Martyrs (2008)

Raises some questions. Not sure which ones
3 April 2023
As a torture porn this is well made. Maybe among the best. So well made that I would not recommend this movie to most viewers.

With a very vague ending and general plot line of the movie it has a dissent attempt to raise questions, provoke some thoughts and start discussions.

But as a movie as whole, it is just Ok.

Some parts of the movie are glued together by very stupid plot devices. So, when bad stuff happens it is hard to connect to the characters who keep doing same mistake again, and again, and again.

As to the ending. Yes - it is wide open for interpretation. I've counted at least 4 possible explanations. It is just none of them are good enough to justify plot holes and all the pain and suffering...

Turning Red (2022)
2/10
This one will be very popular in a small group of fans. For a short time.
17 March 2022
The worst Pixar's movie ever. It looks like it was written and directed by worst intern Pixar ever had. And animated by the same intern.

0% story, 0% likable charters. 100% agenda and 100% of predictable cliches. Targeting only basic teenage girls.

In our group nobody cared about anything that was happening on the screen.

Do not waist you time, better go and watch some paint dry.

Good movies paritally ruined by Engliish translation
7 February 2022
English haiku translations are just plain awful. Unfortunately most of the movie is centered around haiku. So you either have to either struggle through those scenes when you have to appreciate poetry or just not use English soundtrack/subtitles.

The Last of Us: Part II (2020 Video Game)
10/10
It is hard to swallow. Masterpiece
30 June 2020
There is a reason why some of those who actually have finished the game would not like it. This is absolutely new level for games. It was pioneered by "The Last of Us" and now pushed even further. Much, much further. Way outside of comfort zone for many. It is a very dark and complex drama. It asks, very effectively, disturbing questions about wounds that cannot heal, decisions we make and price we do not want pay. Some will see stupidity on every turn. Some - excruciating pain that push characters to do what they were groomed to do by parents and society. And the painful road of accepting the outcome.

And as every masterpiece of this complexity it will have its share of haters. Some will hate it because this is not Fortnight. Some because they cannot accept or understand what happened to characters they loved. And some because they would hate to recognize themselves in the story.

If you are not afraid of tough questions - try this game. You may love it. Or hate it. But you will definitely remember it for a long time.

There is a story... And that is the problem
23 May 2019
I do love first 2 chapters. But this one is the end for John Wick and its universe for me. Action sequences are great. They are better then great! And action movies do not need much of the plot. But then there is the story... How to put it mildly, the best way to improve this movie it to cut all of the "plot" out completely. It is just incomprehensible mix of all clichés in the dumbest way. It is like they hired an intern to write the script that would look like a mix of Tarantino, Rodriguez and Snyder (and I am not a fan of last 2). And then blindly took whatever intern delivered without even proofreading. Oh, no, it WAS written by committee of 5(!) with intern (Shay Hatten) in charge. I will definitely skip Ballerina...

Fun and entertaining, but warning: do not watch if you are republican
24 October 2017
I did not expect much from this movie, but was pleasantly surprised. If you are looking for some good time I would highly recommend it this week (*).

Yes this movie has all the Hollywood clichés you've seen before: full of CGI, simple and predictable plot, happy ending, etc But it is quite fun and entertaining. Actors will not get Oscars, but had enough chemistry. CGI was not misplaced and pace was just right.

This is definitely a movie to be watched in a movie theater.

I think I know who is giving this movies bad reviews. Read warning below

(*) One warning: If you are republican/conservative/earth-flatter/whoever who uses stuff invented by scientist but do not get it DO NO WATCH THIS MOVIE! You would be better with stuff from Jeff Tremaine.

a) It starts with climate change stuff. Oops N1

b) In 2019 presidents is NOT Trump and he is Democrat! Big oops N2

c) And by far the worst part is that world gets together! Inexcusable oops N3

What all this fuss is about?
28 December 2006
Average, slow film with some what charming performance of a young actress (Olive), but not really deep enough to touch in levels it was actually intended to. Not very original, just plain attempt to make it inspiring… Definitely not a masterpiece, not even crafted enough for any sort of attention. Simply blah… You have to really look for originality in too many scenes of grayed out simplicity. Is it just a dark comedy? What is the main concern and what do we have to find in the plot? Despite good cast performances, this movie doesn't deserve an attention or an award... Who cares about things that matters for dysfunctional members of utilitarian family?

Bad even for amateurs
13 August 2006
An unfortunate and more or less insignificant movie with poor camera work, endless fast-forwards, shaking cameras, never ending jumps, skips and rattles for no obvious reasons, probably to make you more involved; but all you have is just nasty feeling of being kind of sick in your stomach.

This is because its simply so horrible that you can forget trying to make yourself look intelligent and media literate by ripping the bladder evacuate because the scale of misguided conception baffles the mind and eventually shuts it down. The book was good, but tasteless director has ruined the experience and the ride which was suppose to happen.

DO NOT watch this movie alone or you will lose your mind trying to figure out why anyone would make a movie this bad...
