The Negotiator (1998)
8 of 10, but definitely not for the plot.
When I first had this movie in my hands I was so exited. Two of my favorite actors and my favorite composer in the same movie! But boy, was I bored with the plot. First of all: what happened to "in Dubio Pro Reo"? And what kind of a lawyer is this? I think I'd fire him at once.
And then the very minimal story itself. OK, it's just a cop flick, not a mystery masterpiece like "The Usual Suspects", but why waste so many good opportunities for interesting sub plots?
Another thing I didn't expect because of the title of the movie (wich I find rather unfitting): Whenever there is some interaction between characters, and I'm starting to think "now we're getting' somewhere" *BAM* another action scene nullifies the previously build up suspense. Don't get me wrong - I like action in a movie and a cop flick is supposed to have those scenes, but not like this.
Then I thought it was going to be another "Die Hard", when the building appeared on screen - at least I was untroubled by this. But I think I'll volunteer for a lobotomy before watching another (new) big bucks cop movie made in Hollywood.
So the 8 points I voted where mostly for the excellent job of the actors (main and support) when they get a chance to show their talent and the score.
Roomies (2004)
Just milking the cash cow.
Oh boy.. This movie is so mediocre I don't really know what exactly to write about it.
I think it's easier to write what it's not:
It's not very entertaining. It's not original. And there's not one character in the whole movie I cared about.
Kind of reminds me of a certain reality TV show on MTV, but without any interesting people. It just drags on and on and I could hardly wait for it to end. The only thing that kept me from switching it off was Jennifer Lyons (c:
I thought a long time about this movie to find one good thing to say about it. What I liked was the reminder not to judge a person by the first impression you get (as Holly did when she accused Nicole) which earns it a score of 2 out of 10 instead of a 1.
