Saat po long: Taam long (2017)
Come to see Louis Koo act and Tony Jaa fight.
Paradox is a HK action film directed by Wilson Yip. A tough guy cop and helicopter parent, Lee winds up in Thailand looking for his daughter after she disappears due too his aggressive parenting. What stars as a disappearance ends up being a government cover up of a stolen organs ring.
The film is of course helmed by Yip and the action is choreographed by the venerable Sammo Hung. This film has all the makings of your classic mid eighties HK cop revenge drama only with a Hollywood budget. With a star studded cast led by Louis Koo the acting is acting great and worthy of all the praise it receives however some of the writing is a bit predictable. With Sammo Hung's direction for the action sequences you know it will be an action spectacle, but I found Louis Koo to be a bit stiff and anything that looked like it was outside of standard self defense maneuvers seemed like it didn't fit, Wu Yue, Chris Collins and Tony Jaa really carried this film when it came to the martial arts part beautifully however. My only issue was how brief Tony Jaa's part was in the film. It felt a bit like the were trying to give the movie a bit more legitimacy by having a large Thai star in it. All in all this is a great action drama worthy of Its predecessors in the Wilson Yip filmography. If you like great martial arts and a pretty solid story this is a good pick.
Yat do king sing (1993)
Good fights, stunted acting, standard story.
Probably some of the best martial arts choreography in a film but some of the most hacky acting. Stay for the fights.
