Creative Violence (2003)
no frills movie making
Creative Violence is on the best short films I have seen in years. Unlike most short films you see that may be fun and quirky, but nothing else, Creative Violence comes across like a short feature film, where the characters are believable. The actors are convincing, where as is most short film the actors haven't really had the time to settle into their characters. Dowie achieves this quality of performances in the 15 minute narrative. The slightly futuristic world is also believable. It's a world that only slightly different to our own, but the differences are subtle and well achieved through photography and sound. Though the plot of the film may lack that "sucks you in" quality, its a short film worth getting hold off.
The Actress (2005)
a great film!
It's hard to believe a film like this can be made on just 700 bucks. Don't let the budget put you off! This is a great little movie! Excellent all round, performances, set design, script & story..A refreshing change for Aussie cinema. It's Australian with out being ocker, the characters are actually believable and three dimensional. The tone of the acting is understated, (the best kind, and the hardest to achieve). This film deserves a release in Australia. A bit sad that it was recognized at such a high level in the US (Slamdance) where it picked up distribution and not here in Australia as yet..Director Hilditch is an Australian director with something to offer.
Why We Had to Kill Bitch (2003)
One hell 'ov a ride!
This movie screened at the 5th Melbourne Underground Film Fest and I gotta admit! I got sucked in by the title! But the movie held up as well. Entertaining, engaging characters and convincing cast. Sexy women too!Sometimes all the crazy antics were hard to keep track of and sometimes the camera was a little too hand held,..but the film held together through its sheer energy. The film has that much visual color it is almost overwhelming, the camera never stops moving and the characters never stop scheming. My prediction is keep an eye out for this director."Bitch" is pulsing with ambition and confidence. This director is going to pull off something even bigger in the future..
