Civil War (2024)

Civil War movie thoughts
12 April 2024
Civil War some parts of are very unnerving, unsettling, the movie hits right in your gut, hits you emotionally. Kristen Dunst's character, Lee is stoic her performance is really good, she is hard-edged, she's seen horrible things over her career as a photo journalist, but she and few other photo journalists want to interview somebody in Washington DC before rebels storm Washington DC. Kristen Dunst performance and her relationship to a newer photo journalist named Jessie played by Cailee Spaeny is one of the stongest parts of of the movie. Jessie hero worships Lee and wants to follow in her footsteps, and she tags along with Lee and a few others who go on a road trip to Washington DC. Cailee Spaeny plays Jessie with young enthusiasm, some naivety, but also throughout the road trip, she gets her eyes opened to the harsh realties of this world. Interesting thing, they never in the entire movie really clarify actually say what the rebels are against who broke away from the United States. It's very vague, it's never really said that I heard what the divisions that caused the rebels to fight against other forces, they toss bread crumbs , stuff the president did but nothing much else that I heard is ever really explained in depth. There's a certain scene with actor, Jesse Plemons, his character in this movie is only in for few minutes, but his scene, I won't give anything away, his scene his part of the movie is one of the most deeply disturbing, creepy moments of the movie and also eye opening for Jessie. There's this one scene where these rebel snipers are talking to the small group of photo journalists and one sniper makes a comment saying basically nobody is giving them orders, they just out pretty much doing their own thing shoot or shot kind of thing. The ending, not sure how some people are going to respond, react, feel about the ending of this movie.

My personal thoughts towards Bob Marley: One Love
17 February 2024
Well looking over the other reviews by other IMDB users, I can tell lot of people have mixed feelings on this Bob Marley movie. Well, I saw this movie yesterday afternoon at a 3:40 showing, my theater wasn't packed, but their was quite a lot of people watching it with me. First I want to say I thought Kingsley Ben-Adir did a very good performance as Bob Marley, thought he captured his mannerisms, his personality, I think Kingsley Ben-Adir portrayed Bob Marley to the best of his acting ability I think. Lashana Lynch does in my mind a really great performance as his wife, Rita, whos a strong supporter to Bob Marley in almost everything he does, who's by his side quite a lot, or in his band, or coming to a studio to support him, to help him along making a new album, she's by his side through the most difficult, hardest, painful moments, to the good moments as well. There's this one scene in the movie, where Rita, and Bob Marley have a heart to heart outside of the a fancy club, where Rita calls out all of the stuff she has put up with, all the stuff she knows Bob Marley has been doing that may not be helpful to their relationship, and you can tell despite their somewhat conflicted relationship , they still love, care for each other. To be honest I am not completely knowledgeable about everything Bob Marley, know some of his songs, and know he is a very influential person and a few things about him. I did not know that their was an attempt on his life, well I saw that in the trailers, but I didn't know that before the trailers. Some people may not like how the movie, is not a straight up by the numbers biopic, actually I personally like how they do show some scenes from his younger past, younger Bob Marley meeting Rita, forming his band , and other moments that happened when he was younger, I had no issue with them going back to those moments in different parts of the movie. The movie starts off in 1976 in Jamaica during two political parties struggling, fighting against each other, and that's where the movie starts. Then goes through his , decision to leave Jamaica and the escalating violence during that time, and travel to Europe and then after making a new album , he eventually returns to Jamaica. Overall I thought they did a really good job with this movie about Bob Marley. I had no issues with the movie.

Migration, a pretty fun movie to take the family to
26 December 2023
I'll admit it, even though I am in my early 30s, I still enjoy watching animated movies, and animated shows. Sometimes I think there are certain things with animated films that can't be done with live-action movies, or maybe I'm wrong on that. Anway, Ok, Migration, the duck movie, or is it mallards the preferred word? No idea, not exactly an expert on ducks here, , anyway, I just saw it at my local movie theater, went to a 11:55 am showing, and I'll say this, I felt actually surprised. Does this movie do anything groundbreaking or anything that changes the landscape of animated movies going forward? No. However, I genuinely enjoyed it. Ok, maybe the plot is kind of simple, a few members of a duck family, including the mother duck wants to migrate, to explore the world, to see more outside their pond and see what more whats beyond her pond. The Dad duck, Mack voiced by Kumail Nanjiani , he has so many good lines in this movie. Mack is not really willing or wanting to explore anything behind his pond, his known "comfort zone." The mom duck , Pam, and their kids, Dax, and. Gwen help Mack understand reason they have to. And what happens next is a journey of encounters with friendly or not friendly other animals along the way, madcap adventures, getting lost a few times, along the way, an accidental visit to New York City and a wise-cracking pigeon leader, and so much more, which I promise I will not spoil for anybody who does decide to go see this in the movie theater. I personally had a good time watching it, made me smile, made me laugh, the animation is very good, I like the characters. Danny DeVito voices Uncle Dan, he is such a very funny, caring older Uncle and he usually says whatever comes to mind, he has some good lines too. Elizabeth Banks as Pam, mother duck , is a character who longs to explore a world outside her pond, and wants to have more experiences than just being stuck in one place, I liked her character quite a bit. Dax is a pretty awesome character, he is the younger duck, who keeps wanting to help his Dad and keeps wanting to explore try new things no matter the risk , but keeps getting told, not help, to mostly stay out of the way, until something he does at the end, not going to say anymore on that. And Gwen , is the sister, to Dax, oh my goodness, Gwen is super charming, a huge highlight of the movie I think. Gwen has this moment later in the movie, where she goes to her brother, Dax, and gives him a hug, and keeps hugging him, to comfort her brother, after Dax walks away from his family after something happens. It felt like something an actual sister would do to help comfort her brother, I think. Overall really enjoyed it, wasn't really excepting much going in to see it, felt genuinely surprised, very heartfelt and just a fun good movie. Two thumbs up. Or two webbed feet up?

I think I should rank the animated movies I have seen this year,

1: Boy and the Heron 2: Across the Spider-Verse 3: Migration 4: Teenage Turtle Mutant Turtles Mayhem 5: Super Mario.

My honest thoughts after seeing it
26 December 2023
I remember watching the first Color Purple movie with Whoopi Goldberg awhile back, though to be honest , I didn't exactly remember everything that happens in that movie. Remembered the core of the story though, it being about two sisters and the hardships and struggles they deal with over the years. II haven't read the book or seen the musical, heard the musical might do a few things different than this new movie. This new Color Purple movie, is an emotional gut punch, that will make you feel sad, then joyous, then make you want to tear up, wow. There are so many really heartbreaking, really bad situations that happen to, Celie, the sister we follow through her life journey after something happens to her sister, Nettie. Fantasia Barrino as older Celie, and Danielle Brooks as Celie's daughter-in-law, Sofia, these two did in my mind did outstanding performances. Sofia is not afraid whatsoever to stand up to those who would abuse her and also not afraid to stand up to a certain town official wife. Which Celie learns from. Sofia comes across as someone who cares for Celie as a true friend, wants to help Celie get away from abusive situation she's stuck in by telling Celie to respect the woman she is, respect her value and not stand for her man laying a hand on her anymore. Fantasia Barrino as Celie, I feel gives an amazing heartfelt, performance that is deeply filled with raw emotion, anger, frustration, and yearning to find more out of life, to make her own mark, to not be defined by what people say she has to stick with. Danielle Brooks as Sofia, in my mind has a commanding performance whenever she pops up , her performance is just powerful , it hits you right in the gut, just wow, you can feel all of her feelings when she sings. This new Color Purple movie really impressed me. I liked the songs they sang in here. Taraji P. Henson as Shug Avery I thought did a really good performance, she also tries to reach to help Celie , tries to show her things, new things, and stands by Celie's side like a sister. Colman Domingo as Mister is very solid performance and lot of the times I felt uncertain feeling of unease when his character enters a room , his character does so many horrible things to Celie, kind of made certain parts uneasy to watch. Though certain things change with certain characters towards the end. I feel that this movie is a very solid movie, very well made I think. One of the best movies that I have seen this year I think . Yes there are horrible, terrible things that are done to lot of characters in this movie , a lot of hurtful things done to Celie and other main characters , really bad situations that characters get in, though there also joyous moments that happen, moments of forgiveness, and characters have to learn to stand up those who would hurt them and move on away from that and try to build a new life with a group of friends , a sisterhood that reaches out to help through the hurt, with fresh starts away from the pain and hurt done to them by those who were suppose to be there for them. The musical aspect I really enjoyed. Hope this film gets a lot of awards recognition.

I have a lot of mixed feelings on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom
22 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I saw at at a 3:00 showing at my local movie theater, and I have mixed feelings towards this movie. To be honest, went in with zero expectations for this movie. And well, I feel one of the giant negatives I have for Aquaman and Lost Kingdom is like you say the tone of the movie is just all over the place. It goes from totatly goofball , moments of just ridiculousness to the max , moments of absurdity with over the top goofiness. Jason Moma's Arthur/ Aquaman for most part is that frat guy who all he wants to do is just party it up all day, and just be totally goofy, and crack jokes. Don't get me wrong, I'm not against goofy moments or comedy in a superhero movie at all, I just believe that a balance is highly needed/essential between silly moments and more serious moments to make for a better movie, to strive for a more coherent movie that isn't bouncing all over the place with conflicting tones that don't match up when the serious moments in Aquaman 2 do happen , they are in my mind ; hardly given any time at all to sink in or to actually work for the movie's benefit, I think, my two cents. There is some effort to try for some serious character work on Arthur, when him and his dad are talking about , Arthur being an only child, its just I felt, the few moments where things are getting more serious, non jokey, I feel are not given enough time to take any weight for somebody to care about them, when they do happen in this movie. Some of the humor didn't land for me, the thing with the bug I didn't like at all, wasn't sure why they had to add that. Another thing that bothered me is, Manta being controlled by somebody else. Really wanted Aquaman 2 to be just be Manta versus Aquaman show, liked how he did Manta in the first movie alot, and wanted him to bring that same level of high caliber awesome Manta , revenge story , exploring more of Manta's character along the way. We did get quite a bit of awesome Manta moments in this movie, just hoping he was the central villain, instead of him being possessed by something else. I liked the new creatures , monsters, their design, look I thought was really interesting. Some of the story, lot of the story just fell flat for me, maybe it was because the over the top goofy stuff, made me take the story less serious. The new worlds they show were something i liked. Kind of got attached to that blue octopus that kept following Aqauman around through most of the movie. Oh and another thing I liked was the fight scenes between Manta and Aquaman, thought those were done really well, I thought they were. The scientist character was ok, his part in the movie, I didn't have an issue with. Liked that part where the scientist character is going into an ice cave and then a monster pops up out of nowhere , grabbing one of the guys, really felt the suspense during that part, really dug that scene.

My personal thoughts towards Boy and the Heron
21 December 2023
I'm going to start off by saying, I have seen this movie twice, both times at my local movie theater I watched it in Japanese with subtitles, and I felt amazed, confused, and I felt for the struggles of the main character, Mahito, who deeply misses his mother after something tragic happens to her. I felt invested in this movie from start to the end. Mahito is kind of subdued, he doesn't say much during a good chunk of the movie at the start. Mahito and his father and new mother move to a house in countryside outside of Tokyo, that's where he first meets a mischievous, heron, who you can't quite tell if he is a friend to Mahito or what he is actually up to, for me it seemed like The Heron's true intentions kept changing, shifting throughout the film. The Boy and Heron covers lot of topics, grief, dealing with loss of a loved one, the trauma dealing with that, and how to come to a point , where you try to keep living and trying to enjoy life still, still deaing with the hurt, that Mahito is dealing with, from his dreams of his mother in the fire. The animation in this movie is just superb, top notch. I like computer animated films. However the hand drawn amination in this movie to me, has a like a storybook look to it, which makes it extra special I think. Yes there are parts of this movie, that don't make sense, that are lot of odd, strange things that take place when The Heron takes Mahito to another world for a certain reason. That other world they visit, is really beautifully animated. Lots of scenes would like to replay when I own this on digital. Some terrifying moments happen , some really strange happenings take place. I think this movie is worth seeing. For any fans of Studio Ghibli past films or fans of original animated movies that take you on journey full of strange characters and a movie that has strong emotional weight to it, I recommend., two thumbs up.

Very Impressed by this Godzilla movie
4 December 2023
Ok, I'm going to start off by saying, I'm not a big fan of the Godzilla lore. I have not seen a lot of the Godzilla movies. I've seen a few before, but nothing that really stuck out to me. Decided to see this in the theater today, because I have heard a lot of good reviews on it from different people. This movie is really really good. The people behind making this Godzilla movie looks like they put lot of heart and love and work and passion to getting this made, taking things back to basics maybe. The human characters, wow, just wow. You know, in alot of these types of films, the monster doing the smashing is the main setup, and a lot of times, the human characters are not even that interesting at all. But in Godzilla Minus One, the human characters , the main character, Koichi Shikishima, is a very compelling interesting character dealing with past trauma, guilt, and a desire to escape his mistakes. The other main characters are also very interesting, and you feel that you care about what happens to them. From the the start of the movie to the very end, I was totally invested, cared about the other characters stories , and wondering how they were going to survive. Godzilla's design I really liked here quite a bit. Godzilla in this is a total force of nature, a primal ,killing, wrecking machine. Very very curious to see if this filmmaker will continue with another Godzilla movie, if he does, I'm definitely watching that too.

My thoughts on Next Goal Wins
19 November 2023
Saw this movie shortly after getting off work, and I personally enjoyed it. I feel like lately, people either love or totally dislike a movie, there's no middle ground, of a movie just being fine. Everybody is going to have their own opinion, no need to hate on somebody for liking a movie you didn't like. Oscar Kightley is one of the standouts in this movie for me, going to be honest. Not familiar with this actor at all, looking at his IMDB page , he's done a lot of mostly TV work, but Oscar Kightley role in Next Goal Wins , I felt really invested in his character, Tavita, who just wants to see the American Samoa team have a chance og being somewhat successful, even if they only get one goal kicked in, that would be major cause for a conga line for him. He has so many good lines to Michael Fassbender's Rongen, like the line he told Fassbender's Rongen, about marinating, giving the soccer players a chance to be their best selves. Kaimana's role as Jaiyah I felt was also very heartfelt with what was given to Jaiyah, you cared about that character, from someone who hasn't been in another movie, very good job. Fassbender I thought did a pretty job performance as a coach who has a history of coming up short and keeps getting fired at different jobs, kept thinking he was going to leave the American Samoa soccer , I'm gone, they won't listen to me, but kept guessing wrong. I chuckled at parts, some parts made me smile, I liked it.

The Marvels (2023)
7/10
my thoughts on it after seeing it
10 November 2023
Just got out of the theater a few hours ago. Some say saying this is a not a good movie, even one reviewer on Youtube said this the worst MCU film ever. Is it a perfect film? No, there are few small things ,its little uneven at times. However I feel, the relationship, the chemistry between Captain Marvel, Miss Marvel, and Monica is one of the strongest points of the film in my mind. Iman Vellani as Miss Marvel is in my mind one of the best additions to the MCU in recent years , she is full of such loveable charm, charisma, and a genuine spark of radiant innocence, along with so much heart and warmth to her character, you want to see more of her in other projects. Larson's Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel seems to get more layers to her character here, more emotional depth, than that's been shown before I think. The villain is very one note, honestly, she's in my mind not truly evil, she is just trying to do a certain thing, to help her people from the planet she lives on, and the way she is going about is questionable. Nick Furry is interesting to be shown in more of a jokey way, he really doesn't have much to do. Lady playing Monica thought did pretty well, as said before to me the strongest part of the movie, is the three main ladies playing Miss Marvel, Captain Marvel, and Monica Rambeau, their interactions, their back and forth, their chemistry together I feel is the best part of the movie. I feel if you go watch a movie in the theater and enjoy it, have a good time watching it, that's what counts. Some things in The Marvels may not work for some people, or some jokes may not land or some parts may not work for some people, but thats ok.
