Sound of Freedom (2023)
A disjointed mess
"Sound of Freedom" was an absolute disappointment from start to finish. This movie tried to tackle a compelling subject matter but utterly failed in its execution. The plot was disjointed, leaving the audience confused and disconnected from the characters' experiences. The pacing was horrendous, with long stretches of tedious dialogue and irrelevant scenes that added nothing to the story.
Not only did the film lack coherence, but the performances were also lackluster at best. With it's C-list actors, the characters felt one-dimensional and unconvincing, making it difficult to empathize or care about their plight. The casting choices were questionable, further detracting from any potential emotional impact.
What truly ruined the movie was its heavy-handed approach to storytelling. Instead of trusting the audience to grasp the gravity of the real-life events depicted, "Sound of Freedom" spoon-fed us with over-the-top melodrama and manipulative music cues. It felt like the filmmakers were trying too hard to tug at our heartstrings rather than let the story speak for itself.
Furthermore, the film's attempts at social commentary were shallow and reductive, reducing complex issues to clichéd stereotypes. It was a failed attempt to tackle serious subjects, and the result was nothing short of offensive.
From a technical standpoint, the cinematography and editing were subpar, adding to the overall lack of engagement. The use of shaky cam and erratic cuts only added to the viewer's frustration and made it difficult to focus on the actual storyline.
"Sound of Freedom"'s poor execution, unconvincing performances, and heavy-handed storytelling left me feeling unsatisfied and regretful for wasting my time. Save yourself the trouble and avoid this movie at all costs.
Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty (2022)
LOVE it! It's FAAAANtasic.
This show reminds me of why I loved hoops so much in the 80s. I grew up in LA during that time and the Showtime Lakers were my favorite team. This show really captures that spirit well delivering some really great writing and acting. The casting is stellar top to bottom. The actors who play Kareem and Magic are outstanding. They have big futures ahead of them.
Like others I didn't have huge expectations but this show has quicky become one of my favorites. As long as you look at the show more as a fun fictional series based on the events that happened and not a documentary of sorts you'll be cool. The only one who doesn't like it seems to be Jerry West!
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Nice CGI I guess
I mean, I was bored to tears watching this. The actors were unlikable and the story non-existent. It was a slog getting through this. That's 2 weak Godzilla pics in a row and the first was just okay to me. Meh.
