The Night Agent (2023– )

Not every show is caviar. Most of them are just fish cakes.
6 April 2023
This one fits in nicely with 90% of TV drama. It fills in the gaps between the occasional good stuff and serves as padding for Netflix.

That is it's purpose and as such, is banged out factory-like along with dozens of others low brow shows. There's very little money thrown at it. Mostly 2D characters forcing along the disjointed plot, acting by numbers and jobbing actors who don't really care what they're told to say. Ok for some background noise while you're doing something more interesting. There's really not much more today other than I have another forty characters to finish this revie...

Who was surprised by a second series?
8 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think the writers expected a second series. I imagine the thoughts went something like "What are we going to do? We have no budget, we wrote ourselves into a corner and didn't realise we would have to answer for it. I know, let's make the 'aliens', like, not aliens, what a twist! Let's make them human with the same technology as all the other humans, in fact let's make them exactly like the other humans but with a tattoo on their wrists.

If you travel billions of miles to earth to harvest human stem cells, why obliterate the human race and then hunt down the now incredibly scarce pregnant women for their foetuses? Couldn't they just have asked for help? We donate them all the time without harming a soul.

Stop complaining
12 November 2020
If you give up after ten minutes then you really have no right to comment on the whole story. If you're so worried about the filter then stop watching if you can't see past it to a great story. The acting is superb, as is the editing, script and direction. This is a quality programme.

Spoiled by fake footage
25 January 2020
Great overview of the events of WW2. Interviews with historians, tacticians and the heroes of the time. Watching the battle of Britain episode, the real colourised footage was interspersed with clips from the 1960s film of the battle. Passing if off as genuine. I bit my lip and continued to enjoy the detail until one clip popped up of 1960s vehicles. At this point I felt my intelligence was being insulted. A real shame that desperation or laziness undermines the overall integrity of the programme.

Great skill sabotaged by writing
11 October 2019
Acting and photography in this flick is a very high standard. Dark but lovely and polished. All this counts for nothing though as it's let down by a story that's so disjointed you realise you stopped caring earlier on. The first part of the film I thought was a clever use of some cool cinematic style of weaving stories together. If I put the effort in to keep track, it would pay off as the film went on. But no. There's no story, just things that happen. It's full of pointless dead end scenes. Gangster one beats up gangster two who then beats up gangster one etc and on occasion a random moll appears and disappears. No character background or development either. They start off bad and, well, stay bad and carry on doing things that they did at the start of the film. Two hours....two hours of my life!! I suppose I'm optimistic and waited for that "ah, I get it" moment that was never going to come.
