Wings of Fire (1967)
Bearcats in other films
"There are too few movies that show an F8 Bearcat in flight (offhand, I don't know of another one). "
Checkout "Battle Hymn". Early Korean War era film where the Yaks were played by Bearcats.
There is also a book: "The Aircraft Spotters Film and Television Companion" which might give you more info.
I wish the movie were on DVD also. I saw it as a kid and loved the airplane shots.
The Hunters (1958)
Mystical number 140?
I'm very happy this movie has finally come out on DVD - ordered mine right away.
Has anyone noticed the use of the number 140 in both this movie and the previous Mitchum/Powell movie "The Enemy Below"?
SPOILERS: (though not much of one). In "The Enemy Below" the German sub's base course was 140. Sticking to that was one reason the destroyer could re-acquire.
In "The Hunters" the number comes up several times: Corona points out Mitchum's plane as number 140, in the first flight. Towards the end of the movie, in the big fight, Mitchum radios Egan that the bandits are on course 140. And I can't recall but I think there was another reference to that number.
I wonder if this means anything? Something special to the director or the writer or possibly Mitchum?
Or maybe it's simply a coincidence.
