The Game (2014)
Just a Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy Knockoff.
The BBC TV series of the, classic, John Le Carre novel "Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy" is all too obvious as the basic template for this mess. "The Game" is no classic, it wanders all over the place without drawing the viewer in: Story lines are quickly opened - then forgotten, some characters appear without any real context and then quickly discarded. The story is not complex but a shambles of half baked, unbelievable, events and relationships. Such a shame the BBC has hung its hat on this tripe. (Recently released on the ABC in Australia 2021).
Greyhound (2020)
Short but sweet.
If you like wartime action movies you should like this as it's all action. It would have been better if it had a back story too, as it is it's the meat of a sandwich but no bread. Great sound and action sequences, even if the submarine encounters are somewhat OTT. Really worth viewing though.
Agatha Raisin (2014)
Rubbish at its best.
Absolute garbage. If you have the stomach to watch a complete series you'll notice that the relationships between many characters change between one episode and the next with no rhyme or reason. Revealingly some of the prinipal actors and their characters simply drop out during the series for no explanation whatsoever.
For the Love of Cars (2013)
On the road again.
Anyone with a passion for classic British cars should enjoy this series. Each series chooses, locates and then lovingly restores six classic British Family or Sports cars (once an early series Land Rover). The individual example of each vehicle is often selected (purchased) because of its interesting history.
There are also observations regarding some of the notoriously unreliable models; such as the Triumph 'Stag'. These are sometimes put to the test on the fully restored vehicle. In the case of the Triumph 'Stag' it was demonstrated, by extensive testing, that the car was very well designed and engineered. If properly assembled the 'Stag' would have been highly reliable i.e. its problems were caused by poor assembly practices and vehicles were passed out of the factory without proper quality control. The 'Stag' is now a much sort after prized classic. {I can't wait for the Triumph TR7 - I had one, and the TR7 had a similar reputation to that of the 'Stag'!!}
The final act (at series end) is to place each restored vehicle at Auction (some would call this act the low point of the series and a betrayal).
