The Gentlemen (2024)
Film one thing, series is in a league of its own.
Loved the film, and love this series.
Guy Ritchie, the marmite man it seems, but he rarely gets it wrong. Lock Stock, Snatch (best of the bunch), Rocknrolla, The Gentleman are all in the same vein. If you struggle with the Brit mob theme, maybe these films (and now TV series) arent for you.
Brilliant fun, main characters sharp witty and keeps the whole thing ticking along. I flick through the reviews and people need to take life less seriously! A blast of a show, GR's signature cocky wit and charm, I personally can't wait for the second season. A refreshing break from all the heavy laden American shows. Thumbs up to this last jaunt.
Masters of the Air (2024)
Raspberries to the RAF.
Those tight arse Brits. There, said it.
A good watch and like most have alluded to, not quite BoB but all the same, an enjoyable watch.
The negative portrayal of the RAF left a sour taste in the mouth considering. Callum Turner a British actor cast as the all American hero. Took a while to warm up but the pitch was correct, not to long or weighty. I am of the same opinion of other reviews, the casting and chemistry was a bit off beam. Funny enough, I enjoyed Butler's performance but struggle with the Bucky bravado approach and Crosby's irritating facial expressions. Overall worth the watch but with come prepared with your little pinch of 'Yanky' saltiness.
Boat Story (2023)
Retitled .. The sinking boat.
Episode one had a bit of something, and slight hook but soon after that, it just became a chore to watch.
The main two characters kept the show ticking along but my Lord, it was a painful watch in places and the ending .. well.. meh!
Honestly, this could have been easily condensed in to an tv film with a running time of 1.5hr or 30mins episodes to make it more palatable. Too many filler sub plot lines that just made the show drag and tensions to watch. All in all, it just became a bit of a farce towards the end, questionable story line and some wooden acting along the way. A very drawn out and unnecessary piece of tv to be honest. Not to my taste, but each to their own.
Love the Coopers (2015)
A movie misunderstood
Unsure for the negative reviews, this movie is a moment of reflection and the sad realisation that life moves fast and it won't be appreciated until it's too late.
Yes, it's about a dysfunctional family and equally dysfunctional characters and no, granted there isn't jiggle bells at every turn, tinsel dripping from the mantelpiece but there is absolute warmth and feel good factor about this one. Not every Christmas is about having all the trimmings it's about people and the pressures - A wonderful life broke that cliche. If you've not watched it, give it a go, if you've misunderstood it, give it some attention. Summary, a feel good 'alternative' Christmas movie.
Talk to Me (2022)
Dull
Minimal review needed for this flick, and I'm sticking with dull. It never really got going. Concept was intriguing, but it just turned in to a sixth sense with gore.
Other than the character Jade, everything felt amateurish and well, just an awful movie. I kept hoping that at some point there would be something just to propel this hunk along but, meh.
A lot of average performances, a plot that never really progressed and just a slight bizarre movie throughout. With a like more attention to the storyline as opposed to making teenagers invoking spirits and making light and you probably have the bones of a reasonable movie.
It's neither one thing or another and safe to say if won't be a repeat watch 4/10.
Oppenheimer (2023)
Super cast, super film
After reading the reviews prior to seeing the film, it felt as if this flick has divided cinema-goers. Ok, let's deal with the obvious - cast, cinematography and art of telling a story well are very much order of the day, but did it need to be 3hr sitting, probably not.
You'd be hard pushed to find a fault with the build but as many have pointed out, the bio pic is more than events of WW2, it questions the fabric of the human soul, morals and ethics along with political and professional upmanship.
All in all a super film that proved to be a fascinating watch. Nolan deliverers the goods again.
Severance (2022)
Indescribable, but yet unmissable
Very difficult to explain the appeal so, you'll have to watch it. There is massive 'hook' to this series, but you don't what it is, but it's there. I totally get the negative reviews, it's definitely a marmite type of programme.
Free Guy (2021)
Pixels meets Truman Show meets Deadpool
You so want to love it but ... For the first half of the movie I thought I was stuff in the Truman Show time loop. Some funny moments, clear CGI but the rest is incredibly thin. If you have nothing else on, maybe take a peek.
Malignant (2021)
Painful
Quite frankly, it's a mess. Voldemort meets Salt! Struggled to gather any pace, just lots of CGI injury close up of a rampaging slasher killer. Even Annabelle Wallace couldn't rescue this turd.
No Time to Die (2021)
The king is dead, long live the king!
Enjoyable film but not sure it warranted the 2h:45min run time. Felt like a Bone, but as strong as Casino Royale or Skyfall. Rami character was just odd and felt a bit of a bolt on. Not a bad, could have been better but solid 7/10.
Farewell to Daniel Craig; the best Bond to date.
Extinct (2021)
Better than I thought.
Funny and entertaining, well worth the watch. Kids enjoyed the movie, lots of laugh and clever dialogue.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
If not for Margot ..
MR great, the movie not so. Seen to get her well but story weak and just a colourful mess. Robbie excels though.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Don't believe the hype.
If you could half a star, it would a generous 4.5 stars. Two hours of shoehorning in the f-bomb and CGI blood fest. A really poor effort and poor casting for the main. Robbie and Ratcarcher the only two creditable performances. And to cap it all off, it's all about a killer starfish // Giant Pokémon.
Dull and repetitive.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
Hmmm.
Long winding and doesn't fulfil. Not a terrible movie, but wanted more. Worth a view if you get the change.
Cruella (2021)
A decent movie and Emma Stone, wow!
Solid movie for all. Disney sinister with the humour. One of the better 'live' remakes of Disney classics. Don't be put off by these 1/10 star rates, have a watch and except it for what it is.
Good movie, worth the watch and the music throughout is spot on too!
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
It's no Hill House
A protracted love story, not a ghost story. Watchable, but not what I was expecting. Well presented, well delivered, notable performances. Worth a watch, but not a patch on Haunting of Hill House.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Ouch!
As the saying goes, 'never go back!' Absolute cringe fest of a movie. It completely stole all my happy memories as a kid watching the 'original' movies.
Sorry, buts it's a 'no way, dude' movie I am afraid.
Tenet (2020)
Absolutely solid movie.
Nothing to dislike about this movie at all.
Cast and plot were great - I'm sure why people are insisting this movie is particularly difficult to follow and process, it's fine, actually more than fine.
Well worth a watch.
Tiger King (2020)
Eeek! Car crash TV
Where do you start? It's crass, disturbing and full of narcissistic, gun wielding loons! It's hard to believe that people and practices like this exist! I'd go along with all the other similar reviews, too long, too uncomfortable, too many gaps in the narrative, but is a compelling watch in the sense you can't quite believe what your witnessing!
Knives Out (2019)
It was ok
I'll be honest, I was expecting more. The movie is ok, predictable to a certain degree. Daniel Craig's accent really started to grate. Solid enough, but not sure it was worth such high praise and acclaim.
Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Dark humour, but touching
Very dark humour, but just so touching too. You'll fall in love with the young actors, an amazing job all round - Lil Yorki 🤓. Saying that, it amazes me how Rebel Wilson gets repeated gigs - dull one trick pony.
Cracking movie with laughs and very poignant moments. Well done, JoJo.
The Gentlemen (2019)
Funny from start to finish
Forget the 'expert' reviews, this is a smooth and entertaining flick with all the humour and blend of characters you'd expect from GR. Echo the thought of others, Hugh Grant absolutely brilliant, but equally, Colin Farrell a scream too.
The Irishman (2019)
Powerful
Absolute knockout of a movie. If you're looking for action blockbuster then this isn't the movie for you, but if you're looking for Oscar winning performances and must watch from the start to end credits then we have a movie of the year here.
Us (2019)
Truly overrated
Ever movie is billed as the next best thing and this is evident you should believe all you hear and read. Poor is the conclusion I am afraid.
Brightburn (2019)
It did burn bright!
Harshly review would be my opinion. Comic book style feel, but well worth a watch. Anything involving satanic bloodlust murdering juveniles must register on the creepy, unsettling scale. A solid movie
