Immortals (2011)
300 version 2.0
The storyline is a bit weak, just like in 300 and the comparisons don't stop there. The lighting and the setting of the film is very much the same as in 300 and historical accuracy is just flawed. If you like a fighting movie like 300 with some nice CGI and incredibly over directed story this is your kind of movie. The Olympic Gods are portrayed as super human as they should be and the lighting and colouring makes them seem even more super human. The mere mortals by comparison look very weak and insignificant but of course prevail where the gods could not. The storyline is a bit predictable and of course the good guys win. The dialogues are bit weak though and every scene is set to be a spectacular as possible and this movie is a feast for the eye on a big screen. The lighting and the visual spectacle is good, but the story and the acting are a bit weak despite including a host of big name actors. Enjoyable to watch but not a classic you would like to watch again and more an option for a night when you are a bit bored and nothing else is on.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (2011)
tells the story about 9/11 without telling it
This movie tells a lot of different stories. It tells the story of a family and several people whose lives were affected by 9/11, it tells the story of a child dealing with autism and his dad's way of preparing his son for life, it also tells the story of a grandmother who survived the second world war as a German and who is coming to terms with life in a strange country after the war, and last but not least it tells the story of a boy looking for the sixth burrough of New York. It is a moving account of an autistic boy trying to deal with the loss of his father and his relationship with his grandmother. It is also about the tragedy of 9/11 and tells the story of the people who died in the buildings by telling the story of those they left behind and how 9/11 changed their lives. It is a cleverly made movie and contains many plot twists. You get sucked into the story and hope the bout finds the 6th burrough even though it doesn't exist, but that doesn't really matter. It is also shows and raises awareness for children with autism and shows how well they can adapt to a normal life and how important relationships are to them. This without making the movie a very heavy movie.
Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012)
A nice visual spectacle but no more than that.
Werewolf: The Beast Among Us
Werewolf: The Beast Among Us is a 2012 action werewolf horror movie directed by Louis Morneau. The movie stars Nia Peeples, Steven Bauer, and Guy Wilson. While I usually like horror movies and movies with vampires and werewolves this one was so badly made I got bored very quickly. The special effects are not bad but the acting and the storyline are atrocious. After 15 minutes it is clear who the werewolf is and how the rest of the movie will go. The actors don't really convince me either. It is supposed to be set in 19th century Transylvania but the clothing and beliefs are all wrong for the region and much closer to Bram Stoker's Dracula. I managed to watch the movie till the end but won't buy the movie for my collection. I give it 3 stars for the visual spectacles even though it is sometimes a bit too dark and fuzzy. If you want to watch a predictable werewolf movie with some nice CGI and other fancy special effects stuff you'll like it. As a werewolf movie fanatic I found it quite dull.
Vampires (2010)
Absolutely and totally brilliant
Belgium has a long tradition of faut documentary, film noir and sarcasm and this movie does not disappoint. If you are looking for a bloody and gory Hollywood movie stay far away from it, if you're looking for great dialogues in French, Flemish and German (I must admit the movie is better if you can understand those three languages Nd get the clever jokes and sarcastic comments), excellent cinematography, a good storyline and no special effects than this is it. Movies just like movies should be made. Focusing on the acting and not on the special effects. If you like Hollywood horror ignore it, if you are a fan of Christopher Lee and Boris Karloff you'll love it.

Brilliant if you like B movies
Time for a low budget B-horror movie. Absolutely brilliant as it has no real special effects and nonetheless has acceptable acting for this genre. If you're, like me, a lover of low budget B- movies this is worth a watch. It is no Hammer movie but very watchable. Yes, the plot is wafer thin and of course none of the characters are really coming to live. The acting though is not all that bad and despite knowing after 2 minutes how the movie will go if you've seen the cover that is its very charm. It is interesting to see how the director made the subject work despite the budget. Expect no frills, no suspense building and no complex dialogues. Expect instead good old horror, blood and gore and a homevideo style experience. Like filming your own horror movie and watching it.
