No Hard Feelings (2023)
The screenplay is...
...SO much funnier than the movie. You can read it for free online via a simple google search.
Still, it's well done and the strong jokes help carry any unnecessasry mugging that happens almost throughout the entire film.
I just think it would've worked just as well, if not better if some of that mugging had been toned down.
And overall, we're so happy to see Marvel-free, good ol' fashioned romantic comedies starting to come back. Yes, some people won't pay the $$ to see them on the big screen, but it depends on the movie and the stars involved.
I'm glad to see this took that chance, and did quite well. Just think it would've been even funnier if it was played a little less hysterically and shot as written in the hilarious script.
Game of Love (2023)
Better the 2nd time around...
Okay, bear with me, as I've actually watched this twice.
The first time -- wasn't impressed at all. It seemed like we watched the leads arguing at work, then while out on a walk, then back at the cubicle, then out on another walk, rinse and repeat. No chemistry.
Then I caught it again tonight, from the very beginning. Maybe I was in a better mood, but whatever -- I had a completely different reaction. Well, maybe not completely, but it was indeed quite well done, there IS genuine chemistry between the leads, and while not exactly Shakespeare, there's more to the story than a couple of people trying to come up with a new board game in a month.
If you watch closely, you'll see the growing attraction and admiration between the characters played by Brooks Darnell and the always reliable Kimberley Sustad. What seemed a little forced on first viewing wasn't that. I think I was probably busy making dinner or whatever, but the chemistry is there.
Their acting is also very natural and believable. The same can't be said for the guy who played the 'love advisor', but that could be the director's fault. The young asian actress was a little overcaffeinated at times, but again...probably instructed to act that way.
And Sustad has the best scene and does the best job, near the end, when she tearfully realizes how her character has pushed people away, leaving her alone, and that teamwork and connecting is a far better option than being alone. That's not a 'subplot' as another reviewer suggested -- it's THE theme -- the lesson -- of the movie.
Oh, and if Darien Martin is reading this? Get a new agent. You're a good actor, and shouldn't be settling for 1-minute walk-ons. :)
The Killer in the Guest House (2020)
If you like actors with...
...strong, manly jawlines, then you'll LOVE this 'Killer' as it stars Marcus Rosner, who has a jaw that will fill a 50 inch screen.
He's a competent actor as are the others in this ludicrous story. And that's the problem. The writing is inexcusably ridiculous, and whips in so many directions, it's not even predictable -- except of course you know he'll try to kill her, but she'll kill him in the nick of time and you'll have wasted 2 hours of your life.
On a Lifetime Movie.
Oh, the irony.
Celebrity Show-Off (2020)
PAINFULLY Bad...
I'm not sure which is worse -- this cheap, talent-free show, or the fact that TBS repeats the same episodes about 10 times a day.
Why is Mayim Bialik involved with this disaster? She's the only one on the show with any talent, and has all the money she'll ever need from the Big Bang Theory. What she's doing on show with a bunch of Z-Listers is truly confounding.
Bella Thorne -- "Social Media Megastar"? Like the announcer says, that was over 10 years ago. Since then she's made a couple dozen completely worthless and forgettable "films".
At least Kevin Smith proves why he hasn't made a decent film since...oh wait, he never made a decent film.
The WIllis Sisters? Shoot...they just bowed out of the show. Maybe they're smarter than anyone gives them credit for. But without these superstars on the show I don't know if I can go on living, especially knowing Tori Spelling is taking their places.
If you thought 'The Misery Index' is bad, you haven't seen "Celebrity Show-Off". Just incredibly, inexcusably, painfully bad.
Broke (2020)
Pretty bad, but...
...if you're bored out of your gourd -- and I mean BORED -- then there's always the opportunity to watch this just to admire the beauty that is Jamie Camill.
He's impossibly pretty, definitely easy on the eyes.
He could use one very important thing though.
A NEW AGENT.
Mom (2013)
First time is my last time...
Perhaps I missed the best this show had to offer in it's early years, but stumbled across the show tonight so decided to watch an episode.
Sorry, but it was a HUGE disappointment. Not a single laugh or even a smile during the entire show. Janney's won a half dozen Emmys, but here, at least tonight, she just phoned in her performance.
And the laugh track? This one is SO obvious, so fake, so not infectious. HAHAHAhahahhaha. HAHAHAHAHhahahaha.
If the show was funny, it wouldn't need one.
