I just watched it in the dolby cinema in tokio, english with japanese subtitles. There were maybe 10 people in the cinena that can hold more than 250 people, on a saturday evening of the starting weekend. So no one cares in japan about this movie.
The presentation in the dolby cinema was phenomenal, great nuanced 3D sound, ink deep blacks on the screen. They really adjusted the sound and vision well.
But some action scenes in the beginning and in the end aside, it didnt help. The story was about 45 minutes too long. Too many shots showing the same face expression of the cgi apes, with their sad and angry eyes. Macy was the only recogniseable actor around this B-Cast. The plot is absolutely forgetable as are the dialogs. The script could have been written by chatgpt with the prompt: write an epic movie like Avatar with Apes.
The cgi was good, but not perfect. You could tell, the apes arent real and so they didnt move me like the real actors in the original series more than 50 years ago. The mainstream soundtrack didnt help either. It cant hold a candle to the experimental tunes by jerry goldsmith from 1968.
As with avatar 2, dune 2 and niw this we see a new type of blockbuster movies, that move too slow, are 30 to 60 minutes too long and should spend more money on actors and writers than on cgi. As loud as they are, they cant fill even the best cinema in the largest metropolis of this planet no more.
