Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
Would be a cult classic if not for
That mask. Boy oh boy is the mask in part IV bad. And Michael in general is pretty awful too. He's wearing 80s style female should pads I think and he just moves weird and doesn't exhibit any of the greatness of the original Nick Castle of even the current Shape from James Jude Courtney.
But there are some really strong positives about this movie. Danielle Harris is excellent and it's refreshing to see a horror movie not rooted in teenage angst. Dr. Loomis is still in his bag. And the ending is EXCELLENT! I wish they would have left Michael dead at this ending.
But even with the good aspects of the movie Michael and his mask are pretty atrocious. All in all it's a solid 6/10.
Halloween: Resurrection (2002)
Worst of the franchise
Not only is this easily the worst movie of the whole franchise but it's probably in the conversation as one of the worst movies I've ever seen period. Plot holes, bad acting, bad dialogue, super cheesy script, bad directing. It's got it all!
I will say this- the mask is an improvement from the ones we got in the thorn trilogy movies. If we could sub this mask for part IV's that movie would be in a whole other category. But I digress. Resurrection stinks. Stinks to high Heaven.
The Undoing (2020)
I really wanted to like The Undoing
The first episode started off fantastic. I was in. Then I watched episode 2. Then #3. And you get the point. But each episode was slightly worse than the one preceding It until when I finally watched the finale it was like- that's it? That's the shabang?
So long story short, I give this 5/10 stars. It had its moments of intrigue and entertainment but it also slowed down to a snails pace and had questionable (Nicole Kidman) acting as the series went on.
The Last Waltz (1978)
It's the G.O.A.T
Easily the best musical documentary ever made IMO. It's history, it's art, it's beautiful.
If you haven't watched it do yourself a favor you won't regret.
Halloween (2018)
Pleasantly Surprised
I'm not into horrors or slashers really at all but for some reason I've binged the whole Halloween series from 1978 to this newest addition. The original obviously being an all-timer but the rest of the sequels are, well.... not so good.
But this 2018 sequel had a great feel to the original- it made you feel like this really was connected to the original events 40 years ago. Good story, good suspense, and really good performances from the cast- especially Jamie Lee Curtis.
All that combined easily makes this the best sequel of the series.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Extremely rewatchable!
The movie has less to do with the Manson murders as much as it does about Hollywood history- which is great if you're into time pieces. Excellent acting, storytelling, sights and sounds. The more you watch the more you pick up on small nuances of the story. Very well done.
