Hellier (2019)
Excellent documentary that kept me wanting more!
Let me just start off saying to ignore all of the bad reviews. If you're a fan of the weird and paranormal, then just watch this and make up your own mind. People love and hate movies for their own reasons, and all these reviews (even mine) are purely subjective. So don't get cyberbullied into passing on this because someone didn't think it met their expectations. Why waste the energy on negativity anyway?
This entire project is amazing. It starts off weird and just get weirder through season 2 as it takes you down a rabbit hole to strange and mysterious places. It does take a few tangents, but that is just how the clues have led them and part of the reason that this series is so compelling.
Technically, this show is fantastic. Super high production value. Between the music, visuals, sound, graphics and editing it plays to a very high standard. Kudos to the team!
I have to admit, at times I wasn't sure where this was going, but that is part of the mystique and why this drew me in always wanting more. I even bought the Greenfeld book and found it a fascinating read, although a bit confusing.
All I can say is that if you're a fan of high strangeness - WATCH THIS. If a particular episode didn't do it for you, continue on! Trust me it just keeps getting better and weirder. True fans of subjects like goblins, fairies, bigfoot, mothman, the occult, aliens/UFOs, etc. will appreciate everything in this series!
I binged the entire second season in a day, and I never do that with any series. I want more! I hope season 3 is in the works and I can't wait until it comes out.
EXCELLENT SERIES - WORTH EVERY SECOND OF YOUR TIME - WATCH IT!
Do Not Disturb (2015)
Fantastic short!!
I saw this at the HorrorHoundWeekend in Cincinnati a few weeks ago. It was up against some pretty stiff competition for a short, but I have to say that this movie was my #1 short BY FAR, and very close to being (if not completely) my favorite movie of the weekend.
It's full of twists and turns, and has more than most full-length features packed into 12 minutes! If you love the idea of surprise as you think you know what's going on, only to see another twist a few minutes after, then you will LOVE this movie.
It's very well acted, fantastically directed, and a pure pleasure to watch. I want to see it again (and again, and again)! Great job.
The Other Side (2014)
Not terrible, but a fun twist
Saw this screening at the HorrorHoundWeekend film festival. The main character was the best part, and he won Best Actor award for the festival which was appropriate. The rest of the cast was very mediocre at best. Maybe the parole officer was decent, but way too much bad acting or overacting for me.
The music was distracting, often too loud or just inappropriate for the scene, then cut off abruptly. Transitions from scene to scene were sometimes weak, too. The zombies were fast, which is fine since zombies are fictional and there are fast and slow zombie movies. They weren't too "zombified", but this is an indie film so that was fine.
Overall I was disappointed, but I did really like the twist at the end. That made up for a lot of the other failures of the movie. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but there was some good acting and the twist was fun, so if you like indie zombie movies you might enjoy.
