It's bad, and it gets worse every time you remember it
30 December 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Another train-wreck from start to finish. And not a particularly entertaining one either. It's more frustrating even because they ocasionally had the chance to do something interesting, but they don't have the guts to pull through. The concept of "The Force" has been so altered, butchered and modified to fit a ludicrous plot that it feels we're watching Dragon Ball's Dendé use his magic power. The force was supposed to be a subtle but powerful ally, now it can teleport physical objects across the galaxy, heal a light saber to the chest or bring entire fleets down (unless you cross two light sabers crossed in front of you, that's another story). Rey's as all-powerful as ever, which makes her the least interesting character in the whole 9 movies saga. Kathleen Kennedy's hand is all over the place, only female characters in the lead, except Poe (that has a crisis because he can't do what Leia did before him). But hey, at least is consistent with the rest of the saga. We should bury THIS movie in Tatooine instead of the light sabers.

John Wick (2014)
4/10
Aesthetically beaufitul but an overall clumsy movie
18 March 2015
I do not understand why this movie has that many good reviews. Sure, it has some good things going for it (choreography, some characters, nice action scenes, interesting places) but that's it. The whole plot (especially the first 20 minutes) happens too fast for the audience to even feel some sympathy for Wick. Dialogs are clumsy, some situations are ridiculous (and i do not mean the fight scenes, those i can cope with), the flow is just...weird. Oh and LOTS of clichés, really predictable characters with no real personality, everyone is kinda hollow and simple. I don't know, maybe it was not supposed to be taken seriously but it sure does not feel like a light hearted action film.

A good nice-paced, action-packed movie, but not without flaws.

I found out about this movie by searching for the best ranked Korean films in this site (after getting excited by the EXCELLENT "The Watcher"). And well, to be honest this movie is kind of a 6.5 to me (but IMDb has no way of specifying it). First of all, I LOVE oriental cinema, specially Korean lately so the quirky humor and weird characters aren't a problem (altough the chubby police man kinda annoyed me), I'm used to them Still the movie has a few problems on its own. On the good side, the movie is fast paced, entertaining and the fight scenes (especially the last one) are great, kinda reminds me of the first Bourne movie. Some characters are memorable, like the main character who is a mix of Reeves/Neeson. But then again, some are plain ridiculous and exaggerated, like the villain who always dresses in white. All in all it's a very entertaining movies with just a few flawed moments. Unfortunately for me, those flaws killed the mood at certain times and they were unnecessary.

Still, it's a VERY decent movie and a nice addition to the Korean cinema.

Truly an eye-opener documentary.

Great movie, tough as hell but it's excellent. It's basically about the sacrifices parents often make for their kids (and the pressure that puts on the children at the same time). There's a scene towards the end, where the train enters and exists a couple of tunnels, that describes it perfectly. Cycles. It's all about cycles. The city scenes are sad, dense, hard and depressing. However, there is this great sense of loneliness and sadness in the countryside as well. There are a few "upbeat" scenes here and there but this is mostly a very Chinese movie (little feelings expressed), so be warned. I knew about China and its millions of workers and hundreds of factories but I never imagined anything at this scale.

Furious 6 (2013)

More of the same (less would have been better)

Warning: Spoilers
A single line serves as the perfect preamble: Letty is brought back from the grave!, not as a zombie (which would have been definitely more amusing) but as someone with -sigh- AMNESIA. Anyway... When a franchise stretches up to the sixth movie, it's generally bad news and F&F6 is no exception. First the good things, which are few and not very important: the cars are nice, some special effects and scenes are very well done and some actors do a decent job. Everything else is bad, and I will be picking exclusively on DWAYNE THE ROCK JOHNSON (just because I hate him). I mean, this guy hasn't participated in a single good scene ever (let alone a decent movie). I know he's big, and that he's now part of the F&F's roster (something fans of the movie tend to consider sacred and often use to justify the quality of this film), but still, it's not worth it. Toretto's character grew old long time ago, as well as his relationship with Letty and his friends. Honestly WE JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE. Either come up with something different or let the franchise die, which is something you should have done after the first movie honestly. Oh by the way, that last scene where Dom flies from one highway to the other is more appropriate to his XXX movie than F&F. Just... ridiculous.

A great (and musical) story about difficulties of life.
28 January 2014
I really liked this one. The movie does a great job developing (and executing) its own plot in a very interesting way. Now, let's get one thing out of the way first: YES, there are quite a few songs in this movie, but don't worry, this isn't like Moulin Rouge where the songs are piled up one after the other without coherence, this songs are GOOD, both well played and well blended within the plot (with the exception maybe of a single scene towards the end of the movie that I though was a little out of place). Being an atheist myself, I went to see this movie MAINLY because I read it was about how religious and non-religious people cope with certain problems. While that is true to some extent, the movie itself is about relationships, family, how people (religious or not) deal with certain things and the consequences their actions have. Sure, it has some scenes regarding faith and god (especially a certain speech) but the real focus is in another place.

Prisoners (2013)

More than expected.
28 January 2014
I went to the cinema with absolutely no expectations about this movie and luckily, I found it to be quite entertaining. The basic plot (I'm not spoiling don't worry) involves two couples whose children get kidnapped. The performances are quite good and even more, the characters are quite empathetic (especially Jackman since you can feel his frustration and anger rising throughout the movie, Gyllenhaal does a good job as well). I wouldn't say it should have been an Oscar candidate but it's still an entertaining movie to rent or even to go to the cinema like I did. In general lines, it's an entertaining well-paced movie with a more than decent script.
