Poor Things (2023)

The death of literature
1 March 2024
I started watching it yesterday and stopped half way around because I couldn't take it. Today I decided to force myself to finish it and failed around last quarter again. Finally finished it in my third try. How come critics and people rate this so high? Last 10 years people brain washed by Hollywood so badly, it seems many people don't even remember what is a good movie anymore. Apparently all they need is some artsy CGI and fancy sets in the end. But this is not an art exhibition, it's a movie.

It felt like Terry Gilliam decided to make new movie, Wes Anderson jumped in to it to bring colors and colorful customes and then David Lynch got there to make it into a thematic film. The imagination worked on the sets, locations and costumes, and Emma Store's pure beauty fits perfectly although certain scenes made me think that they've been generated through AI. But when it comes to writing a script, they stuck in modern Hollywood's Activism themes. They had to go with Feminism and it turned this possibly interesting story into a horrible disaster. Apparently no one can write something fresh that you can connect or imagine anymore. Summary of the movie is full of pathetic, weak and disgusting men (what a surprise) on one hand, and pure, adventurer, strong and "free" 160 IQ Bella on the other. Her inorganic improvement is the result of forced Hollywood themes and it's difficult to make a connection. They've become so obvious with this charade, you see them coming from miles away. By the way, sex scenes or soft porn level material is not an issue for me as long as it contributes to bigger picture. But aimless nudity and sex scenes become pretty boring even it's featuring a goddess like Emma Stone.

Funny thing is, I don't even need to mark "this review contains spoilers" when I post this review. Because whenever a new movie comes out in the last 5 years, majority of them have been pretty much same empty, boring characters in it with forced script. The only good thing about this film is, it's not a "remake". At least it tries to be its own even though it contains so many references and influences from many other movies.

Where do you find these people?
1 February 2024
There are "feel good" movies. You just watch them to put a smile on your face, they make you feel happy. And then, there are movies just make you feel bad. You feel bad because your intelligence rejects such an inferior product. This is a recent trend actually. I seriously don't know how they pick these actors and writers but they deliver the worst material thanks to horrible writing and cringy people. By the way, I'm an action fan and "mindless action" is great most of the time as long as it's done right. This is just a John Wick wannabe B movie diguised as an A class thanks to its budget (probably above the average).

There is not much to say about Statham, he's doing some of his usual stuff again except he can't bend, jump or do his moves on the floor due to his age. As for the rest of the crew, that FBI lady is in the center of "feel bad". I mean useless nosey female law person is a cliche older than me already but her appearance, attitude and style couldn't be cringier than this, zero credibility. At least try to find some actor looks like a government agent for god sake. Her only contribution to the story is to help bringing more people to get wasted by Statham. As for Jeremy Irons, clearly he needed money, maybe that's understable at some extent. I won't even go into other cartoonish villains. Very bad copies of John Wick universe characters.

Long story short just stay away from this one. This is not John Wick, Nobody or even Extraction.

The Menu (2022)

Half-baked ideas, unsatisfactory results
17 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The story is built upon certain metaphors and I must admit that it works great on paper. If you're a hardcore fan of arthouse movies, it might work for you. Otherwise, you may not enjoy the experience, as I didn't. Movie's itself is trying be a menu, courses of food and while the dishes are getting difficult to digest, the movie also gets more difficult to digest as well. After all, it's a story of a chef who lost his joy of cooking. Margot's remarks on the menu in the third act also remarks on the movie's itself. She says it hasn't been a satisfying experience and she's still hungry after all the dishes served. Probably writers also wanted us the share this particular view since this is a conceptual, thematic story. As I said in the beginning, it sounds great on paper yet the effect is not easy to be achieved. Plot holes didn't help it either. Probably the most important thing would be the reason why those guests were picked for this special occasion. I was hoping some intriguing connections between them but unfortunately almost none of them convinced me. Especially margot character didn't work well. She was just there to be the person who can understand chef's motives and beat him by reminding his early days he loved cooking rather than satisfying his "ignorant" customers. Of course Ari Aster movie type ending (Hereditary, Midsommar) felt forced. All of a sudden, seeing guests accepted their fate was simply ridiculous. How his cooks got into this scheme is completely another story requires background and explanation.

I've heard that this movie is one of the very good ones came out in recent years. It's really sad to that movie industry is declining so badly.

Too much nonsense but great action
17 June 2023
An absolute treat for any action movie fan. I can't say that I enjoyed the first one, honestly I don't even remember any details properly. However I will definitely revisit this one. So many memorable action scenes in it. A surprising one from Netflix I'd say between their garbage originals.

By the way finally someone else figured out that a good action movie requires nicely and creatively shot and choreographed action scenes in the first place, plain and simple. The main reason why we still have upcoming John Wick sequels is also the same reason. One problem though, this one uses too much CGI. I wouldn't complaint actually but quality was really bad yet I can't call it terrible. Also there are certain "action movie" class nonsensical events happening (thank god not Fast & Furious level) but in the end it was a fun experience, keeping you edge of your seat and it's all that matters. I highly recommend it to any action fans.

Last of us chronicles
20 February 2023
Like many reviews mentioned already, first episode is a very good start then it all goes down the hill. There is no chemistry between joel and Ellie, Bella ramsay is a miscast, almost each episode new characters from the game introduced and some serious screen time is being spent on their development instead of Joel and ellie. That's why I would call this one "chronicles" instead of The Last of us because it's only a glimpse of the game. Small pieces cannot be hold together because main character development sacrificed over character variety. It simply doesn't give me the excitement of waiting new episodes. If it doesn't give me the excitement as a fan of the game, I cannot imagine people who haven't play the game.

Twin Peaks (1990–1991)

One of the most terrible follow-up seasons
14 January 2023
This is unacceptable. I love David Lynch, seen all his movies, even multiple times some of them. I couldn't start this one for a long time since I've been keeping my distance to TV series in the past. Last week decided to give it a go and I must say that I was mesmerized. If I would try to define the first season, I'd say enigmatic, sexy, cryptic, stylish and goofy. It's a rare find and deserves pretty much 9/10 in my book. Yes, acting is pretty bad at first, especially the sheriff, but it gets better after the pilot episode. Lynch's style was clear and obvious in dream sequences but also I loved the lame soap opera broadcasted on TV during the entire season as a metaphor. I almost felt hearing Lynch's scream of "I know writing is lame but this is TV dummy!". Of course one must accept that this show was filmed in 1990, an era of TV shows had low budget since the most TVs were 21 inch tubes back in the day.

However, there is nothing can explain how scattered and terrible the second and final season is. All those definitions that I can use for first season were all gone because characters were gone basically. Almost all characters, including lead ones have major changes in their character and it kills the entire atmosphere. It reminds me Netflix's Mindhunter. Same happened there exactly. First, build intruiging characters and waste your entire effort in the following season. Also I don't know how that happened but clearly it was an awful idea to make a 22 episodes season after making an 8 episodes one. Probably it was a requirement by the networks in those days (an episode per week for months). However the mood of this show wouldn't fit such a plan. Therefore it utterly fails and pretty much breaks all your good feelings toward the first season's quality. I would give it 4/10 at the most. I guess 6/10 for entire experience would be pretty fair. I haven't watched the 3rd season (recent one) yet it seems I lost my appetite anyway.

First Blood (1982)
8/10
A war veteran's frailty
11 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've seen this movie countless times. I remember when I was a kid, I've been thinking Rambo is an action figure due to the following installments of the franchise. However, this one is one of a kind. Maybe some people could criticize the acting of Stallone. In my opinion he fits perfectly for a person who spent most of his life in war and therefore he's disconnected from the civilized society.

Movie has two angles. First one is US Army trains its elite teams so good, they're almost invincible. A green beret can take town an entire town single handedly. This is clearly the "recruitment" angle of the movie. I believe people were so pumped to join the army and become like him back then (Top Gun was followed by this one, it's no surprising). On the other hand, there is humanity angle, the effect of war on people. It brings people back to the jungle rules and destroys their entire life, figuratively. Movie tries to emphasis on humanity angle more I think and victimize John Rambo. Especially the final monologue displays how shattered the man's mental state due to what he's encountered in Vietnam. However the first message, being an invincible man, is so strong, probably only message left people's mind after watching the movie is to join the army and become someone like him. I find movie's reverse effect quite ironic honestly. Probably that was the reason Rambo has become a single-man army type of figure in the following films.

One final thing that I'd like to mention is, I highly admire and appreciate the stunt work and explosions in the movie. We're surrounded by CGI so long, it's really beautiful seeing some great stunt work and fx without green screen involved. Jumping from a cliff, falling from a chopper, driving a truck onto police cars etc. Nicely filmed and pretty exciting. Hope the new era movies find an halfway between cgi and real life stunts anytime soon. It's been a long time to see that since Christopher Nolan movies.

The Last of Us: Part I (2022 Video Game)

A remake full of issues
24 November 2022
This is a horrible remake. I don't know how come no one mentioned that but there are so many bugs and inconsistencies, it's difficult to keep playing. I purchased the game on Black Friday, that being said I haven't played initial release and expected these issues have been addressed already.

I have beat this game more than 20 times and probably 5 or 6 of them was Grounded difficulty on PS3 then PS4. Now again I play grounded, but I've never come across such bugs with original game. Weird sections on the terrain you cannot climb, horrible NPC placement (either comes in between you and your target or causing you getting stuck in a corner. One time even Ellie pushed me into front of the enemy). They made the Grounded more difficult where enemies can see you from very far location, which makes sense and I liked it for a while. But on the downside it's almost impossible to go stealth on certain places. Furthermore enemies senses are very inconsistent, including clickers. Sometimes they hear you, sometimes don't. You try to grab the guy from behind and all of a sudden you open a drawer instead (no triangle shown). A few times game stuck while I was trying to pick up collectibles. Also occasionally enemies stuck behind an obstacle, and you cannot go further because of soft lock. So many arbitrary issues that is far from being hillarious, it's simply frustrating. Sometimes I cannot make sure if I passed the level because I played good or because of a bug. Also people talk about great graphics but especially Joel's clothes and animation almost look the same with original. Yes, water fx and lightning is pretty cool yet we play as Joel, he deserves the priority here. Only his face has become older and animations better. After finishing GOW Ragnarok last week, this feels like a negligent remake. Honestly I wanted to like this remake, I tried to put issues aside. However it's impossible to ignore. I was glad newcomes can enjoy this on next-gen yet this is an incomplete product.

God of War Ragnarök (2022 Video Game)
10/10
A masterful craftsmanship exceeds any expectations
14 November 2022
Now I understand how Sony was convinced to release first GOW (2018) on PC. Honestly if I wouldn't have a Playstation, I could be looking to get a PS4 or PS5 asap. Because this is not only one of the greatest title of Sony, but also it's probably the best blockbuster in recent memory. Even first Avengers or Endgame didn't give me this sort of satisfaction to be honest, nowhere close. Such a complete and epic storytelling, vastly increased depth in character development, dialogues and actions make sense, unforgettable moments, perfected an already great gameplay with highly improved graphics. And most of all, face animations are probably the most realistic ones. Especially Freya and Kratos seemed like almost real people.

Before the release, I've been thinking this is going to be a huge DLC as some claimed but I can assure it's entirely something else. Maybe first one or two hours you'll have that feeling briefly but be patient, it only gets better and better along the way. They've already created an amazing game engine and strong gameplay with first one, apparently it gave developers an opportunity to focus on storytelling, art direction and additional characters and oh boy, it really paid off.

No need for any spoilers. And I highly recommend avoid any gamesplay videos at all costs. You'll want to see and feel every detail for yourself. I'm very careful using overused words like masterpiece and epic, and I'm really careful to rate a title 10/10. But this game deserves everything.

Finally, thanks to Sony. Single player gaming should never die because such a perfection is only possible by single player titles. And thanks to Santa Monica. This game is a "naughty" statement to other Sony Studios about how a sequel should be made. This is a must-have!

Barbarian (2022)

Refreshing start ruined by shallow writing
26 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Strong and refreshing beginning with very good storytelling. Especially switching to second act and changing the entire scenery was something we usually don't see in this genre. Of course, plot holes were there already but it didn't bother me at all because I was expecting a proper explanation. However everything started to fall apart once Keith goes into the dark tunnel without any convincing reason and worse she goes after him. It was already hinted in their conversation at the night before and I was expecting a heroic woman act later on. The thing is, it's not about gender at all. Anyone with a sake mind wouldn't go after someone into a tunnel at middle of nowhere. I read other reviews where people listed all the things don't make sense, I agree with most of them. It's a huge list. Probably the worst is black homeless guy tells the entire story and knows who lived in the house for 40 years. So police or any other authorities didn't do anything about it and furthermore a rental agency book this place to other people? Why would you ruin this concept with such inferior script?

I tried to accept these issues since this is a horror movie and there are not many horror movies where characters make smart choices. But this movie took everything so far, it lost its credibility after a while. Especially third act wasted for shock value. Girl survives, rapist guy dies horribly. Unfortunately underdeveloped characters didn't allow us to grow enough hate for Justin Long's character. First act made me so happy, I thought this will be a solid 8/10. In the end it fell short big time, such a waste.

Just showing off
25 October 2022
Cinematography and general tone is pretty nice, quite enjoyable. Story is alright even though I'm not sure if it was a necessary prequel. Because we've seen the most of it in X already, predictability level was over the top. That being said they had to find something different and eventually the entire movie has become Mia Goth's "challange accepted" moment (she's one of the writers). Yes, she's hauntingly beautiful and a pretty good actress especially for the genre. However her overacting has become so boring and annoying at one point, I had to force myself to watch the rest of movie. Her attempts are designed to make you appreciate her acting skills constantly. I found myself thinking about her acting skills rather than story's itself, which is quite bad for an actress I guess. By the way her squalling was probably the most annoying sound I've ever heard. I was lucky to turn the volume down, thank god. At one scene I couldn't believe what I was watching after a weird monologue felt like stuck in a loop. Actors are conveyers, not the main event. They can elevate in certain parts but this is the result of monopolizing entire movie for a personal show off.

All I can say that this is something I would never watch again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Saved by the bell
14 October 2022
It was nice to see some proper twists finally. After almost entirely terrible season, seeing something surprising was good even though there many details don't make sense. However even this episode is full of many dull moments, especially in the drama department. Meaningless, long and boring conversations, showing the same scene over and over again... Directing and editing couldn't be worse than this. It's really sad to see such potential is wasted by inferior writing, directing and acting.

Thinking about the entire season, this is the first episode this show brought something interesting to the table for the better or worse. I'm not sure why they chose to make such an uneven season but hoping that they can tell the story better in the next season after they utterly failed to build up.

A few nice action scenes yet all boring
30 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This show has so many issues I don't even know where to begin. Especially Galadriel and Browyn are probably the most terrible actor choices. Galadriel couldn't be more cringy, how come they found this girl for a very important role. Worst is writing. I have no idea how come she's become the most respected person in numenor all of sudden? She was a prisoner a few days back. Writers failed to reflect this transition. And her motives don't make single sense ; "I cannot stop...". Is that it? Some angry girl goes after revenge. This episode gave the hint she's in the dark side actually, clearly it's the reason they found this actor. But it doesn't justify her behavior and earnt respect. As for Browyn, she was a helper at the bar at first, now she's leading people. Killing orcs and everything. I would buy it if she could be an Elf yet again she earnt respect of everyone in the village. I think Woke is killing this show so fast. Aragorn's doppelganger again is pretty weak, I can't see any ambition in him, in any sense. Black elf is doing a really good job though.

At the final scene, the moment everywhere was in under smoke due to volcano, it looked like all main characters died there. After I saw that moment all I thougt was "I couldn't care less". If it's the final scene of entire show and there won't be any other episode, it's fine by me.

On the other hand, people are talking about great visuals, CGI etc. I think it's a given nowadays. All big budget productions have it, so I don't see anything exceptional here.

Alright, GOT and LOTR are totally different productions but they are the only ones we can compare with this. After I'm thinking cliffhangers, character developments, actors and eveything in those show/movies, this one falls terribly short. Directing, actors, writing are simply boring, uninteresting. I'll watch the entire season of course but I have zero excitement.

Getting high on religion
7 September 2022
I cannot believe these high scores from critics, especially from trustworthy ones like Guardian and Empire. This is a character study of a lonely and mentally deranged person's struggle. It could fit in a short movie but stretched to almost a full length. Clearly the highlight is Clark's performance and a few deformity fx where you could call it "horror". I think horror genre must be stripped from these type of movies because this falls into pure drama and fantasy category.

Probably critics' high scores come from establishing a relation between mental illness and religion since blasphemy is a trend nowadays. As an agnostic person I'm completely indifferent to the subject. As for the overall experience, it was painful to watch an irritable and annoying person's struggle. I like art house movies but this one was a bit much for my taste. If you're into it, you're in the right place and might be a 9er for you.

Kids are smarter than adults, at least they used to be and there is always hope
4 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know the story behind Woodstock 99 and I'm glad to see this documentary, except the last 5 minutes of the most meaningless remarks. Summary of the events happened in Woodstock 99 comes from John Scher : "We've did our best for Woodstock 94. It was a beautifully organized event but because of the rain and after the fence came down, more than half of the attendees were free-riders. This time I have no intention to lose money and I'll compansate what I lost back then". That explains everything. Budget cuts from everything, including the very fundamentals. It's not about drunk teenagers, drugs, Limp Bizkit or anything else. In fact blaming kids because of this mess doesn't make sense at all. If their intention would be a riot, they could have torn apart the place on Saturday, not before going back home. If you try to rip people off, you have to be ready for the consequences. Clearly crowd's reaction got out of the hand too quickly but seeing people to stand up for their rights is something we don't see nowadays. Of course every reaction in a huge crowd will end up in chaos. Yes, it's obviously too much but also a reminder of "Either do you job properly or this is what you'll get". You can blame the bands or "frat boys" as much as you want, this is what it is.

One thing bothered me the most is footages always show angry boys in the crowd. It's a manipulative approach makes you think 90% of the crowd is angry boys who is the only guilty party here, harrasing girls, breaking stuff etc. But then... I realized this comes from Netflix and somehow they brought woke and feminism into it. Unbelievable. 250K people attends to an event full of drugs and alcohol, and they're talking about alleged rape or harrasment cases is the main disaster of the entire event. That MTV Vj says "back then man thought that...". Again men are evil, animals, yeah. It's not back then, today you throw an uncontrolled event on fire like this where everyone is naked, full of drugs and alcohol, same would happen. These people stole a truck and drove it into the crowd for god sake, what would you expect? In short no need to put these meaningless remarks into this documentary, as if these events happened on the street. Instead of this, I'd like to know what happened afterwards. Lang's assistant says she's got a phone call about a rape case. She was laughing out loud during the entire interview and all of a sudden a few fake tears for a special moment. Were there any lawsuits? Did organizers get away with all the trouble they caused? How much money they made? Nothing answered, only lecturing and accusations. It all came down to 90s were dark ages and now we're in an enlightment era, yeah sure.

Nice thing is all the interviews including females say that it was an event once in a lifetime, there it is. Great performances, huge crowd and only problem is terrible planning and treatment from organizers.

Finally it's a sad thing these sort of disasters didn't help organizers to realize they should do their job better. Instead all festivals have become so sterilized, professional and boxed, you have not much room to enjoy the environment anymore. Open space and freedom is all gone. Take some selfies, videos, and post it to your channel. Anyone who's been there in 99, man or woman, should feel themselves lucky. Even if it looks like a hell for some.

Fall (I) (2022)

Could have been much better
3 September 2022
As a B movie, I had pretty low expectations. But after watching 3/4 of the movie, I was happily surprised. There were only a few issues about physics and maybe the phsyical shape of climbers (also wind factor was ignored for that height). However, it didn't kill the mood, I enjoyed it a lot. Then the last quarter, that meaningless plot twist came in. It was completely unnecessary, added nothing to the mood or story, and made me feel lost. Otherwise my score could be a solid 7 or 7.5.

Regardless, I recommend anyone to watch. Usually these sort of movies get a lot fake reviews, yet this time it's not the case. It's not an average unbearable B movie.

Almost a B movie
27 August 2022
Interesting premise turned into a cliche story with full of ridiculous scenes, horrifying CGI and forced villain who doesn't have a clear purpose. Honestly I've had hopes this might be a fun ride and even though the first half would be called just fine, overall experience was terrible. Probably writers thought that plot twist was going to save the movie yet it made zero sense and added nothing to the story. Also kid actor was quite weird, I had serious trouble to decide if I liked him or hated him during the entire movie, pretty annoying. I hope Stallone will not become the new Bruce Willis, he's too smart for that.

Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
Season 6, Episode 13
10/10
Mixed feelings first, then it leaves you in awe
16 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After I finishing this final episode, at first I couldn't make sure if I'm satisfied or not . Then I started put the pieces together, every single detail provided within the episode and I realized this is simply the best possible ending. "You let that sink in..."

Since BCS started, I was so sure that Kim will die at some point, there was no otherwise. But it turns out in the end, hustler Jimmy can only be beaten by love, which provided a great importance and meaning to Kim's storyline. Episode also proved that Saul Goodman is still the best, he could get away with only 7 years for a crime he could easily get two lifesentences back to back. Instead his sacrifice put him in behind bars for a long time. That was the only moment I felt that it was sort of an unsatisfactory resolution however, Better Call Saul chanting in the bus was a great scene that tells Saul is now where he belongs. Not because the crimes he committed, because who he is.

So much to tell, so much to digest yet I'm very happy by the ending. Final thought, I think it's time to put a lid on Breaking Bad universe but I wouldn't say no to Lalo spin-off.

"I have a good feeling about this"
2 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The show is going back to its roots. Subtle details in the storytelling rather than a storm like Lalo and Gus storyline. I understand why some people get angry about the pacing. Honestly I also would expect more from this.

Last episode was about Saul is gaining confidence again. And this one came down to questioning the past, how come he made a terrible mistake by creating Heisenberg trouble and ruin his life. Episode pictures it like a dilemma, he's either blaming himself or Walt but I felt it's more like self guilt.

Also he's working hard to make more and more money to make his way out. Question is making his way out to what? This reminds me the time Walt's return from BB finale.

I guess the last two episodes were enough build up for the grand finale. I expect nothing less than a hurricane for next episodes.

Time to build up for later events
26 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
While I was watching this episode, I've been thinking that with Lalo died, this show also died a little. But after finishing the episode I realized the importance of this episode.

If you remember the first season, Saul was living in fear (B&W timeline). He was looking every corner all the time if someone recognizes him and he gets caught. Finally it really happened and this episode showed that he can handle himself against every threat. His resourcefulness and skills allow him to beat anyone, even he can turn someone who lacks of self confidence into a player.

In my opinion this episode showed us and him that Saul is still there, he's in the game and can make a move forward instead of caving in. One of the reviews mentioned that this episode shows that Saul is the same scammer and cannot change. On the contrary he never wanted to change (watching his old commercials on tape), he's in exile and want to go back to his life. And of course get what he deserves, good or bad.

I'm expecting tension goes up in last 3 episodes and hope that finale can top the first half finale of the season.

Thank you!
12 July 2022
Oh man, I was almost going to have an episode by watching terrible seasons of the shows recently came out. Even with supposedly good ones there is always a catch. But Better Call Saul saved the day again. I'm totally pumped after watching this episode and can't wait for next one.

No need for any spoilers. Terrific work as always. My only "irrelevant" complaint is that why there are no more high quality shows like this out there anymore? And there are only a few episodes left to say goodbye. Succession and BCS have been the best things happened this year. So thank you, I appreciate their work a lot!

The Boys: The Instant White-Hot Wild (2022)
Season 3, Episode 8

Fun but pointless finale
8 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I read the reviews and apparently most viewers think the same. Yes, it's great to watch, an absolute fun. But the problem is that there have been so many plot twists back to back this season, finally none of them contributed to move the story forward and we're back to square one. I enjoy this show a lot yet you want it to pay it off after watching an entire season.

Also I'm sorry but this feminism approach make things pretty inconsistent (same happened last season finale, it was all about Maeve and Starlight). I mean if Maeve is so powerful to fight Homelander all by herself, why she never stood up to him before? They are scared to death from him. Even after Soldier Boy, Maeve and Butcher (with V) come together to fight against him yet it's even an arguable success. But Maeve against Homelander and Starlight against Soldier Boy didn't make sense a bit, it's simply ridiculous. No need to make things pointless just in the name of women empowerment. Plus how come she's alive after her powers drained by Soldier Boy and she's fallen from a 60 story building? Last of us 2 ending was completely unnecessary.

Regardless, I must say that the show is still a huge success with all its flaws. Honestly I may call it even a masterpiece if you compare it to recent Marvel stuff. I hope they come up with better writing or just finish it while evething is still good.

Doesn't hit the spot
8 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a huge sports fan yet I like watching sports movies. In fact good sports movies use sports as a metaphor to life struggle and those are the memorable ones. The problem with this one is, it doesn't know where to stand. It's neither all-in basketball movie nor a fine drama.

First of all, even though the kid can play basketball, he's a really bad actor. He can't carry the role he plays and fails miserably to make me feel for his character's struggle. I'd even have more sympathies for Ivan Drago for that matter. Second issue is the pacing. When first Sandler finds him, he's already damn good. The priority is not to get him trained since his problem is not physical, it's rather mental. What he needs is professional help or a mentor to grow self-confidence. Instead movie goes with classic "Rocky" pattern and honestly it was when this movie lost it. Because one scene kid plays amazing, next one plays terrible, then again gets much better, right after that he can't even run for 10 minutes.. It goes like this on and on until you realize that this process doesn't even matter to you at all since you don't have a proper connection to this kid or Sandler's character. There is not enough character development, background story and fine acting to support their bond. Emotions are not there, it's all about if Sandler will go bankruptcy or his investment will pay off.

Long story short, drama, acting, sports... Whatever you're looking for is not here entirely. They're all in pieces and movie doesn't have the right recipe to put them together. I wouldn't say it was terrible but I don't think I would watch it again or remember it tomorrow.

Better Call Saul: Plan and Execution (2022)
Season 6, Episode 7

Lalo!!
24 May 2022
In very rare situations, certain lucky show creators may create an impeccable show in their life. It happens only once in a lifetime because it's usually related to this person's mindset in certain age or time. Vince Giligan has been one of those lucky people by creating Breaking Bad (also x-files, but it's not the same level) which was almost 15 years ago. It has nearly a dozen unforgettable characters in it.

While I've been thinking no one can top this once-in-a-lifetime situation, Mr Vince introduced Lalo. He's one of the most interesting characters that I've seen for a long time. He's intimidating, smart yet sometimes he makes you burst out a laugh all of sudden. Great character study, almost needs his own spin-off series. All kudos to Giligan.

As for the episode, no details need to be given, you must see it for yourself. It's a solid 10/10.

Morbius (2022)
5/10
What?!
21 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've heard how bad this is, therefore I was trying to stay away. Finally last night I decided to give it a chance and couldn't even stay awake during its short runtime. It's so rushed I felt like I'm watching a 100 minutes trailer of a movie. How come people earn millions of dollars by writing such an inferior script.

After finishing the movie, all I felt was they've made the movie just to introduce a female "morbius" in the end. I mean seriously, his best friend becomes vampire, then his girlfriend becomes vampire. Is this a new sequel of Twilight or something? Stay away at all costs.
