Modern Family: New Kids on the Block (2019)
They clearly stopped caring about quality but...
Do they not remember this series is shot as a documentary? There is a generous amount of leeway when it comes to these types of shows, but Modern Family just broke the mold.
The opening shot of Alex walking in Arctic with coordinates on the screen was the most glaring "we don't give $@&% anymore and it shows" moment I've seen on TV.
Who filmed that? Did the documentary crew set up for an exterior shot in Antarctica? Would risking frostbite or death be worth it?
The quality dropped off five seasons ago but this simple scene treats the audience like they're idiots.
American shows need to learn from the British and end a show before it becomes something like this.
Disenchantment (2018)
Nothing seems to ever happen...
I've watched the first three seasons but couldn't tell you a single plot point, storyline, or memorable gag.
The characters come together, get separated, overcome some minor conflict, then find each other again to repeat the cycle.
Most jokes fall flat or make zero sense in the context of the fantasy world in which they exist.
Rewatch Futurama instead of wasting time on this show.
The Movies That Made Us: Back to the Future (2021)
Non-stop jump cuts.
I couldn't get through the first five minutes. It was jumping all over the place with constant cuts and "Wait - let's go back a minute!" edits.
The Orville (2017)
Star Trek with Family Guy Reference-Humor
It's a good show and very well made. However, the constant references to contemporary pop culture take me out of it.
Seinfeld, Avis Car Rental, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer are going to be long forgotten 100 years from now, let alone 400.
They'd have a much better product if they dropped all the "stuff you'll remember!" jokes. We already have Family Guy to remind us of everything that has ever existed.
