After watching so called blockbuster movies like Barbi and Oppenheimer which I was so disappointed In, except for Barbi as I had no expectations for this movie. It was so satisfying and refreshing to see a film like this. This film went back to the basics of being based on a good story, fine acting, a bit of drama, a bit of comedy and a conclusive satisfying ending. There was no over the top so called clever editing jumping from one time line to another, good clear performances by Kathy Bates and Maggie Smith, and although with an Irish accent were easy to understand as diction was clear and well delivered. Certainly the feel good movie of the year.

Oppenheimer

A great story told very badly
2 August 2023
Another film where the director is " Hey look at me how clever I am" Starting the movie from the middle of the story , then going back to start and back to the middle, short scenes , continually cutting from one scene to another, as if you were watching the trailer. Cringeworthy sex scenes, I really don't want to see a naked man sitting in a chair talking to a naked woman. The film is set in the black and white era of the 30's and 40's so why did we need to alternate from black and white to color? A let down in so many areas and gets drawn out to a 3 hour yawn feast. Had I not gone with friends I would have walked out after 30 minutes. Only saving grace was some good acting performances which is the reason for the two stars. There are many excellent documentaries on Oppenheimer and would certainly recommend you watch one of them instead of this movie.
Money Heist

Downhill after season 2
5 September 2021
They tried to Milk this show for all it was worth. Yes season 1 & 2 were ok, but that should have been it. Watched season 5 episode 1 out of curiosity and I had no idea what was happening, just went head first with no recapping, a big mistake.
Ratched

More holes than Swiss cheese
30 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Had high expectations, but didn't take long to see them nosedive.since when is a lobotomy done with just a drill, simultaneously on four patients, absolutely ludicrous. Mental institutions in this era were nothing but dirt holes , not luxurious accommodations like this. In fact the story line is so ludicrous it actually becomes a comedy.
Dirty John

Season one 8/10 Season two 1/10
19 August 2020
Watched two episodes of season 2, and just couldn't take anymore. Hard to work out what was going on. Camera work enough to give you motion sickness, jumping every few minutes from from one time era to another. Could have been a good story, but ruined by director trying to be too clever.
The Morning Show

Very American
6 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the first 15 minutes, Reece Witherspoon throws a tantrum, Steve Carell throws a tantrum, Jennifer Ainston throws a tantrum and some other guy a director I think throws a tantrum. That was enough for me in what appeared to me a very very American series.

How to ruin a good story
1 January 2020
The makers of this movie did their very best to ruin an excellent story. If I was not with my wife I would have left at least half way through the movie. At one stage I. Really had no idea what was going on, with all the flashbacks and forward flashing.
Sooo slow
