A Touch of Frost (1992–2010)

Simply the Best!
31 January 2024
What can I say that hasn't been mentioned by other fans, David Jason, Bruce Alexander, John Lyons ( my fav) make this series my very favorite. Part time actors are perfect in their roles like Caroline Harker, Matt Bardock are great recurring characters. It's always fun to see who is going to pop up on an episode. Philip Jackson showing up as a DS was great. That particular episode was brilliant. A Touch of Frost is, for me, a very interactive show. How many shows have a leader who has mistaken who done it is often incorrect. I find myself yelling at him for being so thick and just plain wrong but no matter, it's his engaging self that makes us laugh when he gets it.

I also find amusing how women like him compared to poor Morse who gets shot down almost every time. 42 episodes all riveting. A really wonderful show..

Couldn't Make It Through
10 December 2023
I tried once then twice than 3 times to make it through this train wreck of a movie. It was just plain bad. Although it wasn't great, I preferred Coming 2 America.

The parents Eddie Murphy and Tracee Ellis Ross were fine . The rest of the cast were ok, the standout was Madison Thomas.

Now the worst was by far Jillian Bell. The fake accent and the acting was just plain awful. Nothing to see here...just move along.

Well, that's the problem. She was so mind numbingly bad, I just couldn't get past her. Absolutely charmless.

All Christmas movies have a humbug like George Bailey's Mr Potter. But this character is, well I just don't know what.

So Worth Watching...again and again
28 October 2023
Many, many years ago my son gave me the dvd set of Sherlock Holmes from Adventures to Memoirs. I find myself watching so much dreck on TV that it was time for a change of pace.

I pulled out the set and started binge watching.

There will never be anyone who epitomizes the role of Sherlock better than Jeremy Brett. The two actors, David Burke and Edward Hardwicke were equally brilliant as Dr. Watson.

Watching it again has been a joy. There are quite a number of stars who turned up in the episodes, which makes it all the better.

If you haven't watched the series, please do. It's British programming at its zenith.

The Cast...is Awesome.
22 January 2023
I found this mini series quite by accident. Although it can be a bit stagey and talky, I really enjoyed it. It's not about the son, it's the dad. Can't recall many biographies or documentaries about King Henry VII. I think John Maxwell is awesome. Then as the series progresses we have Geoffrey Palmer, John Castle, Rachel Kempson, and. Peter Bowles, all early in there careers.

I like the production value and the costumes look right. It maybe a tad long but that didn't bother me too much. I binged for 6 hrs took a break..LOL then watched the final seven.

I always thought Henry VII was an interesting character, from being a loved King only to become miserly and miserable later in life. He'd make a great Psychological study.

The other upside was seeing some great acting from people I never her of. Bruce Hodgkins, Norma West, Hugh Sullivan and especially Marigold Sharman.

It takes great acting to make a rather talky production watchable and it certainly is for me.

Nay to the naysayers!
8 December 2022
Just completed a binge watch of Wednesday and there will be no spoilers here. I knew from the beginning who it was so no surprise there. People refer to the Wednesday on the tv show as comparison. You should compare her more to the Wednesday in the movies. She was absolutely going to electrocute Pugsley but got stopped by her mother, then she tried to kill the baby but Gomez caught him. She was definitely darker in the movies.

The ride took you to and fro..some red herrings. But it was absolutely interesting from beginning to end. The only miscasting (I thought was Luis Guzmen) but if you look back to Charles Addams cartoons Gomez was short and fat. So he fits the "bill" so to speak.

Warning: Spoilers
I will admit that I guessed the murderer early on, but it was a fun ride watching them get there. Why do people constantly slam a show for being what it is...a bit of fun. Any show that can hold interest, especially when you know who it is, is doing its job..to entertain.

Just like in Cabot Cove we are supposed to believe that this bucolic county has all these murders. How can you accept that premise that it's silly and condemn the writing for being the same?

The chemistry Neil Dudgen,Fiona Dolman, Nick Hendrix and Annette Badland have is terrific. Every relationship is believable.

The underlying lie is believable. Fraud for cures of diseases is a very real thing. It was a bit of fun getting to it.

Yes or No Good or Bad
22 October 2022
Years ago there was a movie theater owned by a young guy from the 60's to about early 80's. The theater would have midnight showings for non mainstream movies.

It was in the early 70's we went to see What's New Pussycat? And Casino Royale. It was one of the best times for us.

As I read people either love it or hate it, I have to cast my vote for the movie lovers.

I can't believe people consider it a "Bond" movie when see it's a total spoof.

Every so often I'll ask a friend if the saw it and when the say they haven't nothing thrills me more than to rent it from Amazon.

I can honestly say everyone enjoyed it. Loving spoofs, as a fan of Leslie Nielsen, I highly recommend giving it a shot.

I enjoy it today as I did back in the 70's.

Too Funny For Words
23 March 2022
I honestly have never seen a show from the British Isles that is consistently funny episode after episode. This show is a must see. The cast of Dermot Morgan (RIP),Ardal O' Hanlon, Frank Kelly (RIP) and Pauline McLynn play their parts to perfection. Every episode rates from very funny to hysterically hilarious.

If you are a lover of Irish/British humor this show is not to be missed. Thanks to IMDB for keeping it on the roister, please check it out before it disappears. You Definitely won't be sorry. Just an additional note, the reoccurring cast are just wonderful!

Is it the acting?
1 December 2020
Like most reviewers, I loved the first 2 seasons. I was elated to find out that Olivia Coleman would be the queen. She is a great actress, just not for this role. It's not just Olivia but Helena Bonham Carter and especially Tobias Menzies...just plain bad acting. The 3rd season into the 4th is borderline boring, if not tedious. And then we bring in Emma Corrin, who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag, so to speak". This series went from can't miss to a boring snoozefest....way to ruin a good thing.

What a Wonderful End of Wonderful Era
6 October 2020
How fitting that the last Sherlock should be one of the best and Christmas themed as well. Plenty has been written about how the illness has taken its toll on Jeremy Brett. I am grateful he continued for as long as he did. There will never be anyone who could take such command of a role and totally make it his own like JB. Am a fan of Joanna David and with Ciaran.Hinds and Deborah Findlay its a great cast for the last stand..RIP Jeremy Brett

Wow...What an Episode!
4 October 2020
This is one of the best episodes of Sherlock in all his adventures. Kim Thomson, who I first saw in Cover Her Face, an Inspector Dalgliesh mystery, is terrific in this episode. Sherlock's compassion and the care that he and Watson share is in this episode is so compelling. I was riveted from beginning to end.

Absolutely one of my favorite episodes of The Return series. Jeremy Brett owns this role and shows it in Silver Blaze. Pure deduction and reasoning solved this matter. An episode that shows Sherlock at his most brilliant..Bravo!

The One The Only Sherlock Holmes
30 September 2020
As posters have stated, Jeremy Brett is the epitome of Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. When I was growing up it was Basil Rathbone/ Nigel Bruce series that introduced me to the characters. Then I read the books. The trouble I had after reading Conan Doyle's stories was the character of Watson. Truly Holmes never suffered fools so why was Bruce's character such a bumbling fool. David Burke and Edward Hardwicke had the best portrayals of Watson...wise and intelligent as he should be. I would say if you haven't watched these shows you are missing one of the greatest British Mystery series of all time.

Love Neil..
8 August 2020
Still bingeing on MM and finally came to the end of the John Nettles era. Always enjoyed Neil Dudgeon especially in the Mrs. Bradley Mysteries. He's a great asset to the show and brings some fresh air into the series. Having Samantha Bond and David Warner ( he looks so old for 69) in the first John era episode was a coup. Very entertaining and really fun....loved when the guy said to Ben..."don't go Sweeney on me. All in all a good episode leaving me to want to see more.

So Much Fun..
2 August 2020
Let me preface this post by saying I love all Midsomers, from the subpar to the sublime. Loved seeing two actors from Pride and Prejudice, Susannah Harker and David Bamber again. I've been bingewatching for days and this episode I really enjoyed. I guessed from the beginning who the murderer was but that didn't ruin it for me. Getting to the conclusion was a fun ride. Being an American I enjoy most British series. This episode was worth every second of its 138 minutes. Just to compare..I could NEVER bingwatch Murder She Wrote...but this whole series is worth your investment of time. FUN episode!

So Bingeworthy
30 November 2019
I had heard about this show from others but hadn't checked it out because frankly sitcoms bore me. Well it was a quiet Thanksgiving so I decided to give it a shot. I'm on the lastest season and totally awestruck by this show. Kudos to Eugene and Daniel Levy for a funny, touching show. Never a fan of Chris Elliott, here he actually has a decent role. The rest of the cast are simply superb and pitch perfect for their roles. Catherine O'Hara is terrific as Eugene Levy's wife. They make a formidable team. So worthy....everyone and a special shoutout to Jennifer Robertson..one of my most favorite characters. A show not to be missed.

Oh yeah Mario!
7 July 2019
This movie is really cheesy and has some really bad acting. Its's a pleasure to see Gina so young, and she's the second reason to watch this. The primary reason is the stunning, gorgeous singing of the late great Mario Del Monaco. In my humble opinion he is one of the greatest artists from the golden age of opera. He's the reason to watch this silly movie

Finally Morse got his DS and new DC to order around. I'm not going to go into detail to this great start to Season 5, but as others have indicated, we really see the older Inspector Morse shining through. So excited about Season 6...another 6 episode season..

Its All In The Cast
22 November 2018
I adore this series and the reason is the cast. Even in the not so great episodes..it has greatness. The cast is one of the best in this genre of show. Shaun Evans..Roger Allam...Sean Rigby..and lets not forget my favorite..Anton Lesser, the man you love to hate, but changes in time. This is one of the most well rounded casts you're going to get. I haven't missed any episodes and eagerly awaiting the next. Watch them you won't be sorry

A Good One
14 November 2018
I really enjoyed this episode...so much going on but not hard to follow. As usual great performances from all the regulars and I love the relationship between John and Sarah..such a fun couple. Of all the sidekicks from the beginning of the series I had the hardest time getting used to Nick Hendrix...but he finally wore me down...LOL..I won't get into the particulars but we have sex, drugs and vengeance. That's enough to keep you interested.

Good Episode
24 October 2018
There's a lot of "trash" talking about how much better Nettles is than Dudgeon. That's like comparing apples and oranges. No, the series hasn't declined because of the cast change. It's typical MM...good, fair and not so good episodes...just as in the Tom era. Neil Dudgeon is a different character completely, not a sub for another "Tom Baraby". I like him and Sarah and the cutie dog Sykes. People get off the Tom kick and embrace it for what it is...new actor..different character...different tone.

Enjoyable Episode
21 October 2018
I seem to have liked this episode more than most. I rated it 9/10 because I guessed the murderer rather early on. But it didn't ruin my enjoyment. I found the MI 6 aspect rather intriguing and found much to be amused about. The cricket game that Barnaby refereed was really funny and added to the banter between him and Jones. Anna Massey always adds extra stars for me. Benjamin Whitlow and Alice Krige add to a fine cast and Barnaby's "resigning" was a well played ploy. Loved the scene between Joyce and Tom where her Thank God for little murders comment was priceless.

Will Miss John Hopkins
16 October 2018
Just received my Midsomer Murders Series 20...so I have been bingewatching from Season 1. I'm writing this review for the episodes with Sgt. Scott. I adored him from day 1 and loved the prickly yet caring relationship. Since John Hopkins came on I personally enjoyed every episode even the ones which most reviewers didn't. Hopkins is a good actor who excels in the theater and I felt he put his own mark on the Barnaby sidekick. And may I just add this for some reviewers, even a so called "bad Midsomer" is better than most of the fare on American crap TV these days.
