Ford v Ferrari (2019)
Ford v Ferrari hits u with full speed and is miles ahead of most films this year
Must see racing movie. James Mangold brillant film making , amazing character performances from Bale and Damon ( Bale in particular, becomes Ken Miles, he is Ken Miles, it's astonishing how he does that every movie) , nerve wracking racing sequences , terrific sound track - sound editing & mixing...make this a wonderful movie about racing...and surprisingly what's more is the heft of human drama that actually hits u hard more than the racing itself....
Mangold has made the impossible, making a racing movie that will be cherished by motorheads and loved by the regular movie lovers as well...
Iam giving it 10 .
Photograph (2019)
Underrated gem... honest pure love story told thru socioeconomic prism and a wacky twist
A beautiful love story told with an honest approach...a tale so predictable and routine but with a treatment so unique...you are engrossed into the characters right away...It takes it's own sweet time to develop, but when it does, boy does it work so well...but it will split the audience right down the middle...some people will hate it right away, some will love it and disown it at the end and some will cherish it forever... in this day and age of instant gratification...the run for beginning and the end of something, we forget that sometimes the journey is more worthwhile than the destination....and that's the only way i could explain this movie ending....if we can call it that...
Silence speaks a lot in this film...and the background score is terrific too, so is the photography...it compliments the story so well .. terrific performances from the leads.... both Nawaz and Sanya, but she outshines in this one, a nice surprise....
This is a tale of two introverted souls, climbing gingerly out of their own lives silent sadness by a chance encounter that turns into love ...
The leads characters develop slowly as the film progresses ( like a photograph ) ....
except for the missed possible what wud have been a memorable campa cola scene for which i will never forgive ritesh batra in my life...
Movie has it's uneven tones of fantasy here and there but i willing to overlook that... because the made me smile amd care for the characters
K.G.F: Chapter 1 (2018)
Brutal...Badass...Brilliant filmaking
KGF Chapter 1...awesome movie
Excellent cinematography
Meticulous production design
Kickass BGM
Gem of dialogues...for a dubbed film (i saw it in telugu) the dialogues and the song lyrics were too good
Grandiose storytelling
Emotional connect is strong
Ends nicely setting up for chapter 2
King Arthur: Legend of the Sword (2017)
Turns the fantasy genre on its head...a quirky take on the tale of KING ARTHUR
I caught this movie quite late...so obviously i already heard of the reviews and how bad this was...but i never trust the reviews...every person has his perspective...
so here is mine:
What do you do to make a movie out of the KING ARTHUR tale which has been made so often?
Answer lies with Guy Ritchie...he turns the fantasy genre on its head..a welcome surprise...never compromising on his trademark...rapid editing..witty dialogue...parallel scenes with intervening dialogues...and the ambitious battle scenes....
Movie is anchored by awesome music track....a bold musical choice and it works...
BUT with a pre planned 5 sequels to this movie...this movie had pre sequilitis all over it...movie looked rushed in parts....with gaping story holes...unexplained narratives...this is what did the movie to turn into a failure.....
Must watch for GUY RITCHIE's fan......if this was a bad movie...i must say..this is the most fun i had watching a bad movie....
Though this movie doesn't deserve more than 7.5...iam giving it 9...to offset the horrible and undeserving reviews it got...
Take Shelter (2011)
Haunting masterpiece
Driven by exceptional performance from Michael Shannon and ably supported by Jessica Chastain....this is a psychological thriller but at its heart its a character study which is only possible because of the subtle direction of Jeff Nichols.
Its a slow burner...but by every minute that goes...we are still undecided regarding the sanity of the lead character...thats what keeps us hooked until the very end....and coming to the ending...boy..what an ending it is...the conclusion is satisfying for everyone...and one can look at it in two ways..sorry no spoilers...
Background score thats perfect elevates the movie further....
In my opinion, any movie that leaves you speechless during the movie...and makes you start thinking about it and discuss it after the credits roll...is a movie well made...and ultimately that is what we are after " A CONNECT" with the movie...
MUST WATCH...
Busanhaeng (2016)
A Zombie movie like no other.....
Train to busan looks the usual zombie flick...with a normal zombie movie plot line...where it scores is it makes us feel for the characters within no time...
Director keeps us guessing until the final minute of the film..which is no easy feat...
Underlying social commentary in the film adds to the story...zombies are not the scariest things in this movie...humans are more scarier basing on the decisions they make...
It has gripping screenplay...and all the usual zombie flick stuff like... near misses, blood and gore, stupid decisions characters take( i hate it when they do that)....
What is different is..zombies are super fast...(like world war z) No mention about the incident which made zombies( for a change, i liked it)
Above all its a film about a father and his daughter...
A zombie film with a surprising emotional connect....
Must watch....its not what you expect..itz better..
Te3n (2016)
A rare bollywood thriller...with terrific acting
First things first..didn't watch "Montage" korean film..on which this movie is based..and i don't want too either...let me explain why in one word..."Amitabh Bachhan"
Acting was brilliant...Amit ji, Nawazuddin and Vidya Balan were awesome to watch... (vidya had less screen time unfortunately)
Amitabh played a character who is devastated and sad...watching him..made me feel for the character.. made me feel sad too...it was acting at its finest
Nawazuddin plays a character who is disillusioned and keen to turn his life over...and is trying hard to but is lost anyway unless he finds redemption
Kolkata itself becomes a character thanks to good cinematography
For a thriller, screenplay lags a bit...but it never feels long...with emphasis on characters, mind boggling twists...clever reveals and an ending that is near perfect make this simple kidnap story...achieve a connect with the characters that is rare in this genre...
Background music and songs deal about pain..and complement well with movie
Must watch for Amitabh fans...A contemporary classic from director Ribhu Dasgupta
Looper (2012)
Our choices decide our past, present and future
The perfect time travel movie made....not an easy thing to accomplish...but Rian Johnson does it and it looks so good....powerful storytelling, stylish good old action and the visuals reminding of "Children of Men" is what makes this futuristic sci-fi , an excellent movie........and the HEART this movie has...makes it a GREAT movie.... Do watch it...you will be surprised....
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
Riveting war movie
Beautiful and brutal....Savage and tender.....the best war scenes filmed since "Saving Private Ryan"...Mel Gibson makes an engaging character study...and a stirring anti-war movie.... Based on a true story...which was nothing short of a miracle actually...the film shows...the casualties of war quite beautifully...and reminds us to stand by our beliefs no matter what....and that's what a world at war needs, men of belief.
Manchester by the Sea (2016)
Beautiful and tormenting...A Masterpiece
A masterpiece....achingly beautiful....wonderfully acted....Casey Affleck portrays the torment inside him in possibly the most understated performance i have seen...watch it...it will move you...its painful and tragic..coupled with anger and acceptance...and finally in the depths of loss and mourning we will be aware of the preciousness of things....the joy of spending time with your loved ones...
Rowdy Fellow (2014)
Absolute pleasure to watch...
"ROWDY FELLOW"...is not your routine Telugu flick....Nara Rohit's choice of scripts continues to be spot on and is showing variety....
Coming to movie...its got everything going for it...
Excellent performances from all...
Dialogues are an asset to this film..
BGM and music are good...
Comedy is a part of the story and not a separate track...and its refreshingly good....
Slow narration in the middle...and a needless love track are the only drawbacks...
A political drama...story is nothing new...but the treatment it gets..and the screenplay makes the film a fresh movie going experience...
An under-appreciated gem....DO WATCH IT
