The Twilight Samurai
1 October 2013
A samurai lives with his mother having dementia and his young children. He works hard to get out of the debt, so he is getting dirty and is called "Twilight Seibei". However, he does't forget the loyal mind. This film depends on samurai spirit, Bushido in Japan. I think Bushido exist in the roof of Japan and also forms Japanese mind. The Twilight Samurai can express that point so well. Not only samurai but also Japanese devoted woman is depicted. Sometimes there are scary scenes, for example; a duel between samurais, however I want many people who don't know about Japan at all to watch the film and to feel Japanese beautiful spirit.

Depatures
29 September 2013
Depatures is a Japanese film in 2008. A cellist lost his work, so he gets to work as a mortician. While he is worried about his new job and has trouble with his wife because of hi job, he is gradually matured as a mortician. This film would describe a Japanese beautiful spirit that even after someone's death people should take care of the dead to see them to the next world safely. I am proud of this Japanese tradition and culture. In addition to that, in Depature Japanese beautiful and great nature in the countryside like mountains and rivers appear on the screen. I think all people who watch it can feel and learn Japan more and more.

Enchanted
29 September 2013
This is a comedy and love story that A princess from the animated fairy tale suddenly appears to NY and runs a risk to experience the actual world with her pleasant friends. I think Enchanted has three important elements as a Disney film. First, it has enjoyable music. The characters sing a song and the background music is great. Next is a beautiful and luxurious costumes of the princess. Girls and Women are fascinated by them and they could feel as if they were a princess. Third, Enchanted is a funny story. That is essential to Disney films, so all people watching it can enjoy. Enchanted generously gives people dream, therefore I love this film.

The Sixth Sense
20 September 2013
This story is about a boy who can see and talk with the dead and a child psychologist who has trouble about her wife. The boy is isolated because he has the sixth sense that usual people don't have. I think this is not just a thriller film. This is a kind of heart-warming story. The most moving point is that just a little child'strange ability has great mission to tell the truth for people. Moreover, such the child and the adult who has trouble help each other to make up for their fault though there are many terrible and scary scenes the whole time. At the ending, however, I cannot help and stop shedding tears. This is the best thriller film I have ever seen.

500 Days of Summer
8 September 2013
This story depicts a relationship between a young man, Tom and a young woman, Summer in 500 days. Tom gets to like Summer in spite of her capricious personality. My first impression of the film is that Tom is always twisted around by Summer's little finger, so I thought the story ordinary love story at first. Though their relationship is not true, I was getting fascinated by their performance. Zooey Deschanel performs not only a pretty girl but also a selfish girl very well. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is also good actor. However the ending of the film is beyond my imagination. I was very disappointed at the ending, but it is a new kind of the ending of love story.

The King's Speech
7 September 2013
The King's Speech is focused on a King of the United Kingdom, George VI and his speech therapist. They make an effort together to treat George's stammering symptom. Anyway, I was so moved by this film the whole time. First, Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush are my favorite actors. I love their devotion to performance and especially I was surprised at Colin's precise performance as George VI, who suffered from stammering symptom. Also, Geoffrey's not only gentle but also some times strict attitude to support Colin is so touching. I think the partnership between Colin and Geoffrey is the best of all. After I watched the film, I felt my heart was getting warm.

Whacked!
27 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
In NY, suddenly people fall down one after another and the siren of ambulances is wailing all over the city. On the other hand, a man enjoys playing golf at the rooftop of the building, which might cause the accident in NY. In this way, the opposite situation is depicted in Whacked. I guess that as the title, whacked means very tired, this film tries to describe the American exhausted modern society through the man, also monochromatic pictures are used in Whacked. Therefore, I think they can make such the description of American society stand out and it is easy to convey such the situation to us. I was surprised at the ending of the film, but I feel the film not only brings us surprise but also implies that now American society has a serious problem.

Lifted

Two aliens try to abduct a sleeping man to a UFO at midnight. One alien tries to get the man, but makes repeated mistakes. On the other hand, the other alien seems to succeed in getting the man. However, it comes to an unexpected ending. This film is Pixar short film in 2006. I think Pixr film is always so exciting and moving that it never disappoints us. Moreover, it always gives an important messages to all of us. This time, it shows without words that people who try to do wrong can't realize their hope, no matter how they do their best. I felt that is pointed out in the funny way through Lifted. Also, I love the cute aliens. It makes us happy.

Gasman

A mother is helping her son and daughter to get out and two children leave for the Christmas party with their father. On the way to the party, they meet a woman with her son and daughter and they go with the family. At the party, the daughter feels it is strange that the other daughter is so attached to her father. This story is very confusing, but I guessed that all four children are his, though they have a different mother. By watching the film, I could feel stress of the children which they can't monopolize their parent' affection, moreover it wouldn't be surprised if that might cause a serious social problem. This film expresses the child's emotion well and tries to tell us the problem.

Paperman
10 July 2013
Paperman is the short animated film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2012. It is the romantic love story that a young man who leads a boring life has a chance encounter with a young woman that changes his life dramatically. I think one reason why Walt Disney films have been seen and loved globally for a long time is that they have a haunting and a memorable melody. Also in Paperman, depending on each scene, a different kind of background music like speedy or sweet music is playing and it is so impressive. In addition to music, my favorite point of the film is personification, which is one of the most important techniques of Walt Disney films. Many paper airplanes are personified. It's amazing. I'm looking forward to What Walt Disney Animation Studios will do next.

Embers
10 July 2013
In Embers, which was made in New Zealand in 2006, a woman waiting for her husband to return home from the World WarⅡis described. It is winter, so the ground is covered with snow and there isn't enough light to see well through the whole scene. I think that is the features of Embers. At first, because the character hardly talk, I tried to understand the story through their expression and chilly sight of the film. Therefore, after finishing the film, I couldn't put my impression into words and only my lonely feeling was left. I noticed that such poor and cold scenes or impression of the characters bring us loneliness. I couldn't understand the conclusion and what the film wants or tries to express in detail, however I could feel the character's emotion through such a thing.

Knick-Knack
10 July 2013
A snowman in the Snow dome wants to get out of it no matter what to join other toys which enjoy the summer vacation. Knick-Knack is a short animated film just 4 minutes long, but it is filled with a heart-warming and a bit sad and painful story. First, the snowman's move is so comical that I can feel happy. Moreover, his face is expressive, so I'm not bored at all through the whole film. Second, in particular I like this story in that the snowman tries all ways hard which he comes up with to get out of the snow dome. That action is so cute! The characters are all toys and can't talk of course, however they have their emotion and their will. I felt that point by watching this film.

The Lunch Date
10 July 2013
In this story, a white woman's view on black people is depicted. She misses the train, so she goes to the restaurant for lunch. Somehow, she has to have a salad with a black man unwillingly. The ending of the film is so amazing. At first sight, like the title 'date', I think this film seems to show a pleasant lunch time between the white woman and the black man. However, when I tried to consider the story deeply, I discovered that the story would imply the existence of racial discrimination. The Lunch Date was made in USA, so the director must want to convey a message that there should not be racial discrimination more to people through the story with interesting ending.

Fish Out of Water
26 June 2013
In Fish Out of Water, the sensitivity of a hero is described through his rowing his boat and he is gradually being bothered by facing the bad point of human being. First of all, I noticed that nobody in the film talks and I can hear only background music playing and the sound of the surface of the water.Nevertheless, I could imagine the feeling of the characters, for example; what they are thinking and what will happen next. Second, the screen is yellowish all the time, therefore I could get a warm sense from watching it. This film is short, however I think it is so exciting that people watching it can enjoy and use their imagination.

Father and Daughter
26 June 2013
Father and Daughter is a story that a daughter keeps waiting for her father who one day leaves her suddenly. It is the Duch animated short film and won the Academy Award for Animated Short Film in 2000. I think the reason why this film moves people is this: the background music and the pictures. The best characteristic of the film is that nobody in the film talks and there is only background music played by the accordion and the piano. Nevertheless, I could imagine what the characters are doing and thinking through not only calm, but also the speedy melody. In addition to the music, I was impressed by the pictures. They are not colorful but monotone color, however that makes people sad and painful all the more. Moreover, though this story is a kind of sadness, I felt something warm in my heart and happy. That is my favorite point of the film. I was moved so much.
