City Slacker (2012)
Entertaining feel good movie
This film is a real treasure. Well written and directed, it is thoroughly entertaining. The film is perfectly cast with fine performances. Fiona Gillies is brilliant as the high flying executive who longs for a baby in addition to her career and Tom Conti excels as her father. Adrian Lukis is hilarious as the 'bad guy' and provides the comic relief to the drama as the film progresses.
A special mention has to be made of the music score by Geoff Jackson. The soundtrack is beautiful and the music enhances the film completely. It was also interesting to see the various locations in London and the film was a perfect showcase for the city. A must-see movie!
Adam (1983)
Triumph out of Tragedy
This is a landmark film which should be screened at regular intervals with an updated list of missing children following each showing of the movie. I remember the film vividly as there was a story in the local newspaper of a person who recognised children from the photo list and eventually these children were reunited with their family.
Daniel J Travanti and JoBeth Williams are excellent as Adam's distraught parents and the film strikes the right balance of suspense, tragedy and eventual hope.
I applaud John and Reve Walsh for their courage in turning their own personal tragedy into a crusade to protect other children and other families from the same fate as theirs. God bless them.
Krakatoa: The Last Days (2006)
Krakatoa - a tragedy of volcanic proportions
This is an excellent account of the events surrounding the eruption of the volcano at Krakatoa and the devastation that followed. Taken from the diaries of survivors it demonstrates the strength of the human spirit and the instinct for survival when this destructive force of nature is unleashed upon them. There are so many poignant moments - the bravery of the ship's captain as he battled the tsunami, the mother who thought she had reached safety only to suffer a cruel blow in the aftermath of the tragedy and the woman who left her home to look for her dog - a decision which saved her life.
Great acting, special effects and direction - unmissable.
