Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap (2022)
An honest and balanced portrait of Batak family and its cultural values
Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap is finally out on Netflix and I wanted to prove what most viewers have been said positively about this movie. And I totally agree with them.
I am Batak and I can relate to almost all of the situations, drama, values, critics, and messages that Bene wished to convey to the audiences. Critics being well-delivered are about Batak men masculinity, parent-children rigid relationship, gender inequality, and the holiness of Batak culture.
Its setting and location could not be more perfect than this, and I did not miss small details like the red plates and glasses, that 'special' terpal on the culture ceremony, and those fried spicy dencis or sardens that have reminded me of my childhood memories.
For me Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap is a top notch and honest family drama, and truly deserved its reputation. Hope more people would watch it and get the messages.
Peace and horas!
Der Parfumeur (2022)
What did I just watch???
What did I just watch??? The movie started good with interesting storyline and it kept me wondering how the end would be. However, after 40-50 minutes watching, I 'smelled' something fishy or suspicious about this movie, yet I have been successfully seduced and could not rejected this movie scent. If I can be honest to you, I still don't know what was happened to me and why I have spent my precious time to watch this movie. This movie had left me confused, lost and stranded in a strange land without any food, gas or communication tools to seek for help. Please, please do watch this movie and help me to find out the whole points of this life.
Breaking Boundaries: The Science of Our Planet (2021)
The future of the planet is in our hands
It is definitely worth of your 1 hour 13 minutes time to watch this science-based documentary about how humanity has the dominant role, as Sir David Attenborough perfectly highlighted on his closing narrative, as the only Earth's conscience and brain, whether to lead the world and its ecosystems to the danger zones by continuously doing our business as usual, or to secure the future with a healthy and fresh air, clean water, stable climate, nutritious land, and resilient planet, by doing everything we can to not break the planetary boundaries.
Perempuan tanah jahanam (2019)
A must watch for horror movie fans! Intensely creepy.
I always enjoy watching horror movie with a good story telling. Perempuan Tanah Jahanam is Joko Anwar's masterpiece, better than Pengabdi Setan. Scoring is really unique and somehow will keep you feel uncomfortable and tense all the time, added with constant creepiness of the setting and believable acts. Not so much scary jump moments, but believe me, this kind of horror doesn't really need it.
Bravo Joko Anwar!
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Totally garbage!
This is my first time to write a review in IMDB, as I feel it is necessary to at least adding one more disappointment to GOT's last season. I wish to reiterate someone's comment that it's better the Whitewalkers had won and last episode was complete silent, just show all the beautiful sets and landscapes, without human, no scripts needed. That would be perfect. And the writers could ease their minds to write garbage for another movie.
