Allen Gregory (2011)
This show must continue! Give it a chance guys.
I like cartoons/animations whatever you call it. I would rather watch this instead of Terra Nova any day, that show is definitely becoming more irritating with each episode. Firstly, I think viewers of Allen Gregory have to be prepared to deal with the sort of dialog that most straight-oriented shows don't contain. I mean has everyone forgotten about Will & Grace or Queer As Folk? Anyway, I think with Allen Gregory, which I just simply thought was another emerging late night sit come definitely captured my attention. I think you really have to be a member of a certain demographic to enjoy the slow-pace, over-exaggerated dialog that goes on through this series. It's doesn't have the sort of in your face humor that's going to get you laughing out loud every few seconds, but there's just something about the way the characters talk in this show that's got me drawn to each episode. Also, I guess I can relate to the show's underlying gay theme. I'm surprised that this show does not have a strong gay following! I mean, c'mon, anyone who was able to tolerate the antics that went on in all the series of the A-list should be able deal with this show. Has everyone forgotten about Daria and the King of the Hill. The humour and dialog wasn't spontaneous and the characters on that show talked as if gravity was putting a heavy weight on their tongues. Same thing goes with the dialog on this show, but I dunno, the show itself seems refreshing in several aspects. It certainly contains a lot of wit and intelligence and an "up yours" sort of smarts. I really recommend viewers to give this show a chance and hopefully they will warm up to it as the series progresses.
L'odyssée d'Alice Tremblay (2002)
quite entertaining and humorous in a french Canadian way.
I saw this movie today on Bravo while switching channels. I only saw from the scene with Cinderella and her problem at the ball. It was in French with English subtitles and the title somewhat attracted my attention. Even thought I was disappointed that the main character's image was not created in the likes of Lewis Carroll's character, it was very interesting and funny to watch. The movie has a production atmosphere that kept me thinking of the Prince Charming video from Adam and the Ants. Overall it would seem that this film was made in the likes of Rock/Poppy Broadway musical kind of way. And yes, this film had a more of a PG content to it, especially since the original Cinderella was not a wannabe snob who went around bashing someone else's head just so she could make a her night at the ball run smoothly. However, the humorous plot definitely kept me tuned to the show. I couldn't stop laughing at every comical scene.
The Grudge (2004)
Brought back my old fears.
Having read what all most of you Western patrons of the movie have said, I have to say as an Asian that they have been quite fair on the movie. Okay, at the time that the original Ju-On was being shown in theaters, I was still into Western and Korean horror(Tale Of Two Sisters, White Room, etc.) I was so not into Japanese horror. Well, Ju-On got such good ratings here, that I regretted not ever having given it the chance in the theaters. However the Grudge came on here, giving me a second chance to see it,and of course since it was gonna have foreign cast in it, I was more eager. Boy was I glad I sat down in the studios two days ago. That movie just made me wish I had chosen a weekend to watch it. The thing about Asians is that we got such imaginations, that we always are ready to for the scare when comes to these sort of movies. A lot of supposedly lame horror movies that have got received lame theater feedbacks in the West have received quite the opposite this side of the world. Overall the movie was really scary. Of course that has to do with the fact I was the only one sitting in the front section(5th row) of the movie-hall, while rest of them scaredy cats were all huddled in the back(even though when I checked the computer screen during ticket purchasing, a lot of the front rows had been taken). With no one but myself to brace for during the creepy scenes,I had my eyes closed almost half the time. Boy I think I missed a lot of the scenes, especially the scene where that Ju-On chick was giving us a view of her face on the security camera. Was it her or something else there? I never found out. The scene where the little boy opens his mouth and starts yowling like a cat when Peter was looking out the window was also creepy. As a result of this movie I've been sleeping with the lights on till 6:30p.m. for the past two days. That just shows how much realism this movie has. Just a few questions. Whatever happened to the Japanese husband? How come we don't see his ghost? How come Sarah Michelle Gellar is the only one that keeps getting those psychic premonitions of the past occurrences in that house? Are the Ju-On mother and child aware of each other's presence? They seem quite independent of each other in handling the scaring. Will there be a part2? I'm certainly keeping my fingers crossed on that one. Anyone who hasn't seen the film, got see it. It'll change your views of your ethereal surroundings completely. Believe me.
