A Total Waste of Time
30 November 2013
One question kept popping into my mind as I left the theatre: Why can't they make a rule that if a filmmaker steals 2 hours of your life to waste them on a film that is so absurd, so inept, you can get your money back. This film is the most illogical, inconsistent piece of crap I have seen in a long time. In one scene, the hero can fight off 20 strong guys single-handedly (like int he old Ninja movies) and in the next, he can't defend himself against 4 of them. Things happen that the villain couldn't possibly have known or predicted. The ending is absurd. Just don't waste your money. Wait for it to come out on DVD and then buy the movie next to it! It has got to be better.

The Mist (2007)

Monsters invade Maine, everyone yells, no scares, audience is bored.

Warning: Spoilers
I cannot believe the rave comments I am reading on this board. This film would be laughably bad if it weren't so boring. The dialogue is downright ludicrous as were the clichéd characters. The Marcia Gay Harden character gets my vote for the most annoying character in a major movie ever. I can only imagine that the "twist" ending is there to compensate for the fact that everything that came before is extremely predictable with none of the "jumps" I had hoped for. So much of this movie is a steal from other movies -- Aliens, The Lottery, Them... You name it, it's in there. Sorry, but Stephen King is THE most overrated hack who ties in my book with M. Night Shamalayan (post the Sixth Sense). Not only is this 2 hours of my life I will never get back, but it is 2 of the most annoying hours I've spent in the theatre in a long time.

Fanny (1961)

A beautiful love triangle: boy, girl, and the sea.
30 August 2004
One of the most beautiful love stories ever made. I defy anyone to watch the scene on the wharf when Fanny and Marius confess their love for one another and not cry or watch the heart wrenching reunion scene that takes place a year later and not be moved to tears. Nope. This is a truly a great romantic film, full of charm, humor, joy and sadness. The writing is excellent. The photography is breathtaking, the score is lush and moving. The movie was made from a Broadway musical, which was adapted from a trilogy of French films by Pagnol. When it was transferred to Hollywood, the music was used as background score, adding to incredible romantic feel of the film. Joshua Logan really outdid himself in his direction of the film. It is one of my all-time favorite films.
