The Vast of Night (2019)
Monsters Are Due on Maple Street
A slow build of erie atmosphere that puts your imagination to work for 99% of the runtime rather than spoon feeding us sci fi CGI the whole way. Entirely agree that any fan of B&W Twilight Zone will appreciate this one.
The Good Place: Live Panel Discussion (2020)
Like a wave returning to the ocean..
Not gone.. just changed. Well.. still gone. But what an end. The rare show with a complete arch from beginning, middle to end and what an end. Nothing will ever beat Maya Rudolph as the judge this season. Cept maybe Timothy Olyphant playing Justified/Timothy Olyphant with Maya Rudolph.
Mr. Robot: 407 Proxy Authentication Required (2019)
First a theory.. then two actors stealing the scene from each other with every volley'd line.
Am I the only one that thought Elliot himself was going to be revealed as the third personality also manufactured that day of his childhood to take over for a broken child that decided to step back never to step forward again? It would explain his lack of clarity to the prior events and how he could forget his childhood with Darlene. Also Mr Robots promise to the other personalities that he would finally tell Elliot something big after the hack..
Rewatching the episode expecting I was going to fast forward to Elliot and Veras can't turn away back and forths. The quirks, tight shots on the actors repeated facial, physical and verbal tics just pull you in as if you were a background witness to a personal intimate a stage like setting punctuated by thunder rolling and building. The entire episode builds and I found myself having rewatched and even rewinding some scenes. Just insane storytelling primarily sold by Vera and Elliot's performances. Just jaw dropping and heart wrenching and painful at times.
Origin (2018)
The Thing
Dont pay any mind to the hate. Not fully through it yet but six in on a binge and this show spared no expense. Solid character driven with an amazing cast to back it. Top notch set design and CGI. Hits all the right notes for a sci-fi, horror and suspense. This should be enough to reel in any fan of sci fi but I wasn't even aware of this show til I happened on it by chance. Only half way through but already wanting a season 2
