The best movie of the year
15 June 2005
Warning: Spoilers
"Star Wars 3" is absolutely a well crafted masterpiece from George Lucas. Although you might find the dialogue stupid at times, it sure does not put the film down either way because of all those light saber fights, great beginning, awesome battle scenes, Ian McDiarmid's magnetic performance as the Emperor, and the answer to all your questions of the other "Star Wars" films. This "Star Wars" film is passionate. I recommend it to all "Star Wars" fans and people who have not been into "Star Wars."

Anakin Skywalker(Hayden Christensen) has now been elected to the jedi council and may later on become a father because his wife Padme(Natalie Portman) is pregnant. After Anakin saves Chancellor Palpatine(Ian McDiarmid), Anakin and the Chancellor have a mysterious friendship that his master Obi-Wan(Ewan MacGregor) and the council disapprove of. Now the Trade Federation (if they are still called that) are now eliminating other planets to make the jedi's get lured into a trap from the sith. Now Anakin has been seduced to the dark side because of his fear for losing Padme from child birth.

First off, I would say thank you to George Lucas for such a magnificent idea to the series. This is the best movie of the year. I wonder if George Lucas will bring up more ideas for the series. This movie is going to get a lot of nominations at the red carpet, believe it or not. This film is given a 10.

This film nearly made me cry
13 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
Clint Eastwood made a fine film but I think it only makes 4/5 of a million. I am a big Eastwood fan by the way. Eastwood is boxing club owner and manager Frankie Dunn, who has an untold past between him and his daughter. One day he meets Maggie Fitzgerald(Hilary Swank), who tries to make Frankie her boxing manager. During their journey to the top of the boxing world they become more of friends as anyone else can until a fatal injury that ruins Maggie's life. The film starts out very slow in the beginning. They should have shortened the beginning and beginned with the start of Frankie and Maggie in the boxing fights. I expected it to be a lot like "Rocky" with its joyful theme that comes on during the fights and training but I can't say that Eastwood's music is bad. It is more of a film for adults. The film nearly made me cry because of the subject matter. When Maggie died, the film changed its direction afterwards and we won't even know what happens to Frankie next. What made me nearly cry is the whole time that Maggie was in the hospital bed. I knew she was going to die anyway. Freeman does a great performance. The make-up is first-rate and the best(I think it is going to win an Oscar for that). The big part of the picture is Swank's performance. She is going to take the Oscar this year no matter what. Clint's direction and performance is good but "The Aviator"s Scorsese and Dicaprio is probably going to win. The movie is good but i'll give it an 8/10.

John Travolta at his best
3 February 2005
Warning: Spoilers
My review may contain a spoiler or might not. "Saturday Night Fever" is a film that made Travolta a star. Travolta is magnetic as disco king Tony Manero who tries to make a fortune by working with drifter Stephanie(Karen Lynn Gorney) for a disco competition at his club. Bee Gees music score is outstanding. Sad thing is, is that the score did not receive an Oscar nomination. Travolta dances to "The Bee Gees" music like "Night Fever", "You Should Be Dancing", and "More Than A Woman." Another song he dances well to is "Disco Inferno." Travolta did receive a nomination for best actor of '77. This is probably one of the best disco films ever made, although it's plethora of street language may offend others, including some sex scenes. Go see it. 9.5/10.

Unforgiven (1992)
10/10
One of the greatest westerns of all time since "Shane" and "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly"
4 January 2005
"Unforgiven" remains moving and beautiful after you've seen it. Clint Eastwood is at his best. It is my favorite Eastwood film of all time. The film goes a bit rough at times. Eastwood is retired killer named William Munny who is asked by the Schofield Kid(Jaimz Woolvett) to go on a bounty to kill two men who cut up a prostitute in a quiet town with a corrupted sheriff(Gene Hackman) who happens to be on the killers side. Their are very beautiful images like the one at the tree which kind of looks like the shot from "Gone With The Wind." Filmed in Alberta. Eastwood won his two Oscars for the Picture as a producer and for his Direction but he failed to receive his nomination for Best Actor. It also won for Editing and Hackman for supporting actor. 10/10

Mean Streets (1973)
9/10
Martin Scorsese's must see masterpiece
1 January 2005
Warning: Spoilers
"Mean Streets" was a good movie. I'm not sure if I am writing a spoiler in this review because you might get the whole idea of the movie out of the review. Starring Harvey Keitel, Amy Robinson, and the legendary Robert De Niro. Keitel plays small-time hood Charlie Cappa, and he wants to be involved with his uncle Giovanni's(Cesare Danova) mob. Robinson is Teresa, Charlies epileptic girlfriend who is not accepted by Charlies family and she is also related to Johnny Boy(De Niro) who is on the run from a loanshark named Michael(Richard Romanus). It might seem violent because of the title but it isn't because it is the mean characters that make it a mean street and its more of a look on life of the characters. The drama is intense and well done. If their was academy award nominations (but it didn't get any nods) I would nominate 6 awards for Best Picture, Director, Actors(De Niro and Keitel), Screenplay, Supporting Actor(Danova),and Supporting Actress(Robinson). Although if their was more action I would of given the film a 10 but instead a 9/10.

"Nobody helps Paul Vitti"
12 December 2004
A complete comedy farce. Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal are both great fun and so is Joe Viterelli as De Niro's hilarious security guard Jelly. It is amusing. Nothing is wrong with the film accept its language. No one should complain about its content. Its content is meant to be funny. When mobster Paul Vitti(De Niro) is suffering anxiety attacks for some odd reason, he sees a shrink named Ben Sobel(Crystal) to solve his tragedys and ways to move through the mob. The idea is small and it stretches out too far but its still great fun. To me this is De Niro's best comic performance of all. The most hilarious part in the film has to be where Crystal is in the church getting hugged by a stranger. An 8.3/10.

The First And Only X-Rated Best Picture Winner
25 November 2004
Midnight Cowboy has well put impact that is undeniable. It is marked by exceptional performances by Dustin Hoffman and newcomer Jon Voight who have both never been better and a keen sense of observation. The director Schlesinger uses fast cutting and tricky camera work to provide a satirical background as enrichment of the story. The point of the movie must be to give us some insight into the derelicts-two of the many kinds of dreamers and failures in the city. The film is also emotionally shattering and is old-fashioned with unusual modern twists. A naive Texas cowboy named Joe Buck(Voight) comes to N.Y.C. to become a gigolo but he finds nothing but the help and friendship of a petty, crippled con man named Ratso Rizzo(Hoffman).

I'm afraid I may have to spoil one thing. When Ratso dies and you put his Florida dream scene together it is really sad because he is derelict who didn't get what he wanted. It was rated X in 1969 and changed to R in 1971.

It was rated X because of the realistic sex scenes which isn't good for the film at all but the film itself is fascinating. It gets better and better. A 9.6/10. Also I recommend that nobody should watch this on commercial TV. They ludicrously dub the language and it runs at 104 minutes.

Midnight Cowboy's impact was undeniable. The two leads Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight have never been better. The director John Schlesinger uses fast cutting and tricky camera work to provide a satirical background as enrichment of the story. The point of this film is to give us some insight into the homeless. A naive Texas cowboy named Joe Buck(Voight) travels to New York City and dreams of becoming a gigolo but he finds absolutely nothing but the help and friendship of petty, crippled con man Ratso Rizzo(Hoffman). The film does get a bit emotional at times and shattering and its a bit old fashioned with unusual modern twists. It is fascinating. It won 3 Oscars for Best Picture, Director and Screenplay. Based on a novel by James Leo Herlihy. The film gets a bit weighed down by its crappy, realistic sex scenes and the drug party which makes this film a 9/10.

A Fun-Filled Movie
11 November 2004
"American Graffiti" is fun-filled. The story is basically OK about four high school graduates in California who are going to remember the good times they had. Richard Dreyfuss as Curt Henderson is a guy who thinks that every girl who says "hi" is ugly and then suddenly he meets a blonde in a t-bird and is searching for her for nothing. Ronny Howard as Steve Bolander is ruining his last night with his girlfriend Laurie(Cindy Williams) because he thinks that seeing other people while he is in college would strengthen their relationship. Paul Le Mat as John Milner (probably the most coolest guy you will ever know then any other character in another movie) is out on the town and picked up a fourteen year old girl named Carol(Mackenzie Phillips). Last is Charlie Martin Smith as Terry Fields who gets pushed around a lot as we can see in the film meets the girl of his dreams Debbie(Candy Clark). Not really for all tastes, a bit of denouement but it proves to be good with its 60's music and Milner's racing with Bob Falfa(Harrison Ford in his film debut). It is an alright film. 8.9/10.

Still As Powerful By Todays Standards
10 November 2004
"The Best Years Of Our Lives" is powerful, moving, poignant and sad at times. It's overlong but its worth it because their is no excess. Three men return from the war and rehabilitate in their civilian lives. Al Stephenson(Fredric March) returns home and is handling his life very well with his wife Milly(Myrna Loy). Fred Derry, another one of the men has returned home to his selfish wife Marie(Virginia Mayo) but is now falling in love with Al's daughter Peggy. Homer Parrish(Harold Russell) returns home without hands but with a bit of bad results with his relatives and thinks his girlfriend Wilma Cameron(Cathy O'Donnell) is a bit depressed without his hands but she doesn't mind because of his feelings and inspiration. This film has admiring characters and a great story. This film is no doubt a 10.

Here's Looking At Casablanca
10 November 2004
Casablanca has an outstanding storyline. Critic Leonard Maltin puts Casablanca as his contender for the best film in Hollywood of all time. The lines are good, everything is fine but its just missing something that I can't really explain. It doesn't matter though. Casablanca is worth looking at because of it period time:during World War II. Humphrey Bogart is like a legend in this film as bar owner Rick Blaine who meets his ex-girlfriend again Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) but she just wants Rick to help her and her boyfriend Victor Laszlo(Paul Heinreid) get out of Casablanca to America so they can be as far away from the nazi's as possible. Claude Raines as a nazi is another glamorous character. Won Best Picture, Director and Screenplay Oscars of 1943. 9.9/10.

The Contender For The Best Black & White Film Of All Time
10 November 2004
Two big contending thumbs up!!! "On The Waterfront" is probably the greatest black & white film of all time. It is timeless and breathtaking. It is on my top 50 list as #2. I loved this movie and of course Marlon Brando's performance as ex-prize fighter and misfit Terry Malloy, who works on a New York waterfront for his brothers boss Johnny Friendly(Lee J. Cobb) who is also a gangster who just took out one of his workers with Terry's help and the worker is the brother of who Terry loves Edie(Eva Marie Saint in her first and Oscar winning debut film). Malden as a priest is another great debut. I recommend it has a must see. The taxi cab scene with Brando and Rod Steiger is still has powerful, touching and moving has ever. The first time I watched this scene made me feel overwhelmed. This is a 10.

The Greatest Sequel Ever Made
8 November 2004
The Godfather:Part II is probably the greatest sequel ever made. It is very interesting. It is very compelling. It is also the first sequel to win an Oscar for best picture. Unique in its idea of two different times. New don of the Corleone family Michael(Al Pacino) is dealing with Hyman Roth(Lee Strasberg) but Roth seems to be luring him into a trap and somebody else betrays Michael unsuspectingly and another story is the rise of his dead father Vito(Robert De Niro). De Niro won his first Oscar. His last movie that made him a star would have to be Mean Streets. Pacino should of won for best actor of 1974. This is his better performance than in The Godfather. The reason why because it is the best sequel of all time would be because of the film-making, acting, the set, and its thoughtful score by Nino Rota. A 10.

The Godfather (1972)

This film is definitely an offer you can't refuse
7 November 2004
The Godfather is definitely my favourite film of all time. It is never boring. Brando's best. He won an Oscar. The film is absolutely irrisistible. It's original and is perfect on the telling of a mafia empire falling down because of a deal that was turned down. Pacino became a star for his portrayal of Michael Corleone. This is James Caan's best film and is the only film that got him an academy award nomination. Other people that became noticeable are Robert Duvall and John Cazale. For sure it is a 10. I recommend it to everyone. It is not a film to say no to because everything is going right down the line. I am sure it will not be a turn down. I am saying this because I know that it is one of the best films created. It was #3 on #100 of the afi's top 100 films list.

Scarface (1983)

"Say Hello To My Little Friend!!!!"
7 November 2004
Scarface was an alright film but it could have been better because their is excess and unpleasantness that should be gone. The ending was although the best and showed a great insight:Crime doesn't pay. Many people did like this movie. The film has a lot of great characters and Pacino is superb as cuban refugee becoming a drug dealer Tony Montana. Tony becomes a drug dealer after he thinks his boss Frank Lopez tries to kill him. Steven Bauer is great but this is the only film i've seen or heard of with him. Loggia as Frank Lopez is another great character. To be honest with you all, Pacino is more better as Michael Corleone in "The Godfather Trilogy." The Reason why I liked the ending is because of the style of where he says "Say Hello To My Little Friend" and the great action. That scene is a 10. This film is an 8/10.
