Reminiscence (2021)
Masterpiece
Don't get fooled by the box office. This movie is some sci-fi thriller of top quality and killer plot. Yes, it's adult, melancholic, dark, uneasy, no campy superheroes going around, no lovable characters, just old-fashioned good cinema for the thinking folk, and the pun intended of "not memorable" that some pretend to label upon it only makes it worthier.
Alien Trespass (2009)
Pointless tribute
Oh, yes, we all catch the joke, so what! Sci-fi movies from the fifties filled our young years and we don't mind watching them again from time to time. A tribute could never be out of place, then, unless somebody decides to make a tribute just for the sake of it. The absolute stupidity of this film is based on the belief that you actually can transform a standard script of a fifties sci-fi B-movie in a frozen modern film and let the irony do the talking by itself. Like a digital watch on a caveman's wrist. All the impact is laid upon mimicking the whole set of big all clichés in antics and acting so we can bask in how ahead of those times we are now and how we lost our innocence to technology and advanced digital FX. Well, the results are lame, to say the least. Just a boring ninety minutes movie, so bad in argument and character that it would have us switching channels in our black and white TV even back when we were kids. Again... to the producers and the director: we all catch the joke, now please tell us something we don't know.
Grease (1978)
Probably the worst movie ever
Talking about movies without an argument, talking about nonsensical musical extravaganza, talking about glorification of frivolity, talking... Well, let the images do the talking. I just didn't catch the movie way back in the seventies and kept away from it in the eighties and nineties, but heck, you certainly run out of luck one day and you come to see this... (fill in your favorite gut revolver). As some popular character said, "we were idiots back in the fifties", and it would be great for the movie to point it out; problem is that it celebrates the whole idiocy of the times, making satire only to the clichés and actually selling the real misery of social uses and customs as nostalgic empathy. The whole macho pose on which the supposed conflict is based finally rears its ugly head in all its disgrace and there is dance and joy everywhere to enthrone it. As entertainment it also lacks punch and, of course, intelligence, for the purpose seems to be an exhibition of pseudo-romantic gags and ill-conceived phoney humour. On the other hand, the movie is excruciatingly dull even skipping the sung parts. Not difficult to categorize with an adjective or two, but from my personal point of view, the ideal film to watch while you write the note to the judge and proceed to hang yourself.
Casino Royale (1967)
Absolutely brilliant!!!!!!!
This movie is ideal for testing your humour level. I have problems understanding people who actually don't get it. Definitely not a spy movie, more like a satire, a parody, a comedy firework that treads on every Flemming cliché to make the biggest, funniest, craziest James Bond movie ever. Plus, intellectually it sweeps off the whole Bond bunch, giving not only an accurate of the sixties fetishes but the cold war taboos and clichés. Don't get me wrong, I've watched every Bond movie, loved many of them (featuring Connery, Brosnan or Moore, the others just suck), and enjoyed the cynical humour approach. But this is nothing of the sort, this is just a gigantic party with all the excesses and psychedelic stereotypes of the sixties thrown together in. Pure magic from beginning to end. C'mon! If you just don't get it, call 911!, though you are probably dead already and you just didn't notice.
