Blackout (2022)
Painful...
I agree with an earlier reviewer: I'm not sure I'll make it through to the end. 20 minutes in and I already have a strong suspicion that this might be the worst movie I've ever watched.
This movie is absolutely terrible in every way. Plot, conversation, acting... Everything. I'll give you an example:
In one scene the main character is having a flashback. He's in a (terrible as usual) conversation with the bad guy, Eddie. Eddie is holding a glas of tequila in his left hand and his hair is up in a ponytail. Cut to another angle and all of a sudden his hair is down and the glas is gone. Cut back again and the ponytail and glas is back. Cut again. No ponytail and he takes a mouthful of tequila from the bottle. What the...? It's amazing to watch all the inconsistencies in this production. They are everywhere and they are hilarious.
I won't give anything away, but the end leaves me with a feeling that the producers of this mess will hit us with a sequel. I'm looking forward to it, but at the same time I don't think they will be able to raise enough money for it. I would love to see it. I haven't been this entertained in a while.
Was there a script or did they make the plot up as they went along? Was the budget over or under 5 bucks? Was this flick made by 4th graders? Did they make it this lousy just to win some kind of award? The questions are piling up minute by minute.
BTW: Did you know that the point of a satelite phone is that it's easily traceable? I just learned this.
I urge you to watch this movie. Watch it as a comedy/parody, not as an action flick. It should be used at every film school as an example on what NOT to do.
A note to some reviewers: You know that the average of 1-10 stars is 5 stars. Right? How can you give a movie you dislike as much as you say a 5 star review? Your words doesn't match your rating.
Mid90s (2018)
Loved it!
Jonah Hill and his co-workers created a masterpiece here!
The story is told at a rather slow pace without silly effects or music to enhance them. There is music - good music - but never where it's not needed. The dialogue feels so real that it feels like you're right there with the actors. Also it's filmed in 4:3 to give it an authentic feeling of the mid 90's and the skateboard films that was shot back then.
As a photographer I also were caught by the beautiful imagery. Clean, simple, raw... Fantastic!
I can go on and on, but I won't. Just see the movie. Hopefully you'll fall in love with it too.
Black Summer (2019)
This could have been so good. Could have.
The script is so thin it's embarrassing. I would be ashamed putting my name on it. Seriously ashamed.
Lots of people complain about the actors. These people doesn't seem to understand how little the actors have to work with here. I'll list some of the dumb stuff going on:
- The carachters keep shooting at the zombies torsos. That's scripted. Totally stupid, seriously annoying, but scripted.
- How likely is it that a young japaneese woman doesn't know a single word of english? Let alone travels to America without knowing any english words? They do teach english in japaneese schools. This nonsense is written into the script.
- The airforce are constantly bombing everything. Yet there's no bombed out buildings, huge craters or other traces of bombing raids. Scripted.
Those are just a couple of the things that bugs the hell out of me after watching S1.
What's nice about the show and what could have helped propel it to the top of the genre is the photography, the fact that the episodes are short and themselves divided into short chapters and the fact that the zombies remains as athletic after turning as they were when they were alive. Nice touch.
I get the impression that the creators worked really hard on the framework but when it came to filling this beautiful frame with equally beautiful art they ran out of juice. Or money. Or both. That's sad.
Z Nation (2014)
Declining quality
The first season was pretty good. The plot had it's flawes but all in all it was a good show. After a while the manuscript started getting thinner and thinner and by e03s02 it was so thin it was laughable. I mean...
- A guy running around with ONE anti tank grenade launcher but launching it two times. Once you launch one of those their useless. It's a disposable weapon that can't be reloaded. And on top of that: where would he hide a new missile? He was wearing a suit.
- So now getting shot is enough to turn you into a zombie? I thought killing someone was a way to make them NOT turn into a zombie. It happened during S01 too, but by now it's just riddicoulus.
There's more. Much more. Almost every scene contains something that makes you roll your eyes in disbelief.
I will continue watching the show for a while to see if it gets better again but I have my doubts. For now it gets a five star rating from me but if the plot doesn't get better it will drop drastically.
Crossing Lines (2013)
Good idea. Lousy execution.
The idea of putting together a series about an international team of investigators working cross border cases is good. In fact it's great. The problem in this case is that the plots are paper thin in most episodes. Sometimes graphene thin. And the acting... Please. There's some great actors on the cast but for some reason this doesn't show. Not even Donald Sutherland - one of the greats in this business - is very good. It's too bad.
The actors jump to totally ridiculous conclusions - correct ones - that are very far fetched, they have this silly technical equipment that makes you think you're actually watching Star Trek or something... The list goes on and on.
This could have been such a great show but the budget, the management or both threw it all away.
Arrow (2012)
24 goes Batman goes Robin Hood goes Lost goes...
I agree with rasmusu-437-373780 in everything he writes in his review of this series and I would like to add a little to it.
Some might blame the poor result on the budget but that's just not right. Removing silly things like the waterfall in the Arrows HQ would actually have saved money (Really? A waterfall in an abandoned factory in the middle of New York/Starling City? That's just stupid.)
Writing a solid manuscript isn't more expensive than writing a manuscript with holes the size of the moon in it either. For example:
One day Moira Queens (mother of Arrow) driver is away and John Diggle (Arrows partner) steps in to drive her to a party. As they get in to the car she thanks him for stepping in and tells him that she can't remember the last time her driver was away from his job. Later that night Diggle talks to Arrow and says that he's been driving her around for a couple of days. Say what?
This is just two small examples of annoying details in the series. The thing is that it's riddled with them. Every episode contains these kinds of mistakes.
Another thing: Is it just a fluke that Arrow/Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) talks EXACTLY like Harvey Spector (Gabriel Macht) in Suits or is it yet another thing the makers stole from another series?
