Stargate (1994)
Kurt Russel goes to Egypt. The End.
The first ten minutes are somewhat interesting. Then it all goes to sh*t. Hardly sci-fi. It's just a boring Kurt Russel running around in Egypt doing the only bit of acting he knows: shooting things up with a rifle. Prepare for a lot of desert.... a lot of HUMANS (not aliens).. boring characters... and one of the worst villains in film history. Jesus F. Christ this film was crap. Don't waste your time. Especially if you're looking for sci-fi, then you will be mighty disappointed. Can't believe I watched it the whole way through because it's so goddamn NON-exciting that halfway through I was begging for a deck of cards.

Du zhan (2012)
A nicely made, but not very enjoyable film
I can appreciate the work that went into making Drug War, the action scenes are well-directed and it has a likable cast, but what it boils down to, is that it just isn't fun to watch. I was checking how long I had left of the film every 25 minute or so, and that's not a good sign. I'm not asking for mindless action and shoot-outs, I just don't think the story was exciting enough to keep me interested for the films almost 2 hour long running time.
If you absolutely love thrillers from Hong Kong and don't mind a somewhat slow pace, then maybe this film will appeal to you. Director Johnnie To has made some really great films in the past, such as the Election-films and Mad Detective.

Evangelion Shin Gekijôban: Jo (2007)
A visual mecha-heaven with a frustrating main character.
Evangelion 1.0 shows some of the best animated sequences I've ever seen, and delivers some incredible action. Too bad the main character, Shinji, NEVER stops whining about this and that, and just overall is strangely indifferent to all the crazy sh*t that happening.
- Hey Shinji! I know we just met but you're mankind's only hope! - Oh, okay.. - Don't you at least wanna know what's going on, Shinji??? - Nah, I don't know...
Jesus. Without the insanely action scenes and the great animation, I would probably have a hard time recommending this.

Anata e (2012)
Dearest - A rich journey through Japan
Recently widowed Eiji receives a letter from his late wife, Yoko, asking him to take her ashes back to her hometown. Wondering why she had never mentioned this to him in person, he embarks on a road trip in order to fulfill her wishes, meeting people along the way who shed light on her past. All the while Eiji is impelled by the promise of a second letter, which he can only claim once his task is completed.
Dearest, a compelling and melancholy drama, is targeting your tear canals. Many times during the film viewers is treated to some really gorgeous cinematography and nice melodies, which only make this journey a bit harder. A couple of interesting characters helps making Eiji's trip a more exciting one, including a cameo by director and actor Takeshi Kitano.
