Looks great, but some rough...rough writing
4 May 2024
It seems we are in a true slump of well written, believable characters in film and TV.

That's not too bad, but we also have the wonderful gift of cynicism along with this.

What that leaves us with is a combination of jaded, bitter main characters and oafish, one-dimensional villains.

How this is all packaged is; women are super badass, and men are stupid pigs.

Again, this package wouldn't be so bad if the characters were believable and/or likable.

People go on and on about how "hopeless the world is today", which I say absolute BS to that.

We have "It's a Wonderful life" for example, which was written at the height of the holocaust.

Yes, I know this is a horror movie. But I am begging for some characters to believe in so that I can feel suspense when they are in danger. Everyone in this film is just fake. Why should I care if they are in danger if they're just a fake character?

A remake made by, and for people who dislike the original
1 May 2024
I don't understand why this movie exists. At least Michael Hanake remade his own movie and copied all the shots while keeping the core idea the same.

This movie is the complete opposite of the original, and not in a good way.

It's sad that this movie is so popular because it's barely a husk of what the heart behind the original, and the book had at its core.

The original, is about an unlikely bond forming about an innocent girl who is a unwillingly a monster, and a evil boy who is willingly becoming a monster.

This remake is the opposite, and it's so silly. Why would a boy want to hang out with an evil vampire girl? And why is the girl insisting on them "not being friends", but still pursuing the boy's friendship?

Why are the parents all of a sudden getting a divorce in this version? Does the director not know that evil CAN spawn from a perfectly fine family? This is what makes an evil character arc interesting.

It's just a shallow, loud and obnoxious horror movie that would be OK if it didn't just crap all over the original and the book. Well done America.

A great concept with some rough....rough execution
8 April 2024
The other day I explained the main plot tension of this movie and I found myself laughing hysterically when talking about some of the reveal scenes.

It really is a great concept, and I can imagine being in the room during the pitch for this.

I love the earnestness Matthew brings to this movie, and I do think the humor almost makes it. It's an absurdist movie with a great comedic cast.

But man, it's a rough time for a lot of the movie. I suspect this movie got ravaged by production woes during the pandemic, so I have a lot of empathy for the cast and crew.

It feels like a real movie, held back by budget or restrictions (unlike a lot of "covid" movies, where you can see the 6-ft rules in place)

I think with another pass on the script, and some more extras (bruh moment when you see the cardboard extras at the end), this would be a really good indie comedy/anti-comedy

I appreciate this movie. It's fun to talk about, but I can't recommend it unless you love the cast or noticing production mistakes in movies (digital extras with green-screen effects)

Endearing and unique
26 July 2023
People who rated this movie a 1 are insane. This movie is great and is at least trying something unique

This is a bonafide hood classic. It has a lot of problems, but it is earnest in it's twist on the vampire romance genre

I champion the single vision directors out there, and we are sadly in the age of studios mass producing 7/10 movies for profit.

Vitaly has aimed high and not really hit the mark here, but the viewing experience was unforgettable.

I don't watch movies to have a perfect experience, but I watch them to feel something.

Maybe I'm just biased to super low-budget movies, but we need more movies like this in the world.

Like Crazy (2011)

A nice change
25 November 2012
A fresh and beautifully composed film. Incredible acting and superb camera work. A nice change to see a film done by a hand-held camera and not want to throw up from the feeling of vertigo every second in the film. I saw the front cover and assumed that it was going to be one of those cheese ball B grade teen romance movies that the film industry spit out every few months. But I assure you this is something different. Though not an "exciting" film for lack of a better word....nevertheless it is teeth-grindingly frustrating in some rare moments.

Like Crazy is not a masterpiece....but a great film nonetheless.
