I really hoped this would be a great series...My hopes were dashed.
13 August 2022
The producers must have named the series A League of Their Own to entice people to watch for the nostalgia of the great original movie. The series bears no resemblance to the original. Well, it's set in the 1940s with some baseball scenes, but that's where ends. I've watched the first three episodes and was disappointed. I do plan on finishing the series, fingers crossed it gets better. Somehow I think not.

Banished (2015)
6/10
Not historically accurate, but I didn't expect it to be.
19 March 2022
Banished, like many other series in this genre, is a fictional drama set during an historical period. Which is 1788, and the establishing of a penal colony by the First Fleet in NSW Australia. I am not all that knowledgeable on the settling of NSW but, from the first episode it it didn't appear to be historically accurate nor did I really expect it to be. That being said, I did enjoy the series. Further reading into the settling of NSW, it would have been more interesting if the writers used the accounts of the settling of NSW.

Light police drama
11 March 2022
I love a police drama, so when I saw this I decided to give it a watch. It's not a heavy police drama. Season one started good, but then it became a bit on the soapy side.

Well done Sir Tonyl
11 December 2021
I love historical documentaries and Sir Tony Robinson's are wonderful I've watched as many as I can find that are available in the U. S. The History of Britain, uncovers the what it was for those who lived ordinary lives, which is what makes it more interesting than learning about royalty and other well known historical figures. One thing is wrong. IMBD lists the series as being available on Pluto TV, that is incorrect, I searched for it on Pluto and didn't find it. I did find it available on Tubi.

The Waltons: Homecoming (2021 TV Movie)
3/10
The Waltons updated for 2021. Very disappointing.
8 December 2021
I remember watching the original Homecoming in 1970s, and the series when it ran and in reruns. This was a modernized, diversified, and sanitized version of the classic movie that I love. I was looking forward to seeing it, and sadly I was disappointed. It didn't have the feel of the original that showed the struggles of a large family during the depression in 1933. A time when money and jobs were hard to find, and most were living hand to mouth.

Everything from the clothing, to the house appeared too perfect, and new. That left me asking, did the production team do any research into what a family and home really look like in 1933 rural Virginia?

The characters were a bit too modern in the way they spoke and actions for 1933. Especially Mary Ellen, who should have been wearing a NOW button. Also, where was Ben???

I did enjoy Richard Thomas' narration.

Terrible
23 October 2021
I watched the first episode, and although a bit slow and somewhat confusing, I watched the rest in the hopes the series would find its feet and get better. Well, it didn't, it just droned on and on and on. The acting and characters were wooden, and with the exception of the sister's husbands, there wasn't any likeable or sympatric characters. Aside from the acting, there were plot holes big enough to drive a truck though. Anna Maxwell Martin and Rachel Stirling who are good actresses couldn't save this production.

This movie is so bad that it's........................
7 August 2021
I get this movie was supposed to be cheesy, campy and so bad that it's good. Well, it misses the mark. There's a couple of moments, that I hoped it would morph into a really good cheesy movie, but it didn't.

The series works. A bit of nostalgia with the new.
3 August 2021
I loved the Karate Kid movies and was always a fan of Ralph Macchio, but I resisted watching as I thought this would be a terrible sequel/reboot of the Karate Kid movies. Well, I was wrong. This was a very good series. Some of the acting and scenes aren't academy award worthy, but the series works as a whole. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka still play their roles perfectly. A bit of nostalgia with the new. Looking forward to season 4. A firm 9 out of 10.

Robin Prince of Thieves, a fun movie
28 July 2021
This is a 90s version of the Robin Hood tale, and it shows. That being said, it is a fun and enjoyable movie to watch, with a great cast. Kevin Costner at the time this movie was made was at the top of his career, but it was Alan Rickman who stole every scene he was in. Morgan Freeman, Christian Slater, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio round out the cast.

Is it historically accurate, no. Is it the best adaptation of the story of Robin Hood, no. It is a fun and entertaining movie, yes!

St. Elsewhere (1982–1988)

Outstanding Medical Drama
21 July 2021
The frontrunner to the ensemble cast medical dramas such as ER, Grey's Anatomy. Superb cast with William Daniels, Bonnie Bartlett, Howie Mandel, Mark Harmon, Denzel Washington and so many more. Along with cutting edge storylines, St. Elsewhere remains one of the best produced medical dramas of all time. I watched in the 80s, and sporadically when it was in reruns, I was so happy to find it on Hulu.

Good by not great
23 June 2021
The film was good, covered the history of Midway well, and Harrelson, Quaid, Wilson and most of the other cast members were very good. Ed Skrein however was just over the top in the role of Best. Occasionally coming off as more a caricature. The other thing was the CG, at time they looked more like graphics for a video game.

A great up to the series

I loved the original series and was sorry it was only five seasons long. Fantastic ending to a great series. I Purchased this TV movie from Amazon, as it is not included in the last series.

Excellent period drama, as only the British can do.
5 March 2021
This review is for the entire series. An extremely well done period hospital drama. The cast is superb with many familiar actors from other British dramas. The series takes place in the London Hospital in the Whitechapel area of London and treats the poorest of the poor. Many of the lead cast are based and named after real-life doctors, nurses and administrators who worked there and the content of the series is based on actual cases taken from the hospital archives, newspapers and personal accounts of the hospital. This gives the series a realism of what it was like during the first decade of the 20th century. Be warned, this series is not for those squeamish. about blood, burns and operating scenes.

Excellent UK Crime Series
21 February 2021
I watched the first few episode about the Jack the Ripper copycat, about a year ago. They were excellent, well written and well acted. I always look forward to watching anything with Phil Davis as he is great actor. Finally got to watch the rest of the series, and they were just as good. well written and acted as the first series. I also really enjoyed the historical connection and the explanation of the historical background of the crimes investigated in the series. I only wish there were more series to come beyond

Delightful Series

Dr. Blake is a great series. I hooked after the first episode. It's well written with original storylines. Sad that it's only 5 seasons.

Enjoyable and fun to watch, historical accurate it's not.
13 February 2021
Bridgerton is not Jane Austen, a docudrama based on real life or even Downton ABbey. Bridgerton is a highly fictionalized soapy romance series, set in the Regency period. It has a good storyline, beautiful costumes, gorgeous sets, with lots of eye candy. It is historically accurate, absolutely not. It's a fun watch and enjoyable.

Not great but not terrible, so far
3 January 2021
My rating of 5 is because that is what I think of the series based on the first three episodes. So far they have progressively gotten better, As for the flashbacks, they really disjoint the first two episode, in the third they were less disjointed. What I am hoping for is as the episodes progress, the flashbacks lessen and the series goes linear for it's conclusion. The actors are all doing a fine job so far and I have no issues with the changes made with gender and race, as long as the spirit of the character remains. I am still on the fence with Whoopie, while she is a good actress, I am still having a hard time seeing her as Mother Abigail, as in my mind, she is just to robust and young for the part. So far I don't hate it, and hope it will continue to get better.

I enjoyed it.
21 August 2020
I remember seeing the ads for this show, but never watched. It came up on my Amazon, as customers who watched,... so I watched. I enjoyed it, although some story lines were better than others, but overall I thought it was a good show. I loved the clothing, the sets and the uniforms, and the way events during of the were intertwined in the plots, like Berlin. Maybe nostalgia is part of the reason why I like it so much. I remember flying with my parents on Pan Am to London several times to visit family. It was magical, at least to a kid in the mid-sixties.

Very good
20 December 2019
I enjoyed it very much but, this is not your average versions of Dickens A Christmas Carol. If your expecting it to be faithful to the original novella and other adaptations, this isn't it. Loosely based on A Christmas Carol, it follows the premise of the book, as a tale of Scrooge being shown the error of his ways by three spirits on Christmas Eve, and his redemption. It's a darker, gritter, adult version of the tale, and Scrooge is more despicable and cruel. The cast was great and Guy Pearce as a much younger version of Scrooge, was superb. My biggest criticism, the ending was rushed. Since this was a British production, airing on commercial free BBC, I wonder what was left out of the US version to accommodate the time needed for commercials.

The Irishman (2019)

A bit of a disappointment.
1 December 2019
I really wanted to love this film but I didn't. Which surprised me considering the pedigree of the movie. The three princes of mob movies, De Niro, Pacino and Pesci, with Scorsese the king directing, I expected a block buster film, sadly for me it didn't deliver. Pesci was the standout of the three, Pacino and De Nero, appeared to be just playing themselves or composites of every mob character they ever played. It was far too long, a bit of concise editing could have been done without any ill effects and would have upped the slow pace without taking anything away from the overall impact of the film. The de-aging process, was the best I've seen used, although in the more physical scenes it's obvious the actions and movements are of older men, not the younger ones portrayed on screen. As awards season approaches, this film may well dominate, but will it be deserved?

Fantastic show
12 August 2019
I binged the first season over a weekend and fell in love with this show. The Royal centers around a hospital in Yorkshire. The plot balance of what is going on in the hospital and the personal lives of the doctors, nurses and patients is perfect. Aside from the great plots and sub-plots is the music. A mix of hits from the era is the perfect backdrop to the stories.

Subplots were a bit much.
29 June 2019
I like the series, but found the subplots of the investigator's children a bit distracting, it's almost like the writers were looking to fill some time. As for the criticism of the accents. I had not problem understanding them.

James at 16 (1977–1978)

Watched this when it first aired.
21 November 2018
I was reminded of this show, when I found a paperback book James at 15, that was published as a companion to the show. I remember watching it when it aired, it had quite the following among my friends. What this show had, which many other shows didn't, was have actors close in age to the characters they were playing. Story lines that revolved around driving, dating, first sexual experiences, alcohol abuse, handled in a matter that a kid in the 1970s could relate. James and his friends came off as a bit goody-goody for a inner city Boston school, but they were likable. I haven't found it online or available on dvd.
