Echo (2023)
What if you don't do sign?
Who was the moron that thought it would be a good idea to not provide subtitles for all the sign language in the 1st episode? You lost me purely because nearly half of the dialogue was in sign! Total idiot move on the moron that figured it was ok to not let your audience in on nearly half of what was going on.
I think I would have watched the whole series if I could know fully what was being said.
Why is it that every Native American movie has to be mystical and have hidden meanings everywhere, don't they have some of their people living normal everyday lives?
Cut the B. S. movies and create movies about the true stories about Native Americans that were special or heroic.
Endeavour (2012)
Great ending to the best detective/crime solving series
This was the best final episode of a detective series I have ever watched. Having been a fan of this gentra, beginning with the Philo Vance detective mysteries of the early thirties, I don't think I have enjoyed a series more then I have the Endeavour episodes of season 1-8. But season 9, especially episode 3, is in a class by itself. Definitely the best writing, acting, music, background and locations, costumes and atmosphere worthy of a 10 score.
My one pice of advise to viewers: don't watch Inspector Morse before watching all of Endeavour first. But this advise is what; twenty years too late for most of Inspector Morse fans.
I do think that Shaun Evans was a horrible choice for the role of Endeavour because he is too damn good looking when compared to his later self John Thaw. I ask myself 'what the heck happened to Endeavour? Was he in a horrible car wreck that screwed up his face?'
No offense to John Thaw but if a woman married Shaun Evans only to watch him turn into John Thaw? Oh well, I did watch all the Inspector Morse episodes and all the Inspector Lewis episodes as well.
I do have a question concerning Sam saying he was going to join the police force: are ex-convicts allowed to become police officers in the UK? Especially with a dishonorable discharge from the military for desertion in the face of the enemy? Just asking.
Thank you Colin Dexter and Russell Lewis for the chance to share time with Morse and all the fine actors in this series.
The Old Way (2023)
Nick Cage did well, young girl did it better
So other reviewers didn't like this movie and some though it needed better writing? I respectfully disagree. This movie is one of the better western cowboy good vs evil movies that has appeared it the last few years. The best of this genre being 1893. I watched The Old Way and didn't even take a bathroom break.
I recommend this movie to all of you that cowboy movies from the 40s & 50s were the best; some shooting, some killings, some dialog and the good guys (sort of good/sort of not guys) winning.
Another two movies that are worth a watching are 'The ballad of Buster Scruggs' and 'Old Henry'.
The English (2022)
What an interesting and engaging western story
If you are a fan of 1883, then this is a must see. At 1st I was not liking the constant flashbacks to fill in the gaps of the story but in the end it played out nicely.
This most definitely a series worthy of Emmy nominations for best series, best actress (Emily Blunt), best actor (Chase Spencer), as well as for best costumes, and screenplay.
The ending is very sad but a fitting ending to a great climatic final bloodshed.
When people, like me, say they don't make great westerns any more; movies like these show me that yes they do and they can make them even better then in the 30-50s.
I feel very fortunate to have seen this series and hope that more western stories as good as this one and 1883.
Professor T (2021)
Good Police drama, great music throughout
This is by far a much better acting job by Ben Miller then any I have seem him in including Death in Paradise. The murder cases are not too difficult to solve and Professor T is able to figure who is (and who isn't) a murderer based not on evidence but by DNA and there predisposition to commit a horrific crime (not that I believe this since murderers come in all ages, sexes, races, and religion and whether you are a criminal depends on whether you are wealthy and/or privileged or simply poor).
But although this is a top notch series, I must confess that the reason I watch (and listen) it is because of the wonderful music that is used in the background. Wow! I simply enjoy the song and music selections and how the music is intertwined with the stories.
Andor (2022)
Is this a continuation of the Star Wars Saga or is it about the Imperial Empire?
Want an honest review? This is a colossal waste of time for Star Wars fans since the majority of the show takes place among Imperial soldiers / bureaucrats that, as a Star Wars fan, I care nothing about. How do kids stay awake watching this when it is 95% dialogue and maybe 5% action.
Whose idea was it to arm the "guerrillas" with Earth 1940s weapons? Isn't that the equivalent of native Americans using rocks and sticks against the armies of THE FUTURE since in this timeline we are more then 2-400 years in the future?
I can't stretch my imagination this far out. Sorry and nor should anyone be expected to do so.
Kleo (2022)
Very entertaining and keeps you wanting it to go on
Truly an enjoyable show that didn't matter that it was in German. The young lady that played Kleo was so much fun to watch and "Sven" was a great sidekick.
Hope they do a year 2, seems the energy continued during the ending credits.
The translation was well done.
Signora Volpe (2022)
Finally a woman playing detective that doesn't need a man
Watched this series expecting the usual boy and girl duo where the man does all the muscle and the woman the brains. No it's not! Signora Volpe is both the brains and muscle in this well done detective series. Only watched episode one but will watch two and three for sure.
I'd like to add that the writing passes the 'could this really happen?' test with flying colors.
Gunsmoke: Lijah (1971)
Story did not follow Matt Dillion procedures for evidence
I agree with wdavidreynolds review but must add that the lack of Matt Dillion, or Newley, discussing the gun / bullets that killed the family is not in keeping with many times Matt talked about the type of bullet and caliber. It is very obvious that the rifle being carried by Lijah fires a large bullet (maybe a 50 caliber) and from what is visible to the viewer is a lack of huge body damage / loss of blood from victims. Plus Lijah's rifle looks to be single action which would have allowed the victims to escape or to get a weapon to fight back. So, in my opinion, the writer of this story sure screwed up. The only weapon that could have killed the three people so close together was a repeater rifle or a hand gun. Lijah did not have either and the difference in size of the bullet would have eliminated him as a suspect.
Gunsmoke: Charlie Noon (1969)
Something not right with the picture info for Ron Howard
In reading the info for Ron Howard it states that his birthday is 1954 which is probably right. But the pictures that show Opie going on a date on the Andy Griffith Show says they're from 1960. This can't be right because Opie is at least 12 in those pictures not 6. Can this be verified?
Gunsmoke: The Mark of Cain (1969)
1st appearance of a black man in Gunsmoke
Even though it has been historically recorded that a least 20% of the cowboys were black men and that black people made contributions to the pioneering spirit that made settling the west possible, it only took 14+ years for Gunsmoke to have a black man appear on the show. Am I mistaken?
Gunsmoke: Railroad! (1968)
How quickly the people of Dodge forget their friends and neighbors
I have watched close to 400 episodes of Gunsmoke and the one glaring storyline,in my opinion, is that back in those days the people didn't much care about their friends and neighbors. They would turn on them in a minute on a lie or to make a buck or two. I venture to say that this happened in 20-40% of the episodes, this one being no exception.
Gunsmoke: Bad Lady from Brookline (1965)
Who ever said that Betty Hutton could act or sing or dance?
I read all the reviews and I have say that I can't disagree with the low mark reviews. I really love Gunsmoke, and if I remember correctly, this is the worst IMDB rated episode.
Sure glad Betty Hutton wasn't around to see how badly her guest staring role did on this show with the fans.
Gunsmoke: Dry Well (1964)
Kitty knew, and Quint could have stopped the nonsense
I can't believe how poorly written this episode was and there really wasn't much the actors could do with the story.
1st of all Kitty overheard two of Yuma's lovers arguing and threatening to kill Dave but didn't tell Matt. Kitty goes and snitches to Matt about petty things she's overheard but she didn't tell him about the threats to Dave's life?
Quint could have taken the old man's gun repeatedly BEFORE they tied him in wire yet didn't. The old man even holsters his gun and Quint still doesn't make a move even though, unless he is real stupid, he knows the old man and son are going to may be kill him.
This was a very unbelievable story.
Gunsmoke: Ex-Con (1963)
Error in "Goofs - Factual errors" section
Someone stated as a factual error that when Chester arrives at Leo Pitts cabin 'two days possibly three' had passed and the body would have been rigid from Rigor Mortis. This not a fact based on science. Rigor Mortis sets in about 8 hours and can last from 24 to 84 hours. So yes, the body could have passed through rigor mortis and the chemical change returned to allow for limpness.
Gunsmoke: A Hat (1967)
Great story, IMO; best of the gunsmoke episodes
I have been binging on Gunsmoke for two weeks and of the color episodes this is by far the best. Truly enjoyable from the acting to the story telling. A must watch episode.
1883 (2021)
An Epic Western told by excellent writers
No, this western isn't historically correct in all aspects of the time period and there are flaws but after watching hundreds of western movies and more then a thousand movies, and rating many movies here on IMDB, this is my 1st 10 rating.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the 1st eight episodes and look forward to the last episodes with a heavy heart knowing that, even if there is a season two, these have been the best western stories ever committed to film.
Thank you to the writers, actors, directors and everyone else that made these stories happen for us fans of the gendre.
I tried watching Yellowstone and stopped after a couple episodes and don't plan on going back now to watch the rest. Yellowstone is a Five maybe a six rating. Not even close to the quality of 1883.
Big Shot (2021)
This is what happens when the good writing meets decent acting
Very surprised at how much I liked this the 1st episode of this series. Very watchable sports show. Worth a try folks.
Nobody (2021)
Don't compare Hutch to John Wick, he's just a family man
This was one entertaining movie. I didn't like the Saul character in Breaking Bad but do like the Series 'Saul'. Go figure. But Hutch is a new breed of action man for the generation of men that stay home and take care of their family.
I would recommend this film to anyone that likes watching action thrillers.
My hats off to the folks that believed Bob Odenkirk could play Hutch and make him believable. Great job on making a movie that will become a classic for sure.
The Wilds (2020)
The premise doesn't make sense in the real world
When I watch a movie that is taking place in today's (2021) world it has to make sense and meet my "it could happen" standard. This movie could not happen because it is based on the flawed assumption that kidnapping underage girls and keeping them isolated isn't not only illegal but immoral and borderline human trafficking.
No parent in their right mind would agree to placing their daughters in harms way for ANY reason for the 23 days the film narrative is based on.
Furthermore, it doesn't end people! No the writers decided to end the 10th episode with a new B. S. story narrative of boys stuck on an island. So we have to wait for the next season to see the girls released or couldn't they not figure out what to do or how to do this part of the series.
I gave it a generous 5, trust me it is actually the worst 10 part series I have ever watched. Could have been done in two 1 hour episodes. At least I would have saved myself 8 or so hours.
Resident Alien (2021)
Could have been so much better...
This series has several issues that need fixing very quickly:
1. "Big Black" has got to go. The whole character story line is awful, his lines just suck, and his demeanor doesn't fit this small town in Colorado.
2. Why does the mayor of these small towns in sitcoms have to be stupid or naive?
3. Why do all the single millennials waste their conversation talking like lowlife cretins using f bombs in every other sentence?
4. It is so irritating to watch beautiful women throwing themselves at men that have no personality such as the doctor. So unbelievable, he talks like a person with a brain injury.
I do not recommend this series until it makes efforts to correct it self.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
An unexpected gem of a movie
I try to see as many movies as I can with Thomas Jane and was looking g forward to his part in the movie. But the unexpected surprise was in the great acting job by Isabel Mays as his daughter facing her own demons just as classmates start shooting up the school and students the week of senior prom.
Good solid acting by all actors, a decent script and cinematography.
This is an excellent flick for popcorn and relaxing in front 9 a fireplace. Well done!
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Masterpiece! Best Sports Movie in a decade, one of Netflixs finest
When I saw the 8.4 rating here on IMDB, I had to try it since anything over 8 is a must watch now a days right? Well now I am only wondering how anyone could watch this miniseries and not rate it a 9 or 10. You want drama? Check. You want great acting? Check? You want great period costumes? Check. You want a knock Em dead sound track and background music? Check. Excellent cinematography? Check.
This miniseries has it all. Even the graphics that they use to depict Beth Harmon ' s on the ceiling chess games fits perfectly in the world the film makers designed.
The emotional highs in the last episode were the best I've experienced in a longtime and remind that great movies are still possible.
Thank you to the director and the producers for putting such a fine effort to tell a wonderful story.
Sarah Cooper: Everything's Fine (2020)
Trump kidnapped Sarah Cooper and made her do this show...
Ha, just kidding about the kidnap thing but this show was the worst bid of TV nonsense I have ever watched. Remember the audience in the movie 'The Producers' when 'Springtime for Hitler' was playing? Yeah that was my expression as I watched one hour of the most idiotic bunch of sketches ever. I mean ever!
I would rather put needles in my eyes then watch that again. What a waste of talent!
I have enjoyed tremendously watching Sarah Coopers 1-3 minutes of her doing the Trumps but this piece of garbage only goes to show the limits to Sarah's talents not how diverse she can be.
Close the door on this and weld it shut.
The Commander (2003)
Not the best but it will do
I have the only watched the 1st two episodes (Fraudster and Virus) so my review and rating is based on these episodes.
In my opinion this show would have been much better if they would have simply eliminated the role of Commander completely. This role alone has no actual bearing on the cases the detectives are involved in solving and only serves to muddle the viewers train of thought. How does such an incompetent person, with so much personal baggage, reach a position so high in the UK police force? Or is it the intent of this police drama to show that a woman is just as capable as a man of following the Peter Principal and being promoted until they reach a level of total incompetence? If the later is true, then I apologize because in this they have succeeded.
In these times of Covid 19 I have been searching for a good police detective drama and folks I have to say that this isn't one of them. But since I have almost run out of options, it gets a 6 rating. God I hope the Commanders sister dies BEFORE the next episode....
