captain art-house
26 April 2005
this is a visually spectacular masterpiece, but i beg to ask the question is there any possibility of taking the term art house to an extreme and then redecorating the art house once more in extravagant and even decadent/opulent stylings.the great and extremely talented mister peter greenaway is doubtless to say in my mind a true and very talented genius un surpassed in his film-making techniques, however i must ask ???????????? what the hell is going on inside that mind...... (those toys where does he get those wonderful toys?) probably not one for those of us who are not pseudo intellectuals or rabid l.s.d freaks............

Bruce Campbell is the king of b-grade
11 January 2005
this movie is sticky ,this movie is flubbery, with a six pack of beer this movie is better than great it's better than bad, it's damn near good. without ruining any of the plot or story here, yes there is one; view the first evil dead movie/s and realize how great a director Raimi is and how much of an epic performance that Bruce Campbell ,in my mind the king of b-grade actors (Brisco County Jr anyone?), can actually pull off in a mugging! "Campbell is King,Cambell is KING!"

this one's got it all, adventure, action, romance and a huge great block of really smelly cheese and of course my favourite thing in this genre, those tremendous one liners, "where does he get those fabulous one liners from.........."

My God I enjoyed this movie when I was 8
10 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
In 1989 here in NZ wrestling was somewhat of a mega-hype phenom, and who was steering starship at the pinnacle was the orange goblin himself, HULK HOGAN (one of my uber-heroes at this time), so it seems obvious to me now why I adored this movie in 1989-90 when it came out here. HULK HOGAN A.K.A Terry Bollea is a shockingly bad actor and Zeus A.K.A Tiny Lister is worse!!! The story line follows a standard WWE (then WWF) circa 88-91 story line culminating in the standard good guy beat down, hulk up and then get beaten down again story line only to follow that the good guy calls on all his inner strength( gained from eating vitamins, saying prayers etc etc ) to mount the epic come back..... Pretty standard formula here. Worth watching if only for reminiscing your youth!!!!

Kurt Russell is the king of pseudo tough guys
10 January 2005
John Carpenter has truly created a masterpiece here, with the king of pseudo tough guys in the lead role, performed to perfection by the king of pseudo tough guy actors himself Kurt "the king of pseudo tough guys" Russell.....

The lead heroes name is Jack ,I really think that says it all, martial arts, tough ass hombres, roving maniac gods stealing Asian girls with green eyes to appease big gods of the east, and a truck driver named Jack Burton (what a tough-guy name). Slick one liners steal this one and the action is great, coupled with the smugness eschewed by the obvious pseudo serious imitation of actioneers this is of the all time greats in my books. Really worth a six-pack of cheap (or expensive) beer and the rental cost of a DVD, and I am extremely jealous that my uncles got to see this one on the big screen.....
