Black Adam (2022)
Dwayne Johnson...
The rock has to be the only actor who takes me entirely out of a film. The movie was ruined from the start when the rock is playing the same character with the same facial expressions and the same voice and employing no unique perspective required for an ancient super being. It seems like he's just come off the set of FF and is playing the same character despite Black Adam being a million times removed from the FF universe. I wanted to like the movie as I'm a massive superhero fan but it's almost impossible to with his performance and this script. There's no wonder why it's flopping hard and going to make less than the eternals (which sucked and was released during a pandemic) and Shazam. The rock made the budget of this explode and now he's ruined it.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: Mean, Green, and Straight Poured into These Jeans (2022)
Where is the meat on this burger?
When Marvel announced they were FINALLY doing a series with more than 6 episodes, fans rejoiced! But they halved the episode length to be shorter than Rick and Morty (~22 mins).
What we've received in turn is a TV show - now over halfway through the series - which has done absolutely nothing whatsoever. Jen is still largely unrelatable and someone the audience could not care for (in fact you could imagine an entire episode without her in it and it'd have the same effect). The culmination of 5 episode's worth of drama has had the 'bad guy' lose some childish, frivolous lawsuit (yes, that's it lmao) and after 2 hours the 'plot' (if there is one) hasn't done anything.
Honestly, 2 hours worth of runtime and what have we gotten? She-Hulk has come to slightly accept her title... that's it. Nothing else. Nothing more. No ground-level threat. No background drama. Nothing. 5 episodes - 2 hours - and we have had the smallest amount of characterisation, development and progress imagineable.
This show needed to hush the critics and the 'm-she-u' crowd and it's only emboldened them.
So bad.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: The People vs. Emil Blonsky (2022)
Why is everyone and everything so annoying
Marvel trying to do humour just does not work ... everyone and everything is dialled up to 11. This wouldn't be a problem if it was it's own thing but it exists in the MCU. Bukowski's character is absurd. Everyone's acting to Abomination is so over the top... I'm glad marvel is addressing mysoginists but it's so on the nose it's borderline farcical (also nobody in real life talks like Bukowski does so it just makes the points marvel is trying to make fall flat and be open to criticism). Also the cgi this episode is so substandard!
Tim Roth is amazing however and Pug is a welcomed new addition to the MCU.
I just can't get behind this.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law: A Normal Amount of Rage (2022)
Good for Marvel fans - Boring for the casual viewer
Im a big Marvel fan so I thought the opening episode was a average/good, but I caught my gf being very bored despite us trying to watch it together. A loooot of pretty bland and monotone exposition/dialogue from Bruce and the humor wasn't the best (but not over the top like Thor and episodes of What If). Can definitely see future episodes being better but this opener was just okay.
The Gray Man (2022)
Good, well written fun
Give it a watch, it's fun and energetic the whole way through. It may not be perfect but it also isn't a waste of time. Some sequel-baiting at the end which is lame but I it's a solid flick.
The Boys: The Instant White-Hot Wild (2022)
A little underwhelming
Even though the show tried to justify it, it made no sense for Butcher to suddenly change sides at the end and kill Soldier Boy. No one of importance dies... and the fight scene was lame. All that happened was that the guy who was introduced this season is now on ice... no progress has been made.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
It makes no sense to me
When the short run time was released, people said not to freak out as not all marvel films need to be bloated 2.5h slogs... and so this movie comes out and is all tell, no show, and has too little of the main villain that we're all dying to see. It's also paced weird and is too much tell and not enough show.
Just makes no sense to me. It was doomed to be inferior to ragnarok from the beginning.
Ms. Marvel: Time and Again (2022)
Who would have thought...
An MCU show would be poorly paced and weirdly edited yet again. Why are the lightest and more insignificant characters travelling time and being visited by multidimensional beings? Why are the stakes so high all the time? Phase 4 is a mess.
Ms. Marvel: Destined (2022)
Damage control
Damage control are so overly villainous and "mean" that it seems like a parody. 3 eps in and Kamala's use of her powers are boring and monotonous ... and yes she's still new to it but we're halfway through the series. Also it's just kind of boring regardless of the target audience.
Still enjoyable and more creative than most marvel projects, though.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part IV (2022)
Nonsensical writing
I am truly at a loss here... characters change their minds with little motivation or reasoning. Fighting is atrocious, light sabers kill people without cutting anything (it's like a baseball bat lol), Reva continues to be a completely uncompelling character, the good guys once again show up at the very last moment to save the day.
Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts (2022)
Alan Rickman?
They give one of the greatest actors of all time who played one of most important character in the series like 10 seconds. Alan Rickman deserved much more time and attention than a brief comment from Emma Watson. Also too much behind the scenes and director chat... we needed more new stuff from the cast. Why get Gary oldman and Daniel to meet for 15 seconds of conversation? What a waste.
Hawkeye: So This Is Christmas? (2021)
Echo?
The show did NOTHING to make me care for Echo and her plot. I can't believe they didn't even tease her own solo project. She isn't interesting in the slightest according to this show. I'd legit rather see 6 episodes of Eleanor's business dealings than some more poorly-choreographed fight-scenes. Ugh.
