The Creator (2023)
Good visuals, terrible, perplexing movie
Let's get this out of the way: the visuals are excellent, and the kid's acting is impressive. That about covers all the positive things about this movie.
On the flip side, the story is bland and predictable, the characters are flat and you find it impossible to relate to them or be emotionally invested.
The plot has more holes than Swiss cheese. The nuclear detonation that killed 1 million people, the whole reason for this movie, is glanced over hastily like it's nothing and the Americans are seen as cruel and unreasonable ... in an American movie nonetheless. Has American self-loathing gone so far, or is it more to this?
In every era the Hollywood movies had a political substrate - in the 70s and 80s the Americans were the heroes while the communists were the stereotypical black and white villains, in the 90s and the 00s the Arabs took their place as the regular bad guys, hell, even in the 40s, Looney Tunes was a conduit for anti-German propaganda.
Meanwhile, The Creator paints artificial intelligence in a positive light (yes, the same AI that a lot of people fear will leave them jobless in the not so distant future), while painting the stereotypical Asians as hard working, reasonable and oppressed by the bad Americans (again, in an American movie). This leaves me puzzled as to what the message behind this film is and what is the motivation behind it.
Melancholia (2011)
Unwatchable because of physics inaccuracies
If you care anything about physics the movie is unwatchable. A huge planet getting so close to the Earth would have catastrophic effects well before hitting - earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic activity etc. People wouldn't be around to watch the planet hit. You can't ignore basic laws of physics just because you want to tell a story. I understand that it's make-belief, but you still need a foundation to your story. In this case it's so low effort that it's insulting to the viewer's intelligence.
As for the story, I find it boring and pretentious at best. I can't imagine watching this in a movie theater, where you can't skip ahead.
Kyra Kyralina (2014)
This movie shouldn't exist
Watching this movie is pure torture. It has very little to do with the book, sometimes it's just nonsensical, things don't add up and the actors with very few exceptions play very badly. The music is okish, but very repetitive. Overall it seems that they ran out of money and talent halfway through the movie.
Climax (2018)
Saying it was horrible is an understatement
It's very hard to put into words how bad this movie is. Nothing interesting really happens, almost half of the movie is filled with seemingly endless dance scenes (some dancing is ok, while some is just random movements like the dancers are having a seizure).
The other half of the movie is just disorienting camera work, culminating with the picture being upside down, while the screen is red and blinking. For 15 minutes straight. I almost threw up.
Overall, this movie is just a pretentious attempt at making an art movie, but really it's just a waste of time and money. I found it insulting that someone would create such a monstrosity and expect other people to waste their time to see it.
