Truth or Dare (2018)
Watched it on a dare
Told my wife whatever this movie was we would watch the whole thing. We did. I think it was written by a 14 yr old. If you are 14 you will like it.
It is filmed professionally enough, and the acting is average. The overall plot is as expected for a Blumhouse scary movie. The script is abysmal, the character secrets or "truths" are cliché and therefore leave no identification with them when it comes time for them to be in peril. The main character completely reverses her view on life at the end. This may be the point, however nothing points to this change in character and it comes off being a gimmick ending for the sake of it. Also, the soundtrack sucked.
4 stars just cause I've seem worse.
Singularity (2017)
This may be the worst movie I have ever seen
Story, acting, writing, direction...awful. This may be the worst movie I have ever seen. Plan 9 was better. I kid you not. I fell asleep after 5 minutes, woke up...fast forwarded through it, I simply could not take it. Cusak must have needed a mortgage payment.
The Awakening (2010)
The filmmakers tried, but this was too bad to finish.
Netflix lured me in with the description of a character driven thriller and a 4.5 star rating. Sounded right up my alley, however it turned out to be too low budget for me to watch.
I like indie films just fine, but this one is on the level of a student film, and an average one at that.
I'll give them credit for trying to create hip banter between the protagonists, however there are just too many issues with the quality of the production to get past the first 10 minutes.
Poor acting Clichéd dialog Poor sound (music too loud, dialog too low) Choppy editing
One character in particular that is supposed to be menacing is completely unconvincing and just comes off like an overweight doofus.
I cannot recommend this movie.
Wendigo (2001)
I liked this movie.
A solid B movie.
I like Jake Weber. His understated delivery is refreshing in a time of over the top performances. I liked the relationship between the father and son. I liked the family dynamics. The Wendigo looks silly, but it is a representation of the kid's toy and the dead deer. It's an amalgamation like, see? This is a psychological story, not a Freddy slash em up instant gratification flick. Watch it and reflect on your inner child and what the movie might have to say to you and you'll be fine.
Nice work.
