Dieu est grand, je suis toute petite (2001)
Good? Bad? Hmmmm! (end spoiler)
First of all I'm a big fan of french cinema. Audrey Tautou offers a great quality performance but offers nothing original. Edouard is is natural self (except asterix). But the director of the movie appeared to be uninspired and trying too much to make something special out of the film. Some of the shots just don't work (especially at the beginning). The use of jump cuts are at some places well placed and some others too weired. Once you get into the story you are alright but the 100 braking up scenes and the annoying and cheeky characters lead the film to a ending that offers no satisfaction at all. I don't know about you guy's but this film is not one I'd wait desperately for a sequel. The To be conti nued just put doughts and seems unreal. We can guess that she is not going to get back with him (like she did with her first boyfriend). Why this ending?
War of the Worlds (2005)
I was petrified by the atmosphere created in the first half of movie
I don t know about you but I was watching the film in the cinema with my friends when I suddenly panicked by watching the film. The atmosphere created by Steven Spielberg, the cries of the girl, hundreds of cars flying all over the place. I was so petrified I nearly left the theatre. Never as scared as when I watched Texas Chainsaw massacre. It main seem weired to you. But It looked so real. But all of this reality moved on to disappointment a bit before the middle of the film with the appearance of Tim Ribbins, not doubting at all his performance. The pace just suddenly stopped and the typical suspense scene starts. So predictable. Seeing the Extraterrestrials also stopped the scare. And the pink and blue colours in the sky looked fake and didn t go well with the high tech special effects which are no doubt the best I ve ever seen in a blockbuster movie. And suddenly it ended! What? OK the book is a major art work and the moral at the end is great. But did the film spend so much time around this story of hiding in the boring cave? in all the first half of the movie is breathtaking and probably the best art work on special effects can be seen. Spielberg added a lot of humour in this first half (Tom cruise making sandwiches). The acting is alright and makes sense. But suddenly it gets boring and ends. First half of the film gets a 8 out of ten and second part a 4. But then again this is just one mans opinion.
