Where's the gold!?
31 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
In 10 years only 29 people have voted on this film. No one has reviewed it. It's about a team of robbers who ask another team to get as many men as possible for a big job going into a gold rich little marketplace (why they are so gold rich I have no idea.(.Maybe it's clearer if you speak Thai which I don't). The main two characters are a old guy with long gray hair who is able to fly and leads the main gang and is in charge of the gold they get (see any problems that might cause?)and a young guy with a scar that has a pretty girlfriend (with a baby and I thought was a hooker with a heart of gold and she says when this is over we go away and live a happy life. Can you guess what happens to her and the baby?). Of course the outlaws go in machine guns blazing cutting down cops and innocent people like one older woman begging for her life the guy pumps 4 or 5 in her. his partner says she was already dead so he says back what? Did you want to marry her? Needless to say they get away with lots of gold that gray-hair locks in a huge chest which only he has a key. Very untrustworthy other members begin to lead very angry police of which there seems to be hundreds armed to the teeth who never ask you may remain silent blah blah they just shoot to kill (Much like Abq police) So backed up by locals who also want revenge as well as their gold back they kill them until the chest is unlocked and gray-hair sees....ROCKS! Where is the gold? I'm not entirely sure here but I think young guy took it and turned into money for him and his hooker with the baby who turns up can you guess?.....DEAD! So comes the big showdown between gray-hair and young guy with gray flying up into trees 30 40 feet across jungle through the air. Young guy just shoots with both hands. Well they both end up full of bullets after missing each other using hundreds of bullets I have no idea where they got them from. Who got the gold? At this point I no longer cared. Kill a good looking woman and her baby I turn off the TV. Good night.

Huh What?
11 May 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I grew up in the sixties and seventies when LSD was used to some extent. This movie seems to be one long acid trip. There are mainly references to the Mad Max movies but none of that really matters since there is basically no real story here just a lot of images and sfx that just support a great deal of "trippy" visuals. If you start watching be prepared to be introduced to characters that have no reference to the viewer at all. A mad scientist who can destroy the future of 2035. A naked woman with nipple rings who can stop this by making out with Jack Slade a time warping guy (let's do the time warp again) who keeps going from 1998 to 2035 so he can make out with the nipple ring woman and save the world. If this makes any sense or appeals to you along with lots of sfx and "trippy" visuals then this is the movie for you. I've given it a five for the hard work the sfx people did since that stuff is excellent. But the story and some of the "acting" is just way over the top and while having all the makings of a cult movie it can only be one if you the viewers make it one. Like the movie what the future holds is up to you.

Very unique film from India
1 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I watched this with English subtitles and am not sure how precise they were. The story is about two young women in their 20's who are close friends. One of them falls in love with the other's father! The father has not been sleeping with his wife for 17 years and is what the young woman feels is "pure" making her want him badly. The father is also writing all of his wife's very successful books that are also "pure" meaning no sex violence etc which is what her publishers want. The wife has been having sexual (not love she loves her husband but he won't give her the sex she needs so badly)hookups (one is depicted and the man finds extreme happiness after the husband shows him the way to spiritual enlightenment). When the father of the young girl finally has sex with the young girl who loves him she dies in what sounds like strangulation (or is it death by "orgasm" I don't know). The daughter is pregnant by her married professor and refuses to get an abortion as it's her first baby! She explains her father is in prison for life and writing a lot but she does not know what he's writing about and her mother is suffering. The end. For me this is a most unusual film from India about erotic subject matter but there is no explicit sex on screen. The film is shot in B&W and is filled with unique camera angles and I think the writer was trying to be poetic. There are no "Bollywood" musical interludes. Very much for those seeking something very different from India.

The best show on US television
29 October 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I so very rarely give a ten to a show and this one was nine until so many Brits started saying it's trash which made it a ten for me. I don't care about the often done Holmes stories that have been masterfully done by Brits from Peter Cushing on but I do like a new American show made for us not the Brits. I hope they don't try revamps of The Hound or Study in Scarlet. This show is in NYC and has great writing that borrows Sherlock and Watson (as a woman much like M is now in the Bond series). Lucy Liu is brilliant as Watson who isn't a bumbling fool but a smart woman and a fit partner for Holmes. She also constantly challenges him much as M does Bond. I enjoy trying to solve the crimes almost as Watson does while being both an aide and a constant attempt at confidant. Most of our detective shows are almost clones of each other but this one is not. I really hope it has a long run and great ratings.

A truly awful waste of time
28 April 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I have a friend here that made a zombie movie called Stink of Flesh and it's like Dawn of the Dead compared to this mess. The "star" Keith Emerson (no not Emerson Lake & Palmer)did everything including the music which is basically him riffing on a guitar or singing dreadful "zombie" lyrics in a very atonal way.The film is in b&w and color and does have some gore including a woman biting off a guy's you know what then chewing it. But sex is only near porn not hardcore. It would not help if it was. The "actors" are more like horror fans putting on a home movie than porn actors who are nowhere near as bad as they are. I can only recommend to really bad film completest.

Blood Hunt (1981)
2/10
Father! Father!
29 January 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This movie has been on MGM HD (I don't know why it's not a Bluray or restored and only of fair quality)as Bloodhunt but there's no blood and only a little hunting. Tony De los Santos is married to Louisa and has a son named Bobby. Louisa's mother a nagging harpy lives with them and keeps after Louisa to give up her love for Tony and marry Bernard who is rich and loves her and Bobby. Tony is a smoker drinker and gambler who can't provide for his family but if he'd just stop those vices and work things would be different. When Bobby needs 10000 (it doesn't say dollars) Tony goes to his boss and they fight there's a struggle for the gun and the boss is killed. Tony gets 20 years and he tells Louisa she is free and should marry Bernard and forget about him. Bobby hears this and runs away to find his father. This 6 or 9 year old is a nightmare. Less then 10 minutes into the film he's whining and crying. He cries all through the movie. It's like nails on a blackboard. He ends up on the street and falls in with a slightly older boy and girl who beg and steal for a fat fake blind man. Bobby gets them to run away with him to his house pushing a cart as they go. A robber hides his loot in the cart and they find it. When the robber attacks the kids Tony is there to save the day. When the warden was attacked by a crazy guy with "vampire" teeth Tony saves him and gets pardoned after serving only two years. The kids give Tony the loot to get him to let them live with him. Bernard has to go to Tony after Louisa becomes ill from all the stress of losing Bobby. Tony has to try to get Bobby back to Bernard and Louisa but he won't go. When told he must he starts with the very loud crying and "Father! Father!" Tony gets involved in a big robbery and during the heist the cops with Bernard Louisa Bobby the kids all in tow show up and a gunfight ensues and Tony is shot many times in front of them all and dies. Bernard then holds out his arms and Bobby runs into them crying and saying "Father!" The end. This badly dubbed Filipino action con soap opera is a hoot. So bad it's good.Check it out.

Vampiro (2009)
6/10
A sort of latino Blade
18 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
An evil lusty vampire possibly forces himself on a Mexican woman and she has a boy who is half vampire named Casanova. When he looks about ten years old mom kills herself with a large gun. Casanova is suddenly a man and he discovers Alma who has leprosy(!?)and offers her mom and her a chance to live...as a vampire. Alma who looks about 13 years old is his companion and amor (!?). She supplies him with blood from a connection at a blood bank. Casanova says shes a hundred year old 13 year old girl. His dad has three vampires including one named Tex going after Casanova to kill him. Casanova uses a gun with wooden bullets that seems to fire over 20 rounds in order to kill vampires. When two nasty cops give Blanca and the lesbian who loves her a ride in order to do you know what to them out comes Casanova firing his gun many many times to kill the cops. He takes off with Blanca and Alma's not too happy he's spending time with her. He says they have a connection. Casanova sort of lives on a boat where the big battle takes place and Blanca gets pulled into the sea by I think her lesbian lover from before. Alma saves Casanova and they hold each other and sail away. Okay there's little to tell us just what is going on here but young people could care less why it's going on as long as there's fights and gun battles. I really don't like the strong violence against women here but again it seems to fit the style of the movie. The acting is very good especially young Alma who steals the scenes she's in. Nowhere near as gory as Blade it has enough fighting gunfire and crossbows to keep most happy. I've seen vampire movies a lot worse than this one.

Romeo and Juliet?
30 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
First I need to say that I saw this from a Bluray that claimed it was the first Telegu Bluray DVD. Now I'm an American guy and I don't speak the language or know much about India but I upped the rating a couple points because the picture and audio were both excellent and were as much responsible for enjoyment as the movie itself. The songs filled the room with surround sound and the subtitles in English were easy to read and follow. So here's the story. Balu an Indian man is coming home to tell his parents he's dropping out of college because the subjects just not for him. The parents live in a huge house right next door to an identical huge house in which lives Swapna a beautiful woman who sings about being sixteen but looks twenty-five. Her parents really don't like his parents. Of course he sees her and they both fall madly in love. This leads to lots of singing and dancing and the happiness of the couple. Balu's father and Swapna's mother are violently opposed to the love and hopes of marriage. Rather than elope the couple signs a written agreement that they will separate for a year and not see or communicate with each other in any way (internet cell phone etc etc). Swapna's mother cheats by bringing in a relative to marry her and get Balu out of the picture but Swapna loves Balu completely and will not marry the man her mother has chosen. This guy finds out about the no contact clause and takes Swapna to NYC where he knows Balu is to trick her into breaking the contract but she will not see Balu and keeps her word. Now being really angry and he goes to Balu and shows him fake pictures of him and Swapna to convince Balu that she is going to marry him. He also uses a cell phone trick to make Balu think Swapna doesn't love him anymore. So Balu gets all fired up and tells the beautiful woman he works with he loves her and wants to marry her. This gets back to Swapna but it really only angers the mother and the father who made all this happen. It all leads to everyone at the top of Niagra Falls where Balu and Swapna jump off to their deaths. But are they dead? Guess! Okay for a white guy in the U.S. this is about as realistic as a science fiction movie but it's romantic, has fun songs and dancing and beautiful N.Y.C. in high def. That was enough for me. If this sounds at all good to you you're going to want to see it.

He's got a sword Indy!
1 June 2010
Warning: Spoilers
I don't have a clue what the guy who wrote the long review saw but I'm not going to say it's not worth your time. My whole problem with the film mainly is much like the scene in Raiders where a guy with a big sword whirls it at Indy and he then just promptly shoots him! Now in this movie everyone does EVERYTHING but simply buy a huge gun and bullets. Even the guy in the wheelchair whines about killing but he could simply use a John Woo automatic and call a quick halt to these grinning thugs. In fact the woman might have done this even faster but all the elaborate acid, wires and traps well it makes for good bad movie fun but one in the forehead is faster and simpler.

Revenge of the aborted fetuses?
27 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie seems to me to be very much an imaginative way for a male to express anti abortion sentiments. While there's the long hair creepy little ghost girl better used in Japanese fright fare, most of this is about abortion plain and simple. Now if creepy little ghost girls could both kill people involved in abortions and haunt the crap out of women who they feel caused them to not just die but not be able to be reincarnated (and this is a whole lot to have to believe in)then abortion clinic wackos who murder the people who are in them have some similar folk to relate to. There's a lot going on here. A doctor whose wife paid his way through school. A nurse who is having an affair with the doctor who becomes pregnant. A big fat guy who rips off women as some sort of advice giving ghost expert. While part of the film tries to be supernatural another part acts like the woman who sees the ghost is completely bonkers. There are sort of scary moments but not anywhere near the amount or quality of the Japanese scary little girl flicks. Maybe a rental?

Excellent Shaw Bros war epic
16 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
After a proud soldier is brutally cut down with many arrows on his birthday, his wife and her family not only learning of this but also told they can do nothing by a corrupt official prepare to take all the women and many loyal men to seek vengeance and defeat the much larger male army that killed their hero. This is a terrific Shaw Bros flick not only in story acting and action but in filming on great locations with camera work that shows some great shots of countryside mountains and a terrific dam breaking sequence that engulfs part of the army of bad guys. The great cast of tiny but fierce Chinese women are not only martial artists but excellent with both spear and sword. The men who are loyal to them go so far as to sacrifice themselves to give the women a victory. Both sides are not only incredible fighters but smart and crafty in their battle plans. I really enjoyed this movie and I think anyone who wants a top notch Shaw Bros film will too. A must see.

Moz & Cat (2009)
5/10
Fun for the whole family
26 February 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is a rather long Bollywood musical that you might like to watch with your kids. While in India the star maybe Delip who plays Moz the lovable thief always trying to scam money, for Americans the star is Nivedita who is Tessi or Cat the preteen girl who Moz "steals" from orphanages. She sings and dances and mugs and cries all to the delight of anyone who loves little girls. The story around the songs and dancing is a bit complicated and has Moz falling for Nandana much to the joy of Tessi. Nandana has real troubles with her brother who has been forced onto drugs and near suicide by Panackal Daz the slimy bad guy. He wants some kind of land or something but no one cares since he is just there to be well...the bad guy. The ending brings together pretty much everyone in the cast for the final confrontation between Moz and Panackal with almost every person in danger but you know that every good family film has a happy ending and the only guy who doesn't is Panackal. And they all lived happily ever after. There isn't any great direction or camera work here, just a solid family film.

Seems very unfair to me
21 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I am American and watched a HD DVD of this with English subs. The only other review gives no reasons why this is the worst movie ever. I don't know anyone in this film but I will try to give what it is and what it's about so you can decide for yourself to watch it or not. If the title had the English translation of genie in it it might be watched by more people. Basically this is a children's film and the genie while being played by a grown man is a child himself. A bad magician with a magic wand imprisons the genie in a bottle but then loses it in the ocean and it is swallowed by a shark. The shark is bought by some members of a circus and the children there release the genie who is kind to them and takes the appearance of their "uncle" Jimmy so he can play both parts. Jimmy as the tough two fisted fighting guy is in vast contrast to the genie who as a child comes off as very mild and not at all violent. The circus owner has been stabbed to death and Jimmy is the main suspect until the genie helps to reveal the real culprit who is fairly obvious. The genie is called a "spook" and is sung about as "Spook Uncle". There are several songs that are somewhat enjoyable but I really think this is more suited to children and they are the real stars here. For some reason, maybe because children find midgets "cute" there's a midget in with all of these kids who look about 6 to 12. If this sounds like fun to you you might give the DVD a look but for most adults there's not much to look forward to here. But I've seen much worse movies than this one.

I'm a bad girl. A hussy a whore a tramp.........
23 March 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know if the film made prior to this one affects the plot as I haven't seen it but two rival girl gangs in Japan fall under the control of the male gangsters who are trying to use them for their own nefarious plans. There are cat fights galore but the men fighting reminds me of those old serials where the guys wear hats that never fall off while they break balsa wood furniture over each other's heads and do back flips over sofas. The "girls" are often topless and one gang of girls gives one hapless rival a shook up spraying Coke up a certain orifice. The women actresses take a harsh beating with what looks like a bamboo stick and one has hot candle wax dripped on her legs and upper torso. It doesn't look faked and the actresses have to have felt something during all this. The star girl boss turns out to be a surprising virgin who gives it up to the race car driver she falls in love with. I found it a bit comical to see these old 70s Japanese cars "racing" as the girl goes: "Faster! Kill me by going faster!" The 70s Toyota I owned could hardly get out of it's own way. The girl boss who isn't a virgin doesn't live to be in another sequel. The evil guy gangster dies by a huge knife that looks close to a foot and a half long. Worth a look but not as good as the best Pinky Violence films of the 70s.

Tao the Zombie Hunter
19 January 2009
Warning: Spoilers
The movie begins with the word: Infect and a dictionary definition. Then we have flashes of bloody hands and entrails ripping. Are we in Romero territory here? Well not really. After a mysterious "virus" causes most of the population to become blood drinking flesh eaters what we have is Big Steve and his band of sword and automatic weapon carrying "hunters" doing most of the military's work for them slip sliding around killing never ending bands of fast moving vampire/zombies who can be recognized by their blood all over their mouth growling behavior. Another group of not infected men and women (and everyone asks frequently: "Are you infected?") which includes a female preteen who should be too young to see this movie spends all of their time trying to get through what looks like an abandoned hospital that looks to have been under siege. At one point one of the women says: "In 24 hours the sun will come up." Why it takes 24 hours for the sun to come up was never answered. Why if they can't get to a motorized big metal gate it won't open and they will be trapped inside with lots of vampire/zombies is also never answered. But you just know large and in charge puffy faced sword flashing long coat wearing blues singing Steven Seagal will protect that little preteen girl from the evil even more bloated vampire/zombies who gently run their fingers through her hair like it's Dateline NBC. At another point in the film one of the non infected is kidnapped by a long haired Romanian guy who starts to explain in an unintelligible accent how his little preteen blonde daughter is a "new" race. The daughter then looks lustfully at the older guy who's tied up until Big Steve impales her with his great big samurai sword. OK some of you who loved the little fast moving zombie girl in the Dawn remake will like this too. It's a fun goofy bloody mixture of martial arts zombies vampires will the military kill the good guys fast paced time waster.

Well made show for young people
16 November 2008
Warning: Spoilers
I have watched 11 episodes of this Australian TV show that is made for teens or older preteens. I am from the USA and have never been to Australia and don't know very much about aborigines or the differences between people who live there. While I understand the references to the Disney film The Parent Trap I don't really see much similarity between that film and this TV show. For me I see more to compare it to an American show starring teen twins Tia and Tamara Mowry called Sister Sister. The twins are separated at birth and are surprised to find each other and learn how similar and different they are since one grew up with the mom in a lower class situation and the other grew up with the dad in a more upper class situation. Here the twins seem to have the same mother and dad but the mom is an aborigine or country person and the father seems to have a new wife and lives in the city of Sydney and there is a younger brother who is well the only way I can put it is white. The twin who lives with the father (who is white) wants to go to visit the mother she doesn't know who is out in the country so the country twin takes her place and the city twin stays out in the country after the dad brings her out to Alice Springs which is "bush" I think in Australia. All of this is very interesting to an American who really has little knowledge of any of this. For some reason I don't really understand the twins are not able to tell that they are twins since there is some kind of twins are some sort of taboo in the aborigine culture. There is also some sort of girls can't be alone with boys there too as this causes great problems for the city twin Yuma who spends time alone with a boy and raises the eyebrows of the whole community. On the other side the country twin Kyanna can't dance and causes a rift between Yuma and her dance partner. The dancing seems like a cross between something primitive and something avant garde. The last episode I watched had the very nosy brother finding out there are twins and racing to tell on the two girls. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens but I'm guessing since the kid is treated as basically a pain the parents won't believe him. I find the show very interesting and much like getting insight into Native Americans here at home who many people may not know much about I get to see a little about Native Australians that I really don't know much about. I also get to see the beauty of a country that I would very much like to visit. I only wish there was a little more time in the show to explain some of what's going on but since this is watched by Australians I figure they know so they don't need to explain something that Americans have no clue about. Families will do well to watch this.

Chinese soap opera?
17 August 2008
Warning: Spoilers
There are very few votes and no comments on this movie. Maybe everyone just assumes this is some sort of sex comedy. It's not. Amy Yip plays a hooker who rises to madam of a "health" house who takes very good care of the girls who work there. She is protected by the cops and a godfather type guy. She has a baby and the baby grows up to be a preteen who battles with mom and then I'm guessing Pauline Chan who wants to marry her mom's arch enemy some evil guy who gets humiliated by mom and forced to live in Holland much to his dismay for eight years. He becomes rich and powerful and takes his revenge on Yip by raping the daughter on videotape and sending it to her fiancée so Pauline who is now a famous TV actress loses the fiancée and everything and kills herself in a off camera bloody way. Yip gets all her girls together and they beat the crap out of evil guy then Yip uses the same method her daughter used to kill herself to kill him. While this may sound pretty good there really is little nudity or sex here. Even if this was lets say a Lifetime movie there would be more eroticism then there is here. And here's the hard part. This has the famous white hard coded subtitles that make almost no sense to anyone who understands English and they disappear for several spoken passages. For those who speak Chinese I figure this movie makes a lot more sense. Basically this is worth a look see but I can't imagine watching it twice.

About as good as chow mein in a can
2 July 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie on DVD looks like an old VHS tape with the white English subtitles that you can't remove. Of course everyone in the movie wears white and the subs are on their white clothes so you can't read half of them. A thousand years in the past an old bearded giant white eyebrows guy is doing battle with a witch with a V on her forehead. He is aided by two "fairies" (women not guys who like Kathy Griffin) who capture a "bead" or glowing fx ball. We are suddenly in 1990 and join the side splitting Captain Mambo HK police something or other and his crew of mugging goofballs. While they are supposed to be investigating headless corpses, Mambo meets one of the "fairies" who is being chased by the witch/demoness for the "bead". Most of the film is Mambo being "cute" with the "fairy" which I guess is romantic in HK. I thought the funniest part was a guy going on for five minutes about shoes and how they don't have laces anymore and you can wear sandals or boots while Asians who are as bad dancers as one can imagine get down all around them. Anyway Mambo finds out he has the second and critical "bead" and puts a gun to his right temple and pulls the trigger. Now the "fairy" gets the "bead" and kisses Mambo (the hole in his head is on the left side now) and brings him back to life but fades away as he keeps saying "Come back!" There is very little kung fu in this film. A lot of traveling around HK and being cutely romantic and a little "magic" of flying and ray beams and such. There's a whole lot of very dumb humor. I compare this like Chinese food. There's Chinese food in a restaurant and then there's Chinese food in a can you get in a supermarket. This movie is like that.

Kill a Dragon (1967)

I'm sorry to say there's not much here
25 June 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Let me say right off there's really no karate or kung fu here. If you think there's a martial arts theme you're sadly mistaken. Fernando Lamas (very much in the Billy Crystal "You look mahvelous!" mode) somehow loses a huge (seems like over a hundred big crates) shipment of nitroglycerin (!?)and a small island village keeps it from him looking to gain some vague reward for it. While being chased the village leaders bust into Palance's boat (while he's getting birthday nookie) and after Jack shows off his physical ability the trio get Jack to agree to help them move the nitro to Hong Kong. Jack gets together his motley crew of Aldo (big boozy guy who gets in drag) Hans (oddly named Asian guy) Ian (token British guy)and Aliza (nookie)who all go in on this for a third. Yes a third. A third of what is never said. No money is even mentioned. There's a sightseeing tour of Hong Kong. Some terrible fist fights (there are better fist fights in the old serials where the fighters hats never come off). A little gun play. Mostly it seems to take forever to move all these large crates of nitro into a boat and it all comes down to Ferdy letting it all go in the end and Jack grinning. Where was the action? It took two guys to write this but since there's no plot I guess we're watching it for the dialog. I think this is just another very low budget attempt to cash in on the James Bond movies and most likely You only Live Twice but there's really nothing here at all. I just don't know what they were thinking. Even some crates of opium might have worked. I'm hoping some other reviewers will comment on this.

OK movie for young kids
9 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I watched one of the Kitaro cartoons and while it seems a bit more adult than this movie it still is at least to me for children. The live action movie about a world divided into humans and monsters is very Japanese. Unlike an American movie like say The Dark Crystal this stays firmly in the kiddie mode with a little eyeball guy with a body a cat girl and various "monsters" that are about as monstrous as H&R Puffenstuf. The story about a glowing stone or rock being stolen gives way to teaching young kids about right and wrong and a parent's death but anyone could see the happy ending from a thousand miles away. There are some lines an eight year old at least in America just wouldn't understand and since this is aimed at them parents will have some explaining to do at points in the film. I found the Ratman more annoying than the little Japanese boy but most Americans find all little Japanese boys annoying even in Godzilla movies. It's not a terrible movie just a fair rental for children. I would rather watch something like Spirited Away with kids but I wonder what a live action version of that film would be like. Also this might work better in America with dubbed English voices and simpler lines for kids.

Three brothers two sisters a hunchback and zombies!
9 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Terrific Shaw Brothers martial arts mixed with a mystery plot line with horror elements. There are three brothers mostly referred to as first second and third brother. They are out to get an evil master who has killed 36 members of a family. But what they don't know is there are two sisters who are living dead girls! Their master has trained them in the finger of doom. They wear gold metal long pointy nails that shoot spikes into the backs of men's necks. This turns them into invincible living dead! One sister is evil and the good sister joins up with the first brother to defeat the evil sister and her zombie sword fighting slaves. The zombies can't stay in the sun or they'll melt so they do all their evil deeds at night mostly when it's both foggy and creepy. The evil sister spikes second and third brother and not only has a romp in bed with the living dead third brother she takes off her clothes and tries to seduce the first brother. There are plenty of great sword fights but they are not as bloody as some Shaw films. The nudity is not full on either but just suggested. There are some terrific moments of zombies carrying the coffin in the fog but there are no hopping vampires here. The evil sister talks about drinking blood but it's never shown. I highly recommend this to fans of Shaw Brothers martial arts films. HK Flix has this region 3 DVD. The other review here is basically a quote from the HK Flix review which smells of promo. But don't let that stop you from buying this DVD.

Another Monogram Gem
4 November 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Monogram Pictures like PRC and other low budget programmers had many short fun movies in the forties. This one like King Of the Zombies and Revenge of the Zombies which just appeared on TCM often had Mantan Moreland Gale Storm John Carradine and other actors and actresses who kept working even if not at the major studios. The copy I watched was 59 minutes long and probably was from the days when these films were often on TV. A gangster who has killed a bank messenger has his buddies get him to a bus where he sits next to Freckles Winslow who tells him about Fairfield Indiana a little town of 500 where of course the gangster figures he'll lay low for a while. Back in Fairfield Jeff who wears a hat that says porter is in trouble along with Danny over a gold finding machine which doesn't find or do anything. Freckles brings Jack Leach (the gangster) to the hotel where he begins to see a chance to fleece the town through a get the highway closer to town scheme. Jack brings in his buddy Nate Quigley who immediately starts leering at Freckles one time girlfriend Jane the daughter of the bank president. Jane thinks Nate is a good guy (which he is not)and fights with Freckles. Nate ends up murdered (by who it's never really made clear and pretty cool knife in the back) and two more gangsters show up posing as FBI and get ready to rob the bank. Freckles and Danny foil the robbers. Freckles ends up getting kissed by the lovely Jane and Jeff ends up having to eat his fake gold machine piece by piece being fed to him by the other black guy a chauffeur. Plenty of fun for everyone who enjoys these kind of movies.

Flying Tarzan?
17 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
This isn't really a kung fu or swords fighting movie. Crash Cinema has put this out on DVD and while the print is rather poor I'm guessing it's fairly rare as it's from 1967. It's really more of a film for children even with the big cardboard swords the guys swing around. There's virtually no blood. In fact the only place I saw some was when Jungle girl chops a guy and his mouth bleeds a little. Jungle girl and her little sister who looks about ten run around an island in tiger pajama outfits with little booties. Jungle girl is teaching little sis to "fly" or jump with the aid of wires into trees or their nifty jungle tree house with the cool ladder they came climb up on if they're not "flying". They listen to a story from their "Grandpa" (the usual white haired old Asian guy with the huge eyebrows)about how he became a "hermit". Little Jungle girl is fishing with her net and hauls in a swordsman! (Something mildly perverse about a ten year old hauling in a guy but I'm a westerner what do I know?)This guy relates his tale of falling off a huge cliff into the water surrounding the island and his battle with "bandits". "Grandpa" has a connection to the "bandits" the swordsman and his big fake sword and his one son by a different mother and the son and daughter he left behind. Poor Jungle girl doesn't get the swordsman and his big sword but is stuck with "Grandpa"'s long lost son who is extremely sorry for killing his "brother" (actually half brother but it isn't that important). No one lives happily ever after. Those of you who see this in a.b.DVD.Asian might want to check it out but don't expect any flying red paint blood or great sword battles. The battles here reminded me of those in Turkish movies with the giant silver painted wooden swords. Little Jungle girl is adorable though.

I'm Stunned
17 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
I waited hoping this would be a great show. Rarely in my life have less than thirty minutes been so lost to me as they have been tonight. I'm giving this two stars out of respect to Christina Applegate. She was great on Broadway. She made me laugh on Married With Children. She made me laugh on Jesse. I'm hoping it's not her. This show is NOT funny. Not for a second. Not a single laugh giggle chuckle titter. Nothing. I sat amazed. The writers didn't have one funny line. It's not really boring. The cast is attractive but most play basically people I would never know or like under any circumstances. I'm guessing that I'll be the very small minority on my next statement since everyone but me loves this show but the only show I can compare it to is How I Met Your Mother. Again I can sit through that one without even a mild ha ha. I know it's me but while I can't stop laughing at Two and a Half Men or Big Bang Theory these shows just left me not wanting to watch again. I know I will in hopes I'll find a laugh but after tonight I have my doubts. Sitting through six How I Mets was rough going for me but I'll sit through five more Samanthas in hopes I get to actually hear a funny line. I will check back on the reviewers for this show to see what lines they post that they found funny here. Give me a line quote. Please.

Wartime Maisie
8 October 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In this the seventh film in the Maisie series, Ann Southern meets a test pilot, who you know she's falling for, who she introduces to her new found (her dog alerts Maisie to the girl's "suicide" attempt)friend Iris. "Breezy" gets both the girls jobs in an aircraft plant where both get a lot of wolf whistles and "woo woo" (Was this a forties thing? Did it have something to do with that Woo Woo guy?)and hit on but Iris is soon engaged to "Breezy" while the in love Maisie is left crying. Maisie soon finds out that Iris is a big phony who faked her "suicide" to bilk money out of her and is just marrying "Breezy" to fleece him. Iris accuses Maisie of being a Nazi saboteur to keep her busy while she gets "Breezy" to marry her. "Breezy" starts to see through Iris and races back to Maisie to now declare his love for her! This movie is basically good fun with a somewhat "racy" plot of a guy in love with two women at the same time. I really like Ann Southern who made the most of her street smart wise cracking Maisie character and like Joan Blondell or Glenda Farell was the very attractive woman a lot of men really went for I think because they weren't the unreachable glamour girl but the real life woman who could do everything and fight for themselves. These were the original woman's lib women who were also great looking. I hope everyone will check out the upcoming Maisie "marathon" on TCM 11/26/07 where you will get to see and dvr all nine Maisie movies. If only those great Private Secretary and Ann Southern TV shows were still available for viewing. I wish Ted Turner would start a TV channel for old TV shows like TCM and show great classic TV shows uncut and commercial free.
