could have made he come off just a tad bit more intelligent and intuitive. He's like super ninja 5000 but past fighting and everything related to it, it's like he oppresses with the capability of a child. It's Just disappointing bc I feel like if the writers would have pushed themselves a tad bit more and held themselves to a higher standard this series would have been a lot more renowned. Stupid lazy useless people.
Marcella (2016)
Marcella is the most inlikable character ever!
Maybe it was a strategy of the writers or maybe now. Either way, this helped with the writing to make this feel like a bad detective soap opera. I know it's just a fictional show but anyone who has violent blackouts to the extent that she does and has apparently not even thought into it past the fact that they're occurring. It's just so unbelievable that someone's experiencing these things can also work as a high profile detective. No one stops her. She constantly breaks protocols and the law while trying to solve crimes and nothing ever comes of any of it. In fact, literally everything she does that's like illegal or wrong or in any way something that needs to be addressed just gets completely forgotten about. The writing in this show is truly bad. There are no likable characters. Most of the actions taken by most of the characters are stupid. This show is like watching a car crash, however, just like watching a car crash I continue to watch it. Anyone who comments of this show and has anything other then negative things to say are also just completely useless humans too. Our world has been drowning in the wake of selfishness and oblivious preoccupation with pretty much anything but meaningful concepts. The people who wrote this and the ones who want to praise it for any reason are also this same demographic. We'd all be better off if they simply never existed.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Zack Snyder is just not a good director
Script was pretty bad. I know it's a zombie movie but a lot of the issues I had with the writing seemed to be just simple laziness on the writers. The music was also bad. And I've noticed this in other of his movies but just songs that don't match up with the feel of what's going on. He also does this thing where he tries to make things seem much more epic by including some of his bs music during a scene that's supposed to be "deep" for lack of a better word, and stays with the scene for way longer then it worked for. That's not good storytelling. It's a step above the characters simply saying to the audience that this scene is important. Most of the actions and motivations of the characters also just didn't make sense. Also the acting of the daughter was not very good. The only cool thing about the film was the different kind of zombie situation. However, even with the zombies, they didn't all or almost any for that matter eat or try to eat people. But then in other pasty's they did. Like I said, the writing was bad. Lastly there was so much of the story that was shown in close up shots of one person while they're talking or doing something. And I feel like this was meant to be artistic but all it seemed to do for me was make me feel like there was no "world of the movie". It was distracting and made the end result feel lik not a cohesive story but and Amalgam of random things sewn together. He's just not a talented director. And the writers were all talentless or they just put as little effort as possible into this project. Whenever I get that impression from something I'm watching I honestly get offended bc I and I'm sure countless other people would kill for an opportunity to work on a movie or in that world so when I see or experience people that obviously don't respect what their doing or the audience enough to not make really stupid mistakes or to put out enough effort to not have a bowl movement equate the the movie going experience of their project, it makes me really hate those people. I got that feeling as a result of watching this movie. The different zombie dynamic is the only reason I didn't give it 1 star.
I Trapped the Devil (2019)
Do not listen to the bad reviews
I am something of a cinephile and very proud of it. I love all film and tv with just one catch, the writing has to be done well. Well, that and it has to have a good story. They're no one way to determine if these things are met though. Recently I have been going through a horror phase. I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised more then a few times. This film was one of those cases. The story was not phenomenal by any means, but it was original and I believe executed in an entertaining manner. The largest driving force in this was the atmospheric tension which was aided much by great lighting and subtle yet very effective soundtrack or composition. I'm not sure what you call the music that goes along with the film but when it's not songs. It's like the bass the helped turn jaws into a classic or the synthesizer that made Halloween. Whatever you call it, it was very subtle yet perfectly apt for the story being told. The actors were good enough. They did their jobs. But so by then end I was satisfied with what I had seen and how it was presented. Now the reason I'm writing this is bc there were so many bad reviews that could and probably did deter many from watching, myself almost included. Fortunately, I have learned that even though IMDb ratings and a lot of the reviews can a lot of the time be apt but they can also be wrong or inaccurate or my end conclusion vastly differs from ones I've read. This I have found to be even more so with horror movies. But for all of those reasons and bc I enjoyed this film and wish others to do the same so I wrote a review. Now don't get me wrong, this isn't the best horror film even made or anywhere near it. In fact I think a more accurate rating then the one I gave it is closer to 6-6.6(I just made it higher to combat, however little, it's lower rating) but as a lover of the cinema and right now in the middle of a deep dive into the horror worlds that have been brought to life, I'd say it's worth a watch. So if you're looking for a slow-burner atmospheric thinker then this is up your alley. The ending was interesting. Enjoy whatever it is you decide to watch...later...
Snowpiercer: The Show Must Go On (2021)
2nd season's much better then the 1st, however
I'm not a huge fan of musicals by any means but a song and dance number done right and stylishly can be very entertaining. There was an episode where Wilfords girl sang a song before she came to his side of the train where it was pretty cool and done well. This episode however, while eating dinner a man went to the piano and played and sang beautifully. But this served no purpose for the story. Also, it was very convenient that he seemed to be so talented. This is supposed to be a post apocalyptic story where a smaller group of people managed to survive. The more people that happen to have those kind of skills and more so showcase them does not add to the story. It does not enrich the entertainment experience. All it does is highlight poor and lazy writing & effectively work as filler. Good writing does NOT routinely add things for filler. Also every episode starts with someone talking and just before the opening credits they mention snowpiercer's name and how many cars are on it. I'm not sure of the purpose for that but at this point it does a only annoying and another of the examples that showcase the sup standard capabilities of the writers responsible.
Shameless: DNR (2021)
I hate Debbie so much!!
With only two episodes left it's starting to feel like nothing terrible will happen to Debbie. She's so miserable always. She constantly puts her bulls*** on everyone else. She NEVER has to deal with the consequences of her actions. It just kills me that they aren't going to cause her to suffer like they make everyone else do when they're acting like awful people and causing trouble for everyone else. I loved this show throughout its entire run. This last season though, it feels a little heavy handed with all of the woke bs. It's like this is the last season and they've spending just as much time focusing on that stuff then the characters when this is a COMPLETELY character driven show. It's not done nearly as bad as in Most of the other stuff on tv but its still there and it feels like that it has somewhat hijacked the writing. I have no problem with social issues and stuff being in the story but if it was done properly then the story would be taken in it's organic route and those issues would be just things going on while the story is taking place rather then the story becoming those issues. Just my opinion. With two episodes left I'm just praying to thy tv gods to smite down Debbie and her bossy ,needy, bad parenting attitude. Deal with your stuff like an adult Debbie!!!
Come Play (2020)
Film was ok but the parents characters were so awful
The idea was entertaining enough. The mom of Oliver was such a bad parent. I feel like this was not part of the design of the story though. Forcing her autistic kid to be around kids who he has no prior relationship with bc his speech therapist strongly suggested it. Telling him to stop humming to himself while he was clearly upset bc she's mad at him. Yelling why can't you just be normal while he's already so upset he's spinning around and yelling and then immediately after this she decides to let him know his father got in an accident and might not wake up. Hello?! Your kid is autistic lady!! You can't do that kind of thing. You also can't force interactions from them as much as you'd like to or think that's how people are supposed to act. Then she decides to tell the awful speech therapist about this whole ordeal with Larry?! Like are you trying to get social services called on you? Again, aside from most of the actions of the adults in the movies being terrible, ignorant, stupid, and highly insensitive, the movie was an ok horror movie with the whole Larry monster and how that was shown. The parents thing I'm talking about definitely hurt the overall quality of the movie though.
Wireless (2020)
Anything chosen to do instead of watching this would be time Monumentally better decision.
This is just another example of the deterioration of pretty much all things being shown on tv. I watch a lot of media and I'd say 8.5 times out of 10 the writing is just terrible. This is not one of those that has good quality. The characters are only believable if you think people are very stupid generally, which, with our current state of affairs in America that argument could justifiably be made but this I'm not a slice of life here. This is supposed to be an entertaining escape from reality that lasts about an hour and a half. The main character is cyber-stalking his ex while driving on a mountain. I understand talking and texting while driving but past that is kind of ridiculous. But so he then tries to take a shortcut bc his route was closed only to find another closed back road on a mountain in the middle of nowhere. While all this was going on he decided to edit his bio info on tinder and make a go at looking for love, again, all while driving. He does all of this and manages to connect to someone in about 3 minutes. But so he has to turn around bc his road is closed so he can get back to civilization. So he decides to begin this conversation with his tinder match all while doing this. So he's on a back road on a mountain in the middle of nowhere and he begins texting and driving which if you've ever done this then you'd know that you're not going to be just staring at the screen. You hit a few keys and then look up at the road. And you continue to do this. Not our "hero" here though thanks to the thankless efforts of these amazing new talents that brought you this waste of money. He's literally staring at his phone and waiting for a response as he manages to drive off the road. None of the choices by the characters are really believable at all. None of the characters are likable at all. The story is not a bad idea but coming up with the idea for a story is probably the easiest part about creating a tv show or film. After that, it seems to me that the writers just did not put any effort in to this. It bothers me when you see garbage like this on tv bc to me it feels like the writers believe the audience is almost completely brainless and that they will watch it and enjoy it simply bc it is on tv. Any writer who takes pride in their work would never put something out there like this that is so lazily put together and so poorly written. I can't say enough about how poorly this is written and how the only justice that could come out of is would be if the writers were blacklisted from the film industry and never got another job writing. Some people make the wrong careers choices and these people clearly did just that.
The Girl with All the Gifts (2016)
So good!!!
I usually only leave reviews because I'm so offended at what I've just watched that I need to say something but this was not the case here in the least. Wonderfully atmospheric and eerie. Original idea executed by great actors. The writing was also top notch. This film fired on all Cylinders!!!
Alphas (2011)
Bad writing
Show looked good. It was a cool concept but the writing was very poor. The characters were flat and cliche. I couldn't get past the first 5 or so episodes before I had to stop watching it.
Your Honor (2020)
Writing was just terrible
I don't usually write reviews but I felt like I needed to say something here. The atmosphere of the story was great. That aside, the entire story and the reactions of the people in it were just awful. I don't understand how shows are made. What I mean is that I would think that at least to some degree, the people running the show would look at scripts before they can decide the script is finished. If anyone had done this and had half of a brain, i would've thought that the quality of the writing would have been apparent enough to ask for a rewrite. It's honestly insulting that the writers and the people in charge of what I spoke of a moment ago don't seem to have enough respect for the audience or their jobs to put forward something that makes sense and has believable characters that do at least somewhat believable things. Basically the entire time time the kid and how he handles this situation is that of a five year old. It's Utterly unbelievable. I found myself rooting for him to be found out and killed for most of the series. At least then some justice would have been done because anything other then him just being taken out back and shot would just further add to the ridiculousness of this story and his part that just takes you further and further away from being engaged with every moment he's on the screen.
The Sister (2020)
The character Nathan is just the worst!!
Only on ep# 2 but he's just a complete coward/bit**. Completely unlikeable. Just wants to live in his Delusional world regardless of how the truth could affect the people in his world. No respect for people that don't take responsibility for their actions. Maybe this is the point but it's just hard with characters that are so awful like this.
Masters of Sex (2013)
Horrible characters disguised behind Elegant dialogue
I'm almost on the last season and I have to say I'm very disappointed. Some of the minor characters were quite likable at times But also at the same time some of their actions was just awful. All of the main characters I found were highly clichéd and utterly unlikable. Bill's wife redeemed herself in the last season. As I watched the entire series all that I wanted to happen was awful terrible things to the 2 main characters. They were utterly Despicable to each other and everybody else throughout the entire show. Every once in a while one of them would do a human thing so my hate for them would subside for five minutes of the show. It was just very disappointing. I know Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan are both good actors and they both did good with what they had to work with but the show just felt very hollow to me. I was very disappointed. If you can get by with Well written monologues from time to time spoken by bad characters and unrealistic reactions to real life situations with lots of naked beautiful women thrown in To appeal to the shallowest of cinematic entertainment Then maybe this is for you. But if you like good writing and great stories this is not a good option.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
Would give it less but there's no option less then 1
It's just really upsetting when garbage like this gets made and they cancel brilliant shows after only one or two seasons. I get trying to cash in on the walking dead but I feel like through the process of making this and financing it and airing it that SOMEBODY would have said that there is literally not a single aspect of this show that has anything but sub par quality. We have been in a golden age of television but this is a great example of how peoples greed and lack of respect for the audience or the art form are dominant enough for an atrocity like this to be created, paid for, and aired. The capitalistic model of the studio system at its finest...smh...
The Tax Collector (2020)
Cliche and disappointing
I'm a big fan of Shia LaBeouf so I was excited for this because of the trailer but the trailer was very misleading. I guess the reason for this was because if they made a trailer that represented the film accurately then there would have been considerably less interest. There just wasn't any substance here. Instead, it was filled with typical David Ayer imagery and cliche. Even the scenes where gun fighting was going on at were just trite. The main character bust into a room with his automatic weapon pointed at the 2 people in Bed and miraculously misses both of them...obviously because there needed to be more of a build up to add some drama for the conclusion but drama can't be built up if there's no compelling story. There were two things about it I liked though. Although Shia's character never really got fleshed out, I felt he was great w what he had to work with. And there was a lot of great atmosphere present throughout the movie. But when your characters are cliche and your plot is flat great Ambience simply not enough to carry a film.
