Shadow in the Cloud (2020)
Nightmare at 10.000 feet!
The log line is very intriguing:
A secret agent boards a B17 bomber with orders to deliver its secret cargo while flying through enemy territory in the Pacific.
But the actual premise is a call to a classic Twilight Zone episode in which a monster (seen only by the protagonist) tears apart an airplane piece by piece while the crew is blissfully oblivious of its existence.
All that is good enough and makes for an interesting first half of the movie. With most of the time spent watching Chloe Grace Moretz stuck in a ball turret hanging from the belly of the aircraft, bantering with the crew.
In the second half of the movie however, everything falls apart. There is no more intrigue or tension. The movie becomes a strange mix of horror, thriller, war action, and family drama (yes, yes!). With no clear direction, other than placing the protagonist into progressively absurd scenarios.
The Art of the Steal (2013)
Shallow but entertaining heist movie with a nice twist.
It is far better than what I have expected from seeing the IMDb score and reading the reviews. There is certainly more to this movie than what you would normally think.
The story itself is not very original. Simple retelling of caper story clichés. Healthy dose of humor and interesting storytelling keeps you from giving up halfway through the film. Just don't expect much depth or details. Most of the action and interesting stuff happens later. Almost at the very end.
Kurt Russell seems to be better than usual. I always liked him as an actor, but thought he isn't capable of making a good performance since the beginning of noughties.
Jack the Giant Slayer (2013)
Movie that needed to be made - just because.
Everyone knows the story and basic premise. It was only a matter of time before it appears in all its CGI glory on the big screen.
This is not an action movie! People die in reasonable amount but you will not see a drop of blood anywhere. Typical fairy tale. But it does have its advantages. Because it feels like reading a book to a child. That makes it fluent and smooth with story unfolding in perfect timing and without boring pauses.
However, if you are older than 18 years of age, you will most likely feel underwhelmed.
+ The story is interesting. 2 hours to spend with your family.
- Predictable jokes. Raping history and laws of physics.
