Napoleon Dynamite (2004)
Awesome Movie!
This movie is great! It's great because it is hilarious and doesn't have some really complex story that's hard to understand. Heck, it doesn't even really have a story, just mainly goes through the life of Napoleon. But that's what makes it so great! It doesn't have any graphics, big scenery or anything. It seems like this was probably a pretty cheap movie to make, but it turned out great! Don't watch it expecting complicated dialogues and a complex story, just watch it for fun, to relax. I bet that certain scenes or quotes will stick with you, and it does actually have good messages in it. MINOR SPOILERS HERE:**One example is that Napoleon takes his chances and when Pedro doesn't have a skit prepared, he goes out and does an awesome dance because he doesn't want to see Pedro let down. Talk about friendship!** I'm sure you will most likely love the movie because it is hilarious without having to use gross or nasty jokes. Plus it is pretty family friendly. The only thing perhaps is the ad to make breasts bigger, but other than that the movie is really clean. I recommend everyone watches Napoleon Dynamite at least once because if you don't you will really be missing out on a flipping sweet movie!
Go Figure (2005)
A Disney Movie Aimed at Older Kids and Younger Teens
This was a Disney Channel Original Movie, so it can't be expected to be a masterpiece, but it was entertaining and had a good theme.
It centers around Katelin who is one of the best figure skaters around where she lives. A Russian figure skating coach decides to help make her the best, but her parents won't pay for her to go to boarding school. By pulling a few strings Natasha(the Russian coach) manages to get her a full scholarship at the same school, but for hockey instead. Katelin has to work extra hard if she wants to be the best. As well as keeping it a secret that she's a figure skater because all the girls on the hockey team despise figure skaters.
The movie was good. The story was somewhat unrealistic(like in the aspect that she gets a full scholarship for a hockey team), but not way predictable. It entertained me and had me rooting for Katelin. I'd recommend it to all kids around 14 or so and younger. And to parents if they can understand that it's aimed at the kids and not them.
Pumpkin (2002)
Seems To Have Two Different Views.....
From being on here I've seemed to notice that people either love the movie or hate it. It seems about equal in the hate to love ratio. So if you want to watch you will be taking a jump and won't know if you like it or not until you've seen it. But for me, I am in the love section, so I would recommend everyone watches it at least once before judging it.
The movie centers around Carolyn (Christina Ricci), the beautiful, popular girl with the boyfriend all the other girls want. Everything is perfect for Carolyn, until her sorority decides to volunteer to help mentally challenged kids prepare for the Challenged Games so that they can win Sorority of the Year. Carolyn's partner is Pumpkin (Hank Harris), and while at first she is confused and scared of him, she soon finds out there is more to him deep down. A love interest in Pumpkin could make her looked down upon by everyone who surrounds her, and possibly ruin her perfect life.
A lot of people seem to like bashing the film, while others simply talk about how much they like it. Pumpkin is one of, if not, my favorite movie, so I would give it a 10/10 because it has everything I like; not because of the acting, filming, directing, etc. I'd recommend you to watch Pumpkin and decide how you feel about it.
I also find people think it is offending (haters) or sweet and touching (lovers). You can probably tell where I fit in. ;)
Reality Bites (1994)
Pretty Good
I found this movie to be a good watch. The bashers of the movie probably just hate one of the actors or actresses anyway, so they just have to bash on every movie they are in.
The story is about Lelaina(Winona Ryder) and her friends struggling in life. Troy(Ethan Hawke) is Lelaina's best friend and is constantly getting fired from jobs. His dad has cancer as well and could die. Vickie(Janeane Garofalo) has taken up a job at the Gap, and is also scared of getting AIDs because one of her friends got it. And Sammy(Steve Zahn) is trying to deal with telling his parents about his sexuality.
Then Michael(Ben Stiller) comes along and gets involved with Lelaina. It causes a sort of life triangle where eventually Lelaina has to choose between Michael or Troy.
I guess this isn't exactly that great a summary, but that's okay. I recommend you watch the movie. You may find you like it, like me.
8/10
Million Dollar Baby (2004)
An Enjoyable Film
Going into the movie theater I wasn't sure what to expect. I had heard a little about Million Dollar, but not a whole lot. But now I have to admit it's just as good as they say it was. I'm not really a boxing fan, but that didn't take away from my movie experience at all. It was a very enjoyable movie with a good story, the characters were likable, and the acting was good.
The story is about a girl, Maggie(Hilary Swank), who wants to be a boxer. She is seeking Frankie(Clint Eastwood) to be her trainer, but Frankie is reluctant because "girlie, tough ain't enough". That's all I'm really going to go into the story because I'd hate to be the one to ruin it for somebody else. Anyway great acting from Clint Eastwood, Hilary Swank, and Morgan Freeman. I really thought they were the people they were playing.
Well, an excellent movie for anyone(except young children). Go with your friends or whoever and just enjoy it. 10/10
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (1993)
Better Than People Say
I don't know what it was about this show, but I was obsessed with it as a kid. I know it may seem stupid to an adult, but I guess for you to truly get it you have to be a kid. When I was a kid watching this show I used to really get into it. Heck when the show ended I would run outside and pretend I was the white/green ranger. I had one of the video games for the Game Gear even. I stopped watching Power Rangers when they started making all these new series that weren't half as good as this. I'll admit to an adult this seemed really stupid, but look at the Power Rangers now, it's even more absurd. I would recommend this to a little kid, because to me this series was magic and brought me many good times.
