Equilibrium (2002)
10/10
Not "The Greatest Movie Ever," But still pretty darn good.
2 September 2004
Yes, as stated many times before, Equilibrium is an amalgam of many movies and books before it. Because of this, not despite this, Equilibrium is a pretty darn good movie. No, the concepts are not original, but I found the fleshing out of these concepts to be very good. No, it isn't an accurate view of what the future will be, but many people have come away from this movie thinking and feeling something. Maybe that is the point of it.

In addition, I found the acting superb, the action sequences quite incredible (no wires, wow,) and it made me walk away thinking.

Maybe not a classic, but a good movie, nonetheless.

Get Over It (2001)
8/10
Yes, it is a teen flick.

Out of the many, many teen flicks out there today, I find this one my favorite of them all. It stands above the rest mainly because it does not take itself seriously. In the first, oh, five minutes of the film you have: 1) A guy being sucked into a vortex when his girlfriend breaks up with him and 2) A full-on song and dance number. Yes, this movie is stupid, and it knows it.

I find the first, oh two-thirds of the movie to be amusing, but nothing really special. The last third of the movie is where the film really picks up pace and made me fall in love with it. The school play is surprisingly true to real life (at least how theatre was at my school) and the song/dance numbers are priceless. I often find myself fast-forwarding to these scenes when I don't have the time to watch the whole thing.

Good movie for when you want to shut off your brain and just enjoy mindless entertainment.

Decent movie, though not a favorite
2 September 2004
After several years of being familiar with this film, I finally broke down and rented it. I suppose I was pleasantly surprised. The movie had a better plot than I was expecting, and I was quite impressed with several of the song and dance numbers.

However, even though I am a fan of musicals in general, I found this one to be a bit laughable at times. I think it was probably due both to the obvious orchestral lead-ins to the songs, as well as the over-the-top New YAWK accents. I also found that a few of the musical numbers were strangely placed in the fabric of the story.

Besides those minor complaints, I found the movie satisfying and fun. The acting was surprisingly great from such a young cast, and I wish many of the actors had continued their acting careers after this movie. I felt that Christian Bale really shined in this film. I can honestly say I am still humming the songs.
