Stowaway (2021)
Awful
I've just finished watching this film.
The sound track is terrible, the acting is poor, the storyline makes no sense. There is no purpose to this film.
It goes from boring to very boring.
The Witches (2020)
Pretty bad remake
My daughter loved the movie however the start put her off. It was just a bunch of words on the screen before the story actually begins.
I love Anne Hathaway but her accent was awful and cringe worthy. The acting was poor however suitable for children. I wouldn't say this was a family movie. Simply a movie for kids to watch while you do something else. The CGI at times is frustrating and some scenes do not make any sense what so ever.
Let the kids watch this.... But don't expect to enjoy it with them.
And the end doesn't seem like an end and is like a 30 year skip (another scene thar doesn't make sense) & unanswered questions.
The One (2021)
Great show
The show is great if you haven't read the book.
So I watched the show 9/10... Then I read the book and by page 2 I concluded this show has not done the book justice!
The show is great, the concept is good very much like a black mirror episode but arced over 8 episodes.
As this is based on a book I had to remove some marks as it fails in this season to address almost any of the issues presented in the book.
The show is enjoyable the acting is of decent quality, the pacing is mostly good, the concept is great and hopefully it will be fleshed out more in later seasons.
However as an adaptation it is very poor and strays a little too far from what has made the original source such a great read.
Final say.... only watch if you have not already read the book.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Watchable
I watched this movie, it has some really fantastic music, calming and inspirational backing track.
G.C as Augistine was interesting to watch, If you are happy watching a movie that when it ends you are confused about what the point of the movie is, and with a bunch of unanswered questions you will love it.
Other than that its just a slow paced apocalypse/austraunaught movie that offends no one.
Daybreak (2019)
Get past the first episode and you'll enjoy it.
This show was made for teens, with all its teen dramas and a boy searching for his love.
This show has a lot of movie references and homages which is great watching for the adults. Its not too serious but their are deep messages in there.
People who don't like the end, didn't get the deeper messages hidden throughout the show.
Simply put... It's a bunch of hormonal teenagers that survive an apocolypse, their thoughts, their past and what it takes for them to survive with no adults. It is not supposed to be mature but maturing.
Another Life (2019)
Entertaining
I was entertained by this show but it could have been a lot better
If your going to watch this show beware its a bunch of Adults who act like hormonal teenagers with the exception of William (AI) and Niko (Captain?), who have been chosen to find out if the Aliens/Alien tech that has landed on earth is peaceful by sending them into space to find the Aliens home planet.
The crew are supposed to be top in their field, best of the best but they are probably not, as they are for unknown reasons very unprofessional, constantly horny and obviously can easily be replaced by better more knowledgeable, experienced and astute scientists.
Katie Sachkoff (Niko) does an amazing job with her script, she looks fantastic as does the crew but we are missing the lovable not traditionally pretty crew members.
There is too much focus on Niko that we are unsure why any of the other charachters exist except to annoy her however that being said. There is some fun scenes and some interesting but rushed developments.
Don't expect too much from this show but it will entertain you even if its shouting ar the screen "oh come on".
The effects are okay, it could be better, this is star trek meets battle star, meets this is us, meets, 3 below (who are more mature cartoon characters), meets sense8 (if you know you know).
I personally hope theres season 2, but with equal concentration and back story on all charachters and they slow down on the unnessesary and silly sex scenes that don't make sense. I would like to know where they are going with the story's presented as I am intrigued with the nonesense.
6 stars as I watched it... however I did watch it with no sound, subtitles and skipped through the boring flashbacks
Ocean's Eight (2018)
Not great
Having loved the previous oceans 11 trilogy, and this was female cast I was hoping for more.
The down fall of this starts off because I can only assume the filmed this with cold colour scheme so it's not full of the brightness we are used to.
There are some laugh out loud moments but not enough to carry the film.
The best part of the film was the actual heist but even that was boring.
So here's my issue: one missing the suspense from the actual target. Yeah they framed the ex .... But if he knew they were trying to set him up some how and putting preventive measures in place more interesting story.
The actress who was the jewelry bearer was involved (I didn't see that coming)... So why bother get someone else to sneak off the jewels ... They could have took it off themselves.... Why on earth would she include herself anyway? Why would they still bother put stuff in her food? Made no sense and they should have shown how they roped her in when they filled us in about the whole heist. They steal a whole heap of jewellery and pretty much just throw that in at the end which is cool... Because while everyone is busy being checked they stealing the whole exhibit of jewels but they don't seem to give us hints that something else is going on which is probably adds as to why the film is so boring, there's no real suspense and no real secrets with the smarter audience.
Hopefully they will learn from the mistakes in this film and do another one because the premise is good. The actors did an okay job with the appalling script.
But I do feel conned .. should have been a straight to TV. I would have appreciated it more
Sense8: Amor Vincit Omnia (2018)
One of the best finales
I have never seen an end to a series and been satisfied. It has been a beautiful show about inclusiveness shot literally across the world and the beauty that is the world in which we live. This rushed finale is not without its flaws but it was made for us, it attempted to give us so much about what we loved about the show and why we loved the show.
You can forgive all holes and getting lost in it all because you hope in the amazement of it all, and in its teaching somehow somewhere we get another season.
With the time restraints, with all that this show is and has become they couldn't have done a better job! So bitter sweet I say thank you for the experience.
Pan (2015)
Best Pan Movie.
This is without a doubt the most enjoyable pan movie I have come across. I have just reached home from the cinema, and want to go back so I can watch it all over again.
I was able to watch this film in 3D boy did it stimulate my acrophobia, there was some view and angles from some amazing heights that I literally held my breath at times,
The film had some truly amazing sets, and scenery with a melody of vibrant colors and musicality from you entered into Neverland, with the aforementioned heights and the displays of camera movements to fully embrace the dreamy state of it all was beautifully done
It was great to see this rendition of Peter pan answering such questions as,why Pan is able to fly? and why he has so much confidence?
Pan ended with you (me) wanting more, needing to find out what happened between Pan and Hook.
It has everything you want in a family movie.
The only down side in my opinion (not the strange songs that didn't seem to fit because I did sing along in the cinema), but the natives? who actually looked like a bunch of kidnapped Londoners who escaped and put on colorful native clothing.... They didn't look native at all.
I need it to do better, because ... I need Pan 2.
The Martian (2015)
Enjoyed it throughly
I think this is the first ever astronaut movie I've seen where no one dies.
The movie has good comedy and a predictable outcome despite my initial comments, however getting from A-B is beautifully done.
Matt Damon done a fantastic job,and his performance stood out against all others through his humour and video logs.
There is a couple of questionable performances by some of the supporting staff, however they don't take up too much of the screen time.
Its great to watch Watney figure out how not to starve, by making produce on a barren planet, then its all most heart broken to see it all blow up. Don't think he will eat potato again.
Bottom line. Its a good movie and is well worth the watch.
Minions (2015)
Mini no
I found this movie was really bad.
The whole of the movie is questionable from the start, but while sitting in the movie with my impressionable young children i had to wander what foolishness is going into their minds.
My 2 children 10 and 4 years respectively, didn't laugh or chuckle once during the film, but they did say they enjoyed it. I wanted to walkout of the theater 10 minutes into the film, but I had just shelled out £25, and I had taken my kids.
You get the history of the minions, followed by attempted torture and attempted murder (which happens a lot in kids films to be fair), but this just felt ghastly.
This film was given a 5 only because the kids did say they enjoyed it, but I can not think of anything nice to say about the film, and on my own it would have a 1/10!
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)
Boring
I really enjoy MI series, however this one felt like it was missing all the things that make it interesting.
I miss the comedic scenes, the suspense that is mixed with humour, the interesting gadgets that help get you into an impossible place also the interaction between the team members also absent.
In the end I felt I could have watched the British woman all day, and had no interest in anything else, the rest was irksome.
Do NOT waste your money to buy or go to the cinema just wait until its on TV and the adverts/commercials will give you more suspense!!
Bottom line: Its the worst in the series!
Annie (2014)
If your not prejudiced you will find it OK, nice family movie!
This film is not the best, but its okay and enjoyable.
If you are racist, or have an issue with Annie being portrayed as a black child... Do NOT watch.
This is not a film based on real life, its based on a musical and not a specific persons real life, so I personally think its okay in this circumstance to be played by different ethnicity, personally Id like to see a little Chinese or Indian Annie now.
The way this has developed from the 1982 version is actually interesting, it could have been reprised in a much more outstanding way, but never the less it is still watchable and thoroughly enjoyable for its target audience.
Will you like it more than the 1982 or straight to film 1999 version, probably not, however there are many laugh out loud moments when you leave all preconceptions, and prejudice conceptions at the door of the Theater.
The Giver (2014)
Barely watchable
Watched this movie into parts as i feel asleep during it. but when i woke up i resumed watching it.
The film was basically equilibrium with a younger person, and I've only just found out it was based on what was possibly a good book.
The film moved to fast i felt there wasn't enough build up, or narrative for the memories that where passed down to be of any effect. and no understanding given of how memories are all in one person. it makes no complete sense that bit, the film makes it seem like they where ordinary people.
When watching this film you feel that important bits are missed. Yes we are intelligent people and we can work out things for ourselves, but i wasn't watching a mystery. This was a dramatic dystopian film, without all the feelings of the drama.
I feel the actors where all good, given what they were working with. However this film hasn't encouraged me to read the book, but quite frankly put me off... But it does make me want to watch equilbrium again
Branded (2012)
watch on DVD, with friends and alcohol.
there are no spoilers or plot lines in this review.
I was intrigued by the strangeness of the film, but the film is awful.
However if you like to think about advertising and how it affects people, This could be an interesting film to watch.
You have to have an open mind, and be into conspiracies and understand media to get any satisfaction out of this film.
Before you watch this film, whether in theatres (which I would advise against), or on DVD. The question you have to ask yourself, why am I going to see this film?? What made me choose this film???.... Then you just might get enjoy the awfulness of it a little more.
