Cruella (2021)
Blew my mind
As the 1st film we have seen in the cinema since lockdown ended I didn't have high hopes particularly. It was just something to watch with my teenage daughters on a Sunday afternoon...
We were spellbound from the start. What a movie! I did groan internally when I saw Emma Thompson, as she does seem to be in every british inspired film but she totally redeemed herself by playing the Baroness perfectly. Emma stone was fantastic and the music selection was actually the highlight for me, beautifully done.
I really think watching this film in a cinema or movie theatre will make all the difference to your enjoyment, To really see and hear the amazing cinematography as it was intended.
That is the only explanation I can fathom for the bad reviews I have seen...
Mandy (2019)
I must be watching something different to everyone else..
I happened to come across Mandy while channel hopping. I watched with open mouthed awe at the most awfully written, unfunny programme I have ever seen.
I honestly thought it was a spoof for some charity special like children in need, made to be purposely awful.
After looking online at the reviews and realising this is supposed to be cutting edge comedy in 2020, I am absolutely amazed that anyone could think this is worth watching.
I watched more episodes in morbid fascination and forced my wife and kids and endure the pain with me, to make sure it wasn't just me. It wasn't. No one smiled, let alone laughed.
From the ridiculous lips to constantly dancing around with her gangly pencil legs it is just plain awful. When Sonja from Eastenders started swearing like a sailor, including the C word, I finally tuned out for good.
Actually quite angry my licence fee money was wasted on this absolute tripe... Avoid at all costs.
Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife (2018)
Not as good as Baby Cobra
I enjoyed this special but it is not as good as Baby Cobra.
The material is predictably about being a new mother. I laughed a couple of times but also cringed a few, especially when she shows her underwear. Her close to the bone material was much better in her 1st special and more awkward this time.
She is very talented and I look forward to more specials.
Cloud Atlas (2012)
Just awful..
I gave up on this film twice but returned just to make sure the ending didn't redeem the film somehow. It didn't.. Completely confusing with cringing moments of cheesy pandering. The scene in the Scottish pub is unbelievable. Some great acting from Hanks and Neil wasted in a completely awful film.
Even if I wasted another 3 hours of my life and watched the whole mess again it still wouldn't make any sense and I would stop caring if it did after 12 mins.
I honestly have no idea what the film is about, just jumping around between various random stories with obviously some deep and meaningful connection.
A cult classic for the beardy woolly jumper brigade..
