Law & Order: The Great Pretender (2022)
Terrible acting
Don't understand how anyone is rating this show above a 5! The acting is forced. Which is surprising by Anderson and Donovan. Manheim is just awful. She's cringe worthy. I can't blame it all on their acting, the writing is horrid. There's no plot development. They put so much makeup on McKoy that he looks like a scary muppet. And worst of all, every show is just a PSA on whatever the SJWs are railing against at the moment. Not every show should be remade. Leave it alone. The old ones are plentiful and better to watch. I can't watch this frivel.
First Time Fixer: Taking on a Carolina Clunker (2021)
Mildly entertaining
I give this couple credit for buying a house, fixing it up, then living between 2 dilapidated houses. Location is everything. I wouldn't live in a slum area. 6 people in a less than 900sqft house is a little optimistic. Wondering how long they can realistically stay in this house. Are 4 teenagers really going to remain in 1 room, in bunk beds until they move out? They all look very close in age.
Home Town (2016)
Cheap projects
The only enjoyable part of this show is the before tours of houses and the after. They do little projects to give the homeowners something personal, but they are cheap and look elementary. I watched them change out a back door awning to regular material...as in, rain would leak right through the material and not protect anyone from the rain. Even if the material was sunbrella...it will mildew and leak rain. It wasn't a true awning...it was another cheap product made to look better, but function poorly. Frankly, it didn't look that pretty either.
They both have very annoying personalities. Like they're trying so hard to be cool and funny and quarky. They're not, and it's painfully obvious.
I also watched them build a flat deck. No railing at all. The couple, whom they knew and were friends with, had a small child. I can see problems with no railing. In any case, it reminded me of a deck in a fraternity house. Cheap and ugly. I really wish HGTV would come up with a show like the original fixer upper show. Show me 3 houses(like house hunters) and then give us all the details on the house and REAL budgets. Stop creating drama and problems(like love it or list it) and tell us why the whole house isn't being renovated. Even with fixer upper, they wouldn't show you the "other renovations" that were in the budget. I can only assume that the whole house is renovated, until you walk into a 1970's bedroom. Nothing is more realistic than This old house.
Fixer Upper: Welcome Home: Scrappy Barn to Modern Charm (2021)
No bathroom
I don't understand what these producers are thinking when they don't show the completed project. It would have taken 30 seconds to show the bathroom. Either that or they didn't give this renovation a bathroom. Maybe there's an outhouse. Plus, as much as i loved the original fixer upper...this new show is lacking a lot. Chip's humor seems to be forced now. Not natural...scripted. Budget is not discussed except for a few episodes. The whole appeal of the original show was that the couple had a choice to make between 3 houses and a budget was given. Are they out of hones for sell in waco? I guess that's a possibility. However, they should find out the budget of the owners and break it down. As it is, every home looks the same. Wood, greens, industrial. Or wood, white and industrial. The only thing that was refreshing about this latest episode was that it wasn't an employee of magnolia.
Wood Work (2017)
Nothing special
I'm not sure why Clint gets the accolades he gets from his "custom" pieces. They are uber simple and lack any real character. I just watched a show where he put some shelves on the wall and used metal shelf supports that looked like they came out of a 1990's closet. Does he not know how to do floating shelves? Most of the tables he makes look like they come out of college frat houses. I'm being dead serious. There is nothing unique about his creations. You can find the same stuff at any Home Goods store. The only difference is that he uses reclaimed wood, which he tends to automatically call antique wood. Reclaimed does not mean antique. Every piece of pine he's reclaimed he calls antique pine. Something about the chip and joanna crew, including chip and joanna, makes them not want to do any finishing work. They don't putty over nail holes. They screw decorative items right into the wall and the screw is still showing on the decorative piece. For example, a mirror with a wood frame was screwed directly through the wood frame into the wall. Tacky.
Fixer Upper: Welcome Home (2021)
Dull and uninspiring
I prefer the old show. Part of the fun was seeing 3 old houses and wondering which one they would choose. So far, the 1st 2 episodes have been employees who have bought their homes recently. I was shocked on the 2nd episode when they fixed a mismatched brick by just covering it up with a wooden structure and training ivy to grow up it. As pretty as it is, ivy growing on the house is not good for the house and that wooden structure won't last long. When that rots and comes down, the mismatched brick is going to look terrible.
Another thing they're good for, even in the old shows, is not hanging items on the wall properly. I watched them drill a hole in the wooden frame around a mirror, right into the wall. They do that often. I guess they don't mind a screw showing on most of the things they hang on the wall.
Maybe this show will improve, but so far it seems forced. Overacting. When they run out of employee's houses to do..them what?
Motherless Brooklyn (2019)
Too long, caricature acting
The book was pretty good, this movie adaptation, not so much. It was too long and they took too many "artsy" liberties. The movie was at least 45min too long. Not impressed with Ed Norton's depiction of tourette's syndrome. It pains me to say that because I love Norton as an actor. To be fair, I got pretty tired of it in the book as well. It was a novel idea(pardon the pun), but it took away from the plot line, which was so convoluted, that I stopped trying to keep up with it. What they deem to be artistic license, I see as caricatures of the 50s. Fell asleep a few times
Yellowstone (2018)
Lot of animal death and suffering
Only on the 2nd episode and I like it a lot. But animal lovers beware....there is a lot of animal suffering and death. It may be realistic, but it also seems gratuitous. Animals suffering from a meth lab explosion, animals hit by a truck...the opening seen is if a horse having to be shot because the trailer carrying it was in a wreck. I'm not sure why they have to show so much. They could pan away and it could be implied, but they choose to show it up close and personal. Makes me not want to watch the show really
Live in Front of a Studio Audience: Norman Lear's 'All in the Family' and 'The Jeffersons' (2019)
Only 2 actors stood out
Jamie Foxx did an outstanding job of playing George. Close your eyes and you'd swear it was Sherman Hensley. Marissa was very good as edith, although it was overacted. Wanda Sykes was absolutely horrible as Louise. She played Wanda Sykes... Like she does in every single thing she's been in. She didn't even try to embody the part of Louise. Woody Harrelson got the accent down okay. But other than that, it was a poor job. No one can play Archie but O'Connor. One thing is for sure, no way Lear would have done a show where the liberal was portrayed as an embecile. It shows just what Hollywood thinks of conservatives that he painted bunker as the "typical" white conservative. The same way he paints George as a black conservative, but also an embecile. Nevertheless, the shows were genius and funny. Wish they had added in good times. That show was 2nd to only All in thr Family.
Restored by the Fords (2016)
Overpriced and amateurish
Just watched 2 episodes from S2. I won't be watching another one. In one episode they painted everything black. They painstakingly sanded the stain off a staircase only to stain it "ebony". The 4x4 kitchen backsplash was "ebony". Uhm no, they were 1980's black bathroom tile. The 2nd episode they painted everything white. "Custom built" a 12ft table that probably cost him $100 in materials from Lowes. And the layout was asinine. The mother complained that she was confined to the kitchen while everyone else was having fun in the living room. So the Fords take away all upper cabinets and give them minimal open shelving that I can assure you most parents will not keep neat and clean.they also gave them minimal USABLE bottom cabinets as the sink, stove and dishwasher were all on one wall and that was the same wall where the only cabinets were. and there was no kitchen island! So when this mother is cooking or cleaning, her back will still be to the living room and everyone else. Maybe construction is 10x more expensive than other cities? Not sure. Other shows on HGTV aren't claiming it costs $15,000 dollars for a support beam when a load bearing wall is removed. That's right, $15,000. Totally ridiculous and they look like they're stoned the entire time. Definitely not my taste, but even if it were, I'd be appalled if they told me it was going to cost that much to have a wall removed. Property brothers and fixer upper never seem to quote more than $3-5,000 dollars for an engineered beam or structural beam. This show is only 30min long and that's 28min too long.
The Fix (2019)
Everyone except....
The lead character Mya makes this show almost unwatchable. Her facial expressions are distracting and she's not a very good actress. If it wasn't for adewale, the show would be a total dud. This show just screams of Marcia Clark's narcissism.
The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Pornography and not a good one
This movie is nothing more than a porno with famous actors thrown in to make it seem like a legit movie. The story sucks, the acting is subpar by all involved. Wish I could scrub it from my memory
Reversing Roe (2018)
Biased beyond belief
This documentary is so obviously biased that I see it as a political hit piece by the left. Once again painting conservatives as religious nut jobs and white bigoted men. This is why there is not a serious discussion to be had on abortion. The left will do whatever it takes to make the right look like the ones in the wrong.
