Crimson Peak (2015)
The Perfect Gothic Romance
This is not a horror movie. This is a gothic romance, as per the director, and it definitely fits.
There are ghosts in it, but the ghosts are... more of a metaphor for the past.
This is a lovely, dark, messy romance, with a fantastically messy love story, beautiful architecture, a full story, and an interesting ending. There is a lovely mystery element to it, that the main character puzzles out and tied up nicely.
There are hidden themes and fantastic visuals throughout, some of which you really have to watch close for.
The casting is also absolutely perfect.
My favorite movie of all time. 10/10.
World War Z (2013)
If read the book, don't waste your time. If you didn't still don't.
Worst zombie movie ever, and I've seen Night of the Living Dead 2.
It's just Brad Pitt showing off with zombies. They borrowed one point from the book and a few locations, then made the rest up.
The stuff they made up doesn't even make sense. Why would zombies avoid you if youre sick? They wouldn't, because they are just the most base instinct: the need to feed as put well in Resident Evil.
Not only did they murder one of my favorite books then desecrate it's corpse, but it isn't even a decent zombie movie on its own if you ignore or haven't read the book.
One star only because I can't give it zero.
Radium Girls (2018)
A True Disappointment
They softball every aspect of the story. I read the book the first time 2 years ago and have been waiting to see the movie since then.
They do not depict the destruction radium wrought upon the bodies and lives of these girls. All they show is bruised faces. All they mention is glowing bones and lost teeth.
The court battle that took ages and saw the passing of many girls before it was settled, is depicted quickly, with no insight into the fight these girls had to go through just to get someone to listen to them.
This is a story of suffering, death, and horrific events, and a long, drawn out legal battle. None of this is depicted in the film. This was a hallmark film, not a true depiction.
